Have you ever wondered why “right away” in Chinese is 马上 (horse on) and not any other animals like 骆驼 (camel) or 驴子 (donkey)? Well, the origin of the term 马上 can be traced back to ancient Chinese culture and history. From this video, you will also learn the difference between 立刻 and 马上.
Where I live, "on your horse" is rarely used. Because it could be confused with a more common similar expression which has a very different meaning. "On your high horse" means to be arrogant and talk down to others. For example : "Don't get on your high horse and tell me my work is worthless!" … My computer translates "get on one's high horse" as 居高临下.
@@mountaintag Yes, on your high horse means behaving in an arrogant and superior fashion. Hold your horses! means stop and think about it. There must be others….
@@celiad6012 With all the Chinese learning resources offered online, I should be fluent by now. Just goes to show that "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink". 🙂
Mandarin is not dialect of Mongolian. There’s bye bye in Chinese, is Chinese a dialect of English? There’s fiancé in English, is English a dialect of French?

馬上 is not a native Chinese word, it's borrowed from Mongolian, like most of the Mandarin vocabulary and grammar, witch is a dialect of Mongolian.
