  • In this video, I cover all the steps I followed to bring the paint on my 1981 C3 Corvette back to life.
It was a ton of work, and I loved every minute as it can be a gratifying experience.
And even though I am just a DIYer and not a professional car detailer, I am quite happy and proud of the fruits of my labor.
My Vette looks amazing and will only improve going forward with a regular detailing schedule.
You don't need to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars having pro detailers do this for you.
I accomplished everything with a Bauer orbital polisher I purchased at the local HFT, and using products I already had in the garage.
If you do not have car detailing products and tools, I have included a list of products I used and suggested for your consideration.
Lastly, I sincerely hope my video will inspire you to make your car shine again.
All the best and thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻

I just bought an '81 like this one with black leather interior. Mine is a driver as well and I love it. I'm right down the road in Lakeland. Thanks for sharing.

My understanding is, that the Clay bar should be folded every time it fetched some dirt in Order to Prevent scratches. However as it seems you managed this with one bar using it in total the whole time. I am no expert, only saw that.

Looks great Luis !! I have owned a fiberglass boat and my corvette’s for years and use the same method .. however I use Collnite marine cleaner and than the top wax .. if this wax can hold up to salt water it surely can hold up on our cars .. my results are a amazing mirror like shine and last for about 2 yrs at least . Maybe someday give it a try 👍

If I sold it today as is, the price is $17K. I have a list of things it needs, so the more I do the price goes up accordingly. 😊👍🏻

How much would you sell your corvette, if you decide to sell.

I want to replace the trailing arm bushings and maybe the shock absorbers. The exhaust system also needs attention.
If I sold it today as is, the price is $17K. If I replace the trailing arm bushings, shock absorbers, and exhaust system, plus four new tires, then it will be close to $20K. 😊👍🏻

What I think is - you are putting a lot of work into a car you may not keep. If I put that much sweat into a car I'd have a hard time selling it. You won't get the value back out of it. Good luck either way. Looks really nice. BTW, I presently have a C5 coupe and what I don't like about the C5's and newer are there are too many things you cannot fix and then there are things your dealership cannot fix either. Example is the EBCM (electronic brake control module) They go bad and there are no new ones being made and if you buy another one it may not be any better than the one you have (4k later you find this out) BECAUSE it's just as old as the one you pulled out of your car. No thanks. So, I'm thinking of going the other direction and buying a C3 instead. At least I can work on it (mostly) and it has no computer or UNfixable problems. Yea, I know, the newer ones are way better cars (in theory) but the frustrations I have with my (very nice) C5 are mounting. I'm no master mechanic but I can do basic stuff. Anyway, appreciate your channel very much.

Thank you so much for commenting.
Yes, I tend to overdo things a bit, but you have to consider I also create videos out of the whole process, so in order to show and/or explain things properly, a lot of work is part of that equation.
On the other hand, I enjoy a good challenge and I am a firm believer that most old original parts are vastly superior than their aftermarket counterparts, so I am really good at finding ways to go down those rabbit holes while attempting to repair OEM parts with-oftentimes-mixed results.
Eventually, my cars, old parts, tools, etc., will go to new homes and I’m ok with that, because I’ve enjoyed my journey. Well, most of it, anyway. Lol 😆
I’m self-taught when it comes to mechanical work, and got started by restoring a couple old motorcycles back in the mid/late 80s. I was really proud of them but had to sell my Norton 850 Commando and my Triumph Tiger 650 because I was always broke. The same applies to many cars and trucks.
But the consolation (if it can be called that), is that I left a few things in better shape than I found them in, and that is rewarding and valuable in itself.
      Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
