    This is such a great story, full of good language points. … At 3:45 we have 亲身父母. I think this means something like "personal parents", so I guess it's okay. But my computer says this should be 亲生父母 ("biological parents").

    请你帮我送她回家 Although 帮我 literally means "help me", it usually cannot be translated that way, because "help me" means that I am doing it and you are assisting me. But 帮我 usually means that only you are doing it, so this is the same as 替我 and we would say "for me". Or we could say "help me out by (doing something for me)". So, the above sentence could be : "Please help me out by taking her home" In this context, we don't actually need help, so we would more naturally say : "Please be good enough to take her home for me"

    你做的菜可好吃了 = "is your cooking ever good" This kind of 可 can usually be expressed as "ever" in a rhetorical question. 这双鞋子可贵了 = "are these shoes ever expensive"

      Are these shoes ever expensive is more like 这鞋子有那么贵吗?is yr cooking ever good? 你做的菜有那么好吃吗?

    • @mountaintag
      @mountaintag 12 дней назад

      @@learnmandarinin5minutes "Are these shoes ever expensive" is not a question, although it uses a question's word order. We would not use "ever" in a question. If we wanted to ask a question, we would use "so" or "that" instead of "ever". "Are these shoes so/that expensive?"

    For 整数一百美金 we would say "an even one hundred dollars" or "a round one hundred dollars". This means that fractional or small parts have been ignored. We would not say "exactly one hundred dollars" because we are not talking about precision.

    I thought that 找人 meant to physically look for somebody. In that case, "contact" is not good in English, because "contact" means by phone or by e-mail. So 随时来找我 should be "Come and see me anytime". (This is very common, especially in an office setting.) Similarly, 随时来找我 should be "If you have any issues, come and see me". (This also is very common in an office setting.)

    This is a great expression to learn, and it certainly does mean "suffer in silence". However, "suffer in silence" is a somewhat literary form, rarely used in everyday spoken language. We are more likely to say "take it lying down", and this is very common. We could also say "grin and bear it". Or "turn the other cheek". This is a biblical expression, where Jesus advises people not to hit back when slapped, but to "turn the other cheek". Its use is quite common. … I also appreciated learning : 别把责任推到妹妹身上 = "Don't shift the blame onto your sister"

    When learning Chinese, one of the challenges language learners face is differentiating similar-sounding words with distinct meanings and usages. In this video, we will explore how the three Chinese terms 到达 (dàodá), 抵达 (dǐ dá), and 达到 (dádào) should be used. Although they all include the character 达, which conveys a sense of 'reaching' or 'arriving,' they differ in context and application.
