Phil - Your research is impeccable - and makes me feel like ive been on the right track to think there really is WAY MORE to Watchtower than anyone knows!
Yay! A Phil video! Hi Phil! FYI: Over the last 2 years I've been pruning ex-jw channels for my mental health. I just don't need them as much now that my family is out, and if they support someone who supported a misogynistic little jerk for years they got cut. One example of pruning. HOWEVER, your channel is GOLD. I need to get notifications now. Never did that with another channel.
If they really wanted an unbiased study, they could have hired an outside firm to do it and made an announcement at the meetings that it was okay for witnesses to participate in the study
Thank you for your careful, gentle, logical and calm delivery. I find your posts reassuring, they keep me steady in my determination to have a mind of my own. This obviously takes a lot of hard work on your part, and is very much appreciated.
Anecdotal, but hey. Born '83, both parents second generation JWs, I was a quiet kid, dad, an alcoholic ex elder, used to hit me a lot when younger. As a teenager, the mere threat of violence was enough to get me in line. I've never baptized. Later, once I could, I stopped attending meetings completely and was soft shunned by all my peers (bad association, for no real reason). Luckily my mother never minded me being "worldly", but who knows what'd happened if I baptized and THEN left. The relationship with my father never really recovered.
Thanks for this research and your report. Just a note, and I've never heard anyone mention it, regarding corporal punishment. In the Australian Royal Commission into CSA, Governing Body member Jackson, under oath, testified that the organisation doesn't condone or agree with physical punishment. This was a surprise to me, as during my childhood, the rod of discipline scripture was read out to me and my siblings before such treatment was meted out many times per week, especially after meetings.
I got the willow when I was growing up. I had to go to the bush and collect it myself! 😆 But I gotta be honest…I deserved it every time! I was raised JW but my folks have been nothing but fair. Maybe your dad was just an asshole?
Some JWs get it wrong. It might not hurt to find out what the rod of discipline means in God's word the bible before using your experience to make it sound like JWs beat their children. There may be times when physical punishment is required but JWs always should discipline their children based on love.
@@ReinoFlinkmanThe fact that you still think you deserved physical punishment is troubling. Might makes right does it? If you don’t do something I have decided I want or think you should do beating you is the best way to make you comply? This isn’t a tap on the back of the hand to stop a very small child sticking something into an electrical socket we are talking about since you had the ability to select and obtain the device to be used upon you so you could obviously comprehend language well enough to be reasoned with. Why is resorting to violence better than explaining why you shouldn’t do something? That’s assuming your parents could actually construct a reasonable argument as to why you should do something and not just say, as is far too common in cases where punishment was/is used, because I say so (under which a religious authority figure or book would also fall).
The amount of work you do for all your videos are appreciated man. I think I might get most excited about these over any other exjw channel. Informative about the cult I grew up in while also honestly being relaxing to listen and learn from. Thank you!

Content related to ‘physical encouragement’ does remind me of the time period - as suggested by the survey (80s and 90s) when JW parents were clearly encouraged to offer up a whooping if kids didn’t behave - spare the rod and spoilt the child was God’s position on raising well-adjusted children. They used to quote Benjamin Spock and others who promoted a more permissive approach with the obvious decline of society (the normal 1 Timothy societal breakdown). So, while I think it’s reasonable that Witnesses would reduce less corporal punishment, I think the bigger issue is that they’re following society trends rather than the other way around. God’s ‘rod’ seems to have found less favour with the witnesses which, being divine wisdom, it shouldn’t and there should be clear evidence that a paddling results in more well-adjusted children; something I don’t believe the evidence supports.
Yeah you're right. Spock's advice was really frowned upon by JWs. I'd forgotten about him! Spanking only went out of favour in New Zealand when the government introduced anti-smacking legislation, making it illegal. Until then kids were shuffled outside, or pulled by the ear, to the kingdom hall carpark and given a right old wollopping. Often parents would place their hand over the childs mouth to muffle their yelps and cries . I noticed that the watchtower began to interpret the "rod of discipline " as "instruction"..as in verbal instruction, rather than physical. So the org really does just yield to societal trends. ..on most things except really critical things like reporting CSA and on shunning.
The data is skewed bc of the participant data participation and the fact that their leadership pushed it on a local level. Even looking from the outside, non-Japanese congregations were barred. These would inherently likely have separate information sources that would disrupt the unity facade
I happen to know Joleen I’m not sure if I’m spelling is correct but I’ve known her since the 80s in my hometown in NY and at Brooklyn,is the live stream available that’s she’s on and if so where I would like to watch it thanks
For a “neutral” religion that’s no part of the world, they sure are apart of the world. Lol One thing about the religion, from its defense of their NWT, practices, etc. they will find bias confirmation, no matter the source. Only if the brothers & sisters knew the extent of their donations were being used
It indeed is. When I went to Japan, I was surprised, it seemed most "Christians" were Johova's witnesses. Unfortunate to say the least. I think Japan is starving for Christianity but Evangelicals are more afraid to witness than the JWs, I think if Evangelicals were more fearless in going out there, they'd have at least the number of converts of the JWs if not more. But it's really hard in Japan because you get shamed so hard for disturbing the peace, which preaching religion generally is considered to be there.
A JW that’s a professor or chemistry and biology. That’s unusual and it sounds quite unusual for someone to be a professor in two fields at the same time. Unless, of course this person is a biochemist, studied chemical biology or another field related to the interface between both subjects. Also what kind of study sets out the intended results or outcomes of the study before the study has even begun? They say it’s to counteract negative reports and the effects they have on governments and not to see if reporting is biased or accurate in the first place or if government treatment has been influenced (and how). That’s not a study that’s more like propaganda or a publicity piece.
The fact that they exclude inactive JWs is just mind-boggling. The data are useless. Inactive people are more likely to be those harmed, but they're still JWs and affected by the JW religion. The fact that JWs define their membership multiple different ways is irrelevant. (Only active publishers counted on annual report, but also getting baptized is what makes you an official JW means you can be "not a JW," as an unbaptized publisher on annual report and still a JW, but not on the report if you take a 6 month vacation from field service).
Freemasons ~the old guard that bought their way in, promote their kids and 'brethren' ~kind of like the cowbird. Eventually they hold all the key positions ~they've done it to most major religions, turning them into their own cash cow and daughters of Babylon. Their game is soon coming to an end.
I got a few whippings when i was a kid it didnt kill me. Im old school from a different generation. They would beat your tail in school then you would get another one at home. But it was rare, there are more effective ways to train a child most of the time. I would like to see a survey of witnesses from an unbiased source though, but that will never happen, witnesses wouldnt fill it out more than likely. The CSA cases are a different story. My problem with that lies with the fact that the organization doesn't openly admit there is a problem and they aren't teaching parents and children to be watchful and wary of it. And even if they dont kick someone out for an accusation, (because of the two pary rule) the authorities should be called to investigate. Ive personaly known of 6 cases of csa within the ranks of JWs. I was born in. Now out.

Hi, I’m wondering, were you born into the JWs or did you enter as an adult? Thx.
@@ANCIENTWARRI0R i grew up around lots of religious people i spent years reading, researching, listening the best the world has to offer as too religious books iv have visited to many places of worship to list,i have interviewed thousands of peeps as too thier beliefs, i love and respect all peeps i got baptized in 1993,, since then there have been ,people in the organization that have hurt me, but im not at the hall serving men,,I understand some peeps who have very strong very feelings as to thier experience with jws but its what i call the 5 percent. But 95 percent of the people in the jws for me have been wonderfull I've always tried to focus on the positive things about people and their religion they teach us in the Kingdom Hall don't go around with a critical I talking down to people etc etc I know what I hear in the Kingdom Hall and then Kingdom Hall we are taught to conquer evil with good don't be haters now we have our religious point of view we have a religious doctrines I respect those of other people and I expect people to expect people to respect mine I'm going to tell you something that I noticed that before I became a JW before I became a JW I noticed there was a whole lot of people out there telling half stories and lying I did my research I did my research and I became a JW a slave of Jehovah because of I convinced myself that Jehovah is a real God and that his holy spirit is helping people in his organization I need all kinds of people I interview all kinds of people I preached to a lot of people and I'm going to tell you something I go where the holy spirit is I go where the where the action where the facts are where the results are where what people do matters not what they say do Publications by the society insight to the scriptures are absolutely wonderful wonderful and wonderful I know it and you know it you can't deny that no matter where you going to world all organizations are going to have defects etcetera etcetera Jehovah's organization is the best imperfect organization in the world as to spiritual matters 1000 horses can't drag me away from the JW's we are being disciplined by Jehovah God's discipline is extremely important there's a Bible text that says he that God loves he scourges the definition of the word scourges is a very bad spanking or a very hard spanking the Reason God scourges someone before he brings them in as a son is because he has to remove the world that is in him the worldly attitudes I appreciate you asking me the question respectfully if you talk to me respectfully I will talk to you respectfully

Well... hellooooooooo, Phil 🎉🇯🇵
Don't know how you can read anything into this study.
As it is totally biased
Female JWs in Japan 71% Woww!! What !! That's crazy
Oh neat, this is the link if youtube lets it post. ruclips.net/video/qbOeDfQRCQA/видео.htmlsi=oAuDhh0PxZrzb63j
For a “neutral” religion that’s no part of the world, they sure are apart of the world. Lol
One thing about the religion, from its defense of their NWT, practices, etc. they will find bias confirmation, no matter the source. Only if the brothers & sisters knew the extent of their donations were being used
Thanks I told a couple of others that know her
Thanks!
Thanks mate!
@@theblueenvelope my pleasure. Keep up the good work :)
Any court room that this comes up in needs to be dismissed sighting the accolades of those involved like you did. Clear conflict of interest
Thank you for helping us understand these things! Youre a great investigator and helping all ex jws.
This org is worldwide as they say, why only provide Japan report😅
Not the book of Ezekiel being discussed verse by verse🤣🤣 50:28
Hello do you know why they use the colour BLUE on the JW sign ☘️
I don't, but I would like to know 🤷🏻♀️
I assumed they were emulating the Whitehouse website logo, which is WH.Gov; white font on a blue square.
Blue and white are the colours of peace.
Hence, the UN flag.
Watching paint dry is much more interesting than viewing this video.
Then maybe you should get out the paint brush.
Ever thought of a collaboration with Barbara Anderson?
Was the study anonymous?
According to the report, yes it was
@@theblueenvelopeINTERESTING!!
Who the heck is REALLY running the show! 🤔 💭
Now out.
Where is Tony?
You don't need to be baptised to get shunned. They also do it to abuse victims if they dont stay quiet and fall back in line
It took you half an hour to get to the contents.
Truly, your powers of observation are breathtaking. Where did you learn such abilities?
Treat others with kindness like a mosquito treat itself to a sample of your blood while leaving behind a gift of a parasite
Why does WT use someone with a master's degree (Chu) ?? They frown upon their people going to university. Double standards is frowned upon by God.
They may have already had the degree prior to becoming a JW.
@@katrinamcintosh3565 so what !? WT attitude stinks, full of jealousy and hypocrisy. They want to say when it's right to have an education and when it's not. But it's not their business. They sin greatly by meddling.

Your use of "apologist" for these certain academics is incorrect.
