In regards to the use of Out-Dated technologies in modern applications from corporations or organizations that obviously have money to spare.. I recently just got out of the US military and in my experience there with ballistic missile systems (anything electronic related really), older technology is preferred over the use of newer technology due to its survivability and versatility. While older technology does have its faults, it his highly repairable and customizable where-in new technology excels at being reliable but almost always requires special equipment to repair it. Equipment that in a situation where time is crucial or specialized supplies are unavailable (war-zone, extremely remote locations, post-appocalyptica), would prevent the strategic mission from being able to be completed or conducted in the first place. On the money front; Just because the technology is older, does not necessarily mean it isn't expensive. Without disclosing too much, I will say that the circuit boards i've used for repairs are egregiously expensive. This is because while the technology it self is dated, the world has moved on. So have the manufacturing techniques and the companies that manufactured older "technology". To have a modern company manufacture new circuitry that is 50 years old requires a bid (which will certainly cost more than the initial estimate) to reverse engineer the manufacturing process, have the machines.. well.. machined, and begin the manufacturing from the ground up. I think Cobalt wants to learn how and why the survivors (and rest of the life on the island) keep coming back to life for their own agenda in the overall. I don't think they would share this knowledge with the rest of the world should they find out how this works. Being this close to understanding this they keep sending equipment & men to stabilize the situation on the island that has almost gotten out of hand. But being low on funds they cannot send an army since Cobalt can't purchase one OR they can but would make too much of a ruckus and the west would realize that something serious is going on there and would end Cobalt as a whole. Either way, the west still doesn't know that immortality has been achieved, otherwise we would see thousands of troops invade the island, killing us enough times till they capture us and end our insanity of murdering each other for "AKs" and similar. I also think that bandits really were bandits but realized at some point that killing makes no sense since everyone keeps coming back to "REEE" at them so they just locked a zone where people can have fun, and ofcourse where they make a clean profit most of the time, thus remained named "Bandit camp" to us yet we know that they don't shoot on sight (any more).

My explanation on the bandits and the reason for the ship having radiation upon leaving would be this. If you die on the island and are brought back to life, you are stuck there (explains hapis as well) the bandits were maybe the original crew who were there when the bomb dropped, they died, came back. If they tried to leave via the next cargo ship, they would find out that something went wrong. The radiation binded to them and is what in reality is keeping them alive. The areas of the island that give us rads, are actually clean. So when leaving the influence of the island they get poisoned by the non radiated air. So if they couldn't leave the island, they quit cobalt and chose the life of the bandit.
I think the outdated equipments has to do with government founding. The government supplying cobalt with old unused gear and equipment because they are not in use anymore because there has been upgrades to them. A good example of this is in the vietnam war where the soviet union and america founded the vietnamese(north and south) with older weapons that were not in use because they were not as technological advanced as their new weapons.
I wonder if they'll give the option to "join" a group later (like, respawn in that group's safezone, get a few bonus items on respawn) but it will make the other group hostile towards you? Maybe also how many people pick a side effects how the story evolves... But that's just an idea based on what Shadowfrax has fleshed out.
I would love if Rust was like that because now clans dominate anyways. If everyone needed to pick a side on example: "Cobalt, Bandits or the Western armies" it would make all solos now friendly with clans that play on their faction! I think the bandits are native Angolans. It could be possible that before Cobalt established itself on the island, it was home to an Angolan colony, which would explain the gold dredge and ramshackle housing surrounding it. It would make no sense for members of Cobalt’s colony to live in these houses, as they’re of a much lower quality compared to Cobalt’s usual housing of utilitarian apartments and tenements. Therefore it’s a possibility that the residents of the Bandit Camp, Fishing Village and Ranch are either indigenous Angolans who managed to stay under the radar during Cobalt’s rise and downfall, or opportunists who sailed from the mainland.

Spot on analysis Frax, couldn't find a hole in your theories. As to the electricity across the island... Geothermal would make sense being underground, but wouldn't explain the island climates. Nuclear is another good hypothesis, but again same issue. As far as I can tell Rust hasn't dabbled in the world of scifi/futurism, but some form of electromagnetism is the only theory I can postulate to answer those two questions. Keep up the good work man!
What if cobalt funds all the research with the two oio rigs and that is why the oil rigs are that heavily protected! And if they notice someone is on there, they send heavy armed scientists to defend the oil rig
Toxikz Although this is an interesting theory, I believe that his workers (who would be scientists, engineers and for the most part intellectual individuals) would be able to create better weaponry, armour and buildings.
@@IRTG2006 Well since the areas where the scientist worked are radiated, I doubt that they could get ahold of the proper materials, so they scrounged up everything they could and made the bandit camp.
One possibility for the "cloning chambers" aboard the cargo ship is to house survivors to run additional tests on them, like getting blood and tissue samples, rather than for cloning people. Though there original purpose may have been cloning, they could have been re-pursued for the use stated above.
I like the 'survival of human race" angle. I think more likely the scientists use old equipment because they don't want the prisoners to have an easy time getting too much high grade military hardware
this is such a well thought out comprehensive analysis on the islands probable backstory, that IF its not actually written yet, i hope the game designers watch and use your video(s) as a solid foundation for it... and openly give you credit.
they need to add a function like when the server wipes there's a nuke event which the players must try and stop the nuke from blowing the island with a lot of pvp and pve as a nice ending to the wipe.
I've stopped playing Rust a while ago, but I stay subscribed to you for your deliciously presented videos. You are a master story teller and a presenter of impeccable stature. Thank you for keeping us entertained, informed and most of all, enlightened.
I cant even play rust anymore but i still love this videos. the amount of time and effort that go into these must be immense and it shows... Great job my dude. p.s. unfortunately, I dont like pies all that much, but you deserve one for this for sure
the electricity thing is probably generators because in the bandit camp there is a new update and they have a windmill and a couple of generators in the casino. And the players also have to make electricity.
I had thought the bandits might just represent the fact that you never spawn as the first clone. The bandits are clones that have been around longer than you and just represent your final, inevitable end. Surviving as best you can whilst being watched, no escape and do the best you can. They gamble, they drink. They are making the best of a bad situation.

I an kinda crying right now! I remember watching my first rust video and watching this game is like watching my child grow up, from legacy to now!
i love you from turkey ShadowFRAX!
Back at ya from the UK!
This really butters my pie
Have a strong feeling these lore videos are inspiring facepunches narrative and recent releases.
That oil rig is an EXACT replica of that picture like what
Almost....
i love how rust isnt lore driven what so ever but has an interesting unofficial backstory from what we have gathered.
What if cobalt funds all the research with the two oio rigs and that is why the oil rigs are that heavily protected! And if they notice someone is on there, they send heavy armed scientists to defend the oil rig
Alot of good points in this vid shadow. Well done friend

Maybe Dr. Newman didn't evacuate his workers. Maybe the bandit camp people are Dr. Newman's workers that established the camp.
Gotta give us a 2023 version bro I love this stuff , but can you explain what zenlabs revolving around cargo
I WAS WAITIN ALL DAY AND NIGHT
Have some pie for your dedication.
thx shadowfrax. i always wait for your updates on rust
One possibility for the "cloning chambers" aboard the cargo ship is to house survivors to run additional tests on them, like getting blood and tissue samples, rather than for cloning people.
Though there original purpose may have been cloning, they could have been re-pursued for the use stated above.
Nah fam were all hear just for Helk to take pictures of our peters using a giant camera in the sky.
OMG I THINK YOU CRACKED IT XD
IM ROLLING ON THE FLOORXD 🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤜🏿🤜🏿
They should use your theory with some crazy twists that you may have overlooked were possible. Could be great. Awesome video! Well done.
I like the 'survival of human race" angle.
I think more likely the scientists use old equipment because they don't want the prisoners to have an easy time getting too much high grade military hardware
I was waiting for this beautiful video!
They should have a event where the scientist raid bandit camp idk or add bandits that run around and are friendly unless shot at or see a scientist.
Now that I would like to see.
this is such a well thought out comprehensive analysis on the islands probable backstory, that IF its not actually written yet, i hope the game designers watch and use your video(s) as a solid foundation for it... and openly give you credit.
they need to add a function like when the server wipes there's a nuke event which the players must try and stop the nuke from blowing the island with a lot of pvp and pve as a nice ending to the wipe.
THIS I am in favour of.. in fact I discussed it in a CONCEPT LIMBO episode a while back
I've stopped playing Rust a while ago, but I stay subscribed to you for your deliciously presented videos. You are a master story teller and a presenter of impeccable stature. Thank you for keeping us entertained, informed and most of all, enlightened.
We need a 2023 edition!
Most awaited video of 2019
Anyone else wonder what facepunch has planned for 5/10/24?
Well, we will find out tomorrow.
thanks for the video shadowfrax! I was really happy when I got the pop notification.
but why can we not hack the ships route and crash it into our enemies boat house?
i was hoping more on mil tuns
There's not really much else I can say on the tunnels, although I did cover them more in the first vid
I cant even play rust anymore but i still love this videos. the amount of time and effort that go into these must be immense and it shows... Great job my dude.
p.s. unfortunately, I dont like pies all that much, but you deserve one for this for sure
Ive literally never seen that cargo ship with helicopters and bradley
It's 2021! I'm so excited to hear about your new ideas of the Rust lore :D
so rust started 3 days ago
i would really love to see rust post an actual back story. but these are entertaining. keep up the great work shadowfrax!
we need new story update bro
the electricity thing is probably generators because in the bandit camp there is a new update and they have a windmill and a couple of generators in the casino. And the players also have to make electricity.
Yes, the bandits have a wind turbine, but there is a pre-existing grid which is still getting power from somewhere.
Other than just being a game thing why is there always loot at the top of things like launch site? Not like anyone’s going up there to restock
The island is set up to test the survivors, the loot and airdrops are to facilitate this
SHADOWFRAX ahhhhhh thank you
I had thought the bandits might just represent the fact that you never spawn as the first clone. The bandits are clones that have been around longer than you and just represent your final, inevitable end. Surviving as best you can whilst being watched, no escape and do the best you can. They gamble, they drink. They are making the best of a bad situation.
THAANK YOUFOR THIS VIDEOOOO IHAVE BEEN WHAITING SO LOONF🛵😀😀😀😀😀 Looove you and your videos
You're just cannon bro. You say it, it makes sense and they add it. Love this stuff, sounds really good to me.
I turned my ad blocker off and refreshed the page and there was still no ads...
They are not guaranteed every time
The moment Facepunch has the full story done, they should ask you to make the official 'Story behind Rust' video
I'm on standby
What software do you use to record your screen
Shadowplay
@@SHADOWFRAX thank you man is it free or does it cost money and where do I download that sorry if I am bothering you and got any tips for someone who wants to start a gaming channel?
Adil Char it’s free
@@7ashby690 thanks man appreciated
I can’t play Rust so i really like to watch gameplays etc. Especially this video which you spend a lot of time and made me learn more about the game! Keep it up! 😁
No problem chap, hope you enjoyed.
if like the whole gameplays and not just 5min before raiding start look up TheTurboBeef on twitch he screams like 50+ hours a week + he has a normal job too so he works and plays rust
cool cool but where is the new lore film its 2022!
It’s been exactly 4 years today since the last lore😢
If Tesla and SpaceX existed in the Cold War... Maybe Doctor Neumann is Musk's father.. Musk was born in 1971..
Now there's a thought...
@@SHADOWFRAX musk is South African. Coincidence? I think not.
