Glad to see you have the satisfaction of the unhaul. It’s feels so good to do a great clean on the TBR and update yourself to the current reader that you are. Yes, I love Pride and Prejudice - no issues with you not feeling the same way 🙂.
Unhauling books always always makes me feel so much lighter too! I'm happier keeping my shelves to books I've really enjoyed and ones I'm genuinely still interested in reading. I absolutely loved the host too, it's one of the books I re-read in high school. It's been ages, I kind of wonder whether I'd still love it today!
i recently purchased Better Than the Movies, because someone was gushing over it. But a book that I read and highly recommend is The Rosie Project. It is listed as a romance, but it isn’t a typical romance at all.
Yeaaah if animal death bothers you, don't pick up The Only Good Indians. I read the whole book like three or four years ago and I still have nightmares if I think about it too much. I DNF's the Host book but I do enjoy the movie! It's decidedly not good, but I still like it hahaha GOOD FOR YOU for getting rid of the extra baggage of books that you're not going to read. I hope you'll give us an updated TBR count at the end of the year!
Unhauls are such a nice feeling. I just did a 100 book unhaul to LFLs across Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona and it was such a relief. I also got rid of all of my Lianne Moriarty books. Ugh. The Only Good Indians is really good, but yeah there is some tough content into it. I feel the romance revolt. I'm in a permanent romance revolt. I try one romance per year and the one that I read this year was actually pretty good. Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan. Maybe that would bust your romance slump? Or I read Dragonfruit which is a solid fantasy, but does have a very wholesome romance subplot. I HATED The Cruel Prince. It is so problematic. The main dude is straight up abusive...like not in enemies to lovers, he's a bit rude to her...but like physical assault, verbal assault, bullying, and demeaning the main character. And it's all explained away by her seeing him being verbally abused. I can understand why a character would be dysfunctional after experiencing abuse, but that shouldn't be an excuse for him to actively abuse another character. When the book started to hint at a growing romance between them, I threw it across the room. The God of Small Things is interesting, but there is a lot of rough content in there. I think you're not going to miss much. I'm so sad that you're skipping The Enchanted. That is one of my all time favorite books. Tough subject matter, but gorgeous writing.
I agree. Keeping nonfiction is very rare for me. Lol! Fart humor is not for me. As we have discussed, I DNFed The Only Good Indians. I approve of that unhaul (not that you asked). That edition of Oliver Twist is really pretty. I'm sure someone else will love to add it to their collection. The Traveling Cat Chronicles most definitely has terminal illness rep. I DNFed it when I found out.
I will always recommend Nora Roberts as a romance author. I'm not saying all her books will be for you. What I am saying is that her backlist is extensive. She has fantasy and witch elements in a lot of her stories. There are a few gothic light trilogies I can think of off the top of my head. She also has a few contemporary settings with no fantastical elements at all. Additionally, she writes under J D Robb if you are looking for something more adventure/spy/thriller. I haven't read any of those, but she's Nora Roberts.
I have a very low tolerance for capital R 'Romance' (although I do enjoy some romantic relationships as part of stories), but two romance type stories came to mind - maybe worth reading the blurbs or samples of? One is a Victorian slightly magical pirate romance kind of parody - The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, and the other is Radiance by Grace Draven (one of Kristen's host favourites) - one of the few romantasy where the romance didn't make me aggravated.
I have had the same experience with Liane Moriarty as yourself - loved Big Little Lies and then I feel the books went downhill from there. Sad because she’s an Aussie author but that’s the way it goes.
I would be willing to try her again, but yes, nothing has really impressed me like Big Little Lies which is too bad! I would love any other Aussie author recs if you have them!
Black Leopard Red Wolf is *so good* (book 2 is even better) but it does need practically every content warning that could possibly exsist and the writing style is very different and takes some time to settle into. One of those books I am keeping on my shelf, but will almost never recommend to anyone because it is *heavy*.
Watching unhaul videos is always the most therapeutic for me too! I fully support you doing this too if it will make you less stressed or feel less cluttered 😅
@@leandrathetbrzero I’m still working on my booking tracking spreadsheet and cataloging all my physical books but as I’m doing it I’m seeing books that I’m never going to pick up. My small Colleen Hoover books that I’m never going to touch NEEDS to go. I’m have some historical fiction that i may or may not pick up but they were gifts and I’m keep going back any worth
Awe, I’m sorry to have made you sad, Heidi! I know it can be tough when seeing someone remove a book you’ve loved from their shelves. I’ve been in that position too. I promise they will be getting a second chance elsewhere!! ❤️☺️
The Only Good Indians is EXCELLENT but yeah if you can't handle animal death or distress, it's definitely not gonna be for you. It’s extremely intense and distressing on that front

“I don’t care about Shakespeare” 😂 same
Oh I loved the star crossed sisters of Tuscany! That was my most beloved book the year I read it.
Glad you were able to get so many off your shelves!! 😊

U Hauls are very satisfying 👌🏻

The last romance I really liked was The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston, it has a little magic and was one of my best books in April.
I do want to try that one! I feel like it would be a good blend of romance and magic/speculative fiction!
Dang that dowry of blood one hurt lol- but that’s okay I’ll love it for you
But I gave it 4 stars!! 🤣😅
Now I want to Unhaul ALLLL the things. Way to go!
It feels SO good! And now I look at my TBR shelves especially with confidence that I do truly want to read them all!
oh my I love Mitch Albom... I would be so happy tp find that second hand!
oh my that cover of Dowry is beautiful!
Yay for unhauls!! 💕
🥳🙌
I am really enjoying watching your videos.
Heather, stop flirting with me!
I liked Sense & Sensibility more too :3
I’m glad I’m not the only one! 🤗
Looovvvveeee an unhaul!
Me too!! 🥳🎉📚

I have written these down! These sound exactly like what I would need, because I agree the capital R in Romance is what puts me off!
I only read mystery and thrillers online. 😊

Unhauls feel good! This was a fun impromptu video, I am sad to see some of these go for you!

I 100% believe it! I’m sure someone else will be so excited to read it, and maybe one day I can try a different book by this author! 🙏
I do not believe in that. Bye
👋☺️
