I had the Tomahawk, XP14 Skystriker, and Night Raven. I was blessed with also having the GI JOE headquarters. The Gi Joe toys of the 80s were second to none. I still think they are the best lol
The WHALE was by far my favorite toy. Played with it for hours and hours in and out of the pool. Thank you GI Joe and Hasbro for being part of my childhood
That vehicle was so memorable for me too. Still have it and couldn't part with it. Another one I really played with a long time was the troop transport with the camouflage back and handle on the bumper for carrying. I don't know how many times I put all the team's gear on and had them all sitting and standing in there. The V.A.M.P. too, was a real fun one, and the Cobra C.L.A.W.
I loved that, got it for Christmas one year and I was so happy. Unfortunately, the skids were warped and wouldn't attach onto the base, so it had to be returned. It was the only one left so I never got a replacement. I'm still feeling it.
@@GrizzAxxemann are you talking about the tomahawk? It was to ambitious and I remember it fell apart after a few crash landings. The fang and the dragonfly were tough as all get out.
The Rolling Thunder is my favorite GI Joe vehicle. It was a massive tank/battle platform/missile command. Fully extended, opened and with the missile carriage upright, it was like a forward command center with its own 6 wheeled recon ATV. It has seating for 2 drivers, 4 gunners, 2 turret cannon operators, 1 communication station and 1 navigation post. That thing is awesome.
The one vehicle I always wanted was the Wolverine. Those dual rotating missile turrets just looked so cool. However, the jets have to be my top 2 as well. My favorite comic I owned as a kid, was a GIJoe comic detailing a dogfight between Ace and Wild Weasel.
The Wolverine was pretty neat, but the hatch area isn't as cool as the Mauler and the treads are plastic covers in the same way the HISS tanks are. Don't get me wrong, it was still a great toy, but it loses some points in a best-of discussion because of that. On the plus side, Cover Girl is a pretty solid figure and the missiles were durable and not just brittle plastic.
Wolverine was/is my favorite vehicle. Looks badass, lots of loose missiles/rockets, the launchers can aim just about any direction, and the toy is lo-fi enough that we didn't feel guilty running it through the dirt. In my battles, Cobra always managed to steal it. Sorry, good guys.
No MOBAT? A Mobile Battle Action Tank that's motorized, direction changing, had REAL treads and came with it's own figure, Steeler! Say it isn't so Dan!
and you missed cobra F.A.N.G. the most essential cobra copter, lives through pretty much the entire 80s. YOU Dan get a super awesome high five! some people just never experienced living as a child with a fridgerator Perry figure on their nightstand. and a cobra FANG hanging from their ceiling . sweet bliss!
Trouble Bubble. Or whatever it was called. The Tomahawk holds a very special place in my heart, as it was part of a truly remarkable birthday, when my school was shut due to snow, my biology exam was cancelled, and I got a three day weekend to play with my new toys (and do extra biology revision).
My most prized GI Joe possession growing up was the Havoc. I played with it for hours and hours. We went on tons of missions together. I agree that it doesn’t necessarily belong on this list of top 10 over all, but I loved it so much because it’s what I had!
Lots of people aren't fans of the Havoc, but it was hands down my favorite as well. It may not have been very functional had it been a real life military vehicle, but in the imagination of my 9 or 10 year old self it did damn near everything. It had air support by way of the hover vehicle, tons of firepower, and could hold a ton of Joes given the amount of pegs on it. Granted though if this had have been a real life vehicle whomever the two unlucky soldiers were that rode face down in that cockpit area should probably have been given free chiropractor visits for life lol!
I don't know, I never had one or had a friend that had one but the more I've looked at it I have to say it looks pretty badass and totally get why you would think it's awesome.
I loved the Havoc as well growing up for the reasons mentioned here. It was either a Christmas or birthday present, but it was 1 of the last my brother & I put together as a team. I was feeling like a big boy & building them was part of the fun. Sometimes tho he helped me later with difficult vehicles or stickers.
I got the SkyStriker and Killer Whale for Christmas one year. Greatest Christmas ever. My Mom didn't keep my toys, she gave them away ... I'm still working though some shit.
That hurts!!, I bought one SkyStriker 10 years ago in Ebay, good price, almost complete (no parachutes) in excellent condition, somehow got lost in transit, to this day nobody knows what happened to that package.
Cj W you’re not alone. Same happened to me. Had almost all the vehicles on this list and every single action force figure and set. Sadly all gone these days. 😥😥😥😥😥
Dude! Two words, "WART" and "HOG"! Best combination of all the neat things in Joe toys. Removable engine cover, seats for diver and support with a hatch, space in the back for more little dudes, and two giant missiles on top. How, oh how, in the nine realms did this not make the list? All kidding aside, great video as always.
James Kaiser II I've been scanning all of these comments for someone else who possesses the intelligence to realize the greatness of the Warthog. I scrolled for what seemed like seconds, thinking I may be the only one and then I found you.
The Rattler also had "Combat damage" Panels, I had one whilst one of my mates had a Sky Striker and we fought a lot over which one was better on the basis of nothing like children tend to do obv.
Moray is definitely one of the coolest and one of my favorites. Wish I still had it from my childhood. Had a badass pilot/captain, multiple machine gun stations, depth charges, missile rack and 2 hatches for figures to peer out from. Great looking toy
the Rattler was based on the Fairchild Republic A-10 *Thunderbolt II* . Warthhog is just one of several nicknames ( _though arguably the most popular_ ) given to the plane.
As a kid I liked that the Joe's vehicles were based on actually military designs: The Dragonfly, MOBAT, Wolverine. The VAMP, VAMP II, and the Awestriker were cool. A favorite, often forgotten vehicle is the Joe Snow Cat. It had regular as well as ski missiles as well as the figure, Frostbite. The Cobra Rattler and GI JOe WHALE were the best, though. They came with so many missiles, bombs, depth charges and guns galore. Along with accessories such as the scout sled and motorcycle for the WHALE and removable panels to show battle damage on the Rattler
We didn't like the Vamp because we always thought the guys would get flamed by the missiles. Kind of like this: ruclips.net/video/Mvm-1gorCeQ/видео.html
My first GI Joe toy was the RAM and Breaker to ride it. I remember getting it in 1984. The Mirage motorcycle was a good progression from the RAM as well.
I remember the whale and hydrofoil was fell apart real easily. The water moccasin was tough and well built. No to mention the vamp and stinger that could go off jumps and take beating
Some of my favorites were the Phantom stealth jet, the Tiger Paw ATV, the Dreadnok Thunder Machine, and Zartan's Chameleon Swamp Skier. The Chameleon was a bit on the lame side most of the time, but it was great in the snow, as was any figure with skis.
Kottonmouth 365 there’s a couple of real life versions out there. And there was some boutique toy company made their own take on it that looked pretty sweet.
Great list, but I would have rearranged, or added a few more. From 1982-1985, my friend had probably the BEST backyard, to ever play G.I. Joe. It was huge, with 3 big trees ( all climb able, with large sprawling branches, and high up "jungle " top canopy. One did have a tree house. Anyways, it wasn't all flat land, on one side, was small rolling hills, and the other side of the yard dipped down, a few feet. Then some nice big plant,, and bush/ flower beds. So when it rained, it had awesome ponding, and areas of a "river", flowing through. Watching the MOBAT traverse mud, the "hills", and going through water, while watching from 50 feet away, as it does its thing, was bliss. When it wasn't raining, we had the foam gliders. Perched way above in the tree house, and launched. We could get those babies to sail! There was never a bad day to play G.I.Joe in that yard. Even the one time it snowed for 2 days, just amazing. Between the two of us, we had the whole arsenal of joe/cobra items, including a few extra more, of the smaller stuff, like bivouac camps, radar tower/stations, a few trouble bubbles. The wolverine, was always near the MOBAT for support/ coverage. ( way to go Cover Girl!)... and the hawk missile systems, and howitzer always strategically placed. Damn I miss those days.
I think the VAMP should be on this list, your choices were well thought out and I agree with them. I just don’t know what I would pull out to be able to add the VAMP. WHALE!!!! (my all time favorite)
No SHARC? No Triple T? No Snowcat? Ok, the triple t is pushing it, but the SHARC was in no less than 3 sub teams, and the snow cat has been re used for both Tiger Force, and an (alternate version?!?) Of the HAVOC. Just my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to share your video with us!
Top 3 I had as a kid (not on your list): Conquest X-30 (in python patrol coloring), Snow Wolf, and Moray hydrofoil (which I got second hand). I did love my Sky Stryker, though. Also worth mentioning as to upping the enjoyment factor were the "blueprints" that each came with. I'd estimate another 47% enjoyment from blueprints alone.
I actually had the shuttle portion of the Defiant complex set, by itself... I don't recall at all how it came into my possession, as a kid. Probably gifted, possibly second hand, as I'm honestly not sure if you could get it as a separate piece or not. But, as a scifi fan, it very often became an integral part of my recreation of the opening to the original Planet of the Apes, vis a vis my parents' pool -- or the bathtub -- and 'escaping a sinking starship' sequences like that seen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Yes, yes, it's true. I really *was* that dope, even as a kid already.
Jon Miller Ah, okay -- thanks for the heads up on that. I realized a bit later, after commenting, that mine had a black and white motif, whereas the one pictured in the video was all white, I believe. So, I assumed it had to be a release all its own. Awesome to be able to confirm that. :)
The video I have longed for....however, I was expecting just Joe with a separate and Empire Strikes Back better than the first one Cobra only follow up.
I love the classics. Both Joe and Cobra planes. Whatever the car was called. AWE? and the Cobra variant. Wild Bill's helicopter was one of the best with the spinning rotars.
Bridge layer was a fun vehicle. Favorite vehicle I got for Christmas was the Cobra Moray. Played with that in a college fountain while my mom was taking classes at night. Hydrofoils worked great. That was when you could let your 10 yr old not need adult supervision.
Of course we all have our favorites that may or may not have made it into this video but this was a really fun watch. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, young version of Dan.
K4rt80y I had that, it was also motorized! And the figure who came with it was left in a different dimension where Cobra won in one episode. I forget his name, but his helmet had giant goggles... I'm surprised that other Joe tank didn't make the list. I forget the name, but I remember it being more popular, always on the show and commercials...
I was lucky to own five of them, 10, 7, 4, 3, and 2. But I can not believe three other vehicles I had did not make the list, the Thunderclap, the Mean Dog, and the Rolling Thunder. Oddly though, my favourite/most played with/oldest two were the Vamp Jeep, while towing the Cobra ASP. (don't ask, I was a kid!) These were great toys, I miss them...
The XH-1 Dragonfly and Wolverine Armored Missile Carrier should've been added. But glad to see that the Mamba, USS Defiant, Killer W. H.A.L.E. * (* Waterborne Hovercraft Assault Landing Experimental was its definition in Marvel's G. I. Joe #28) made the list. The Conquest X-30 should've been the #1 pick though. And Ace wears a stylized G-Suit.
I have to disagree. I had both the Conquest and the Rattler; the Rattler was hands down the better plane to play with. More and various types of missiles and bombs, a huge gatling gun, the rear turrent and the moveable VTOL wings! Good call on the Wolverine, though.
newrunner91 The Conquest outclasses the Rattler in terms of speed and maneuverability. I just wish the Rattler had followed the original Cobra Tanksmasher prototype as seen in G. I. Joe #22. It was a more truer looking A-10 Thunderbolt II. Liked G. I. Joe #34 except the last page, but Wild Weasle was more believable- the Baroness IS an aristocrat and does outrank him; Lady J was just a Corporal, Ace is a Captain. He should've ejected the cockpit and rear seat, and hopefully, LJ would've gotten what Goose got in Top Gun.
I had many gi joe products here from 1982 to maybe 1985 or 86. My dad was in the USAF so you can imagine how as a kid I could play with the fighter jet and A 10 and then be on base and see real ones training overhead and on the ground.
Moray instead of Mamba dude! With not far off the Defiant being the only redeeming aspect of the line in 1987, said year could be written out of the history books without many a tear being shed. In the meantime, more GI Joe content would be outstanding.
Decent list! Nice Happy Days reference! I'd have been more likely to include the VAMP, Dragonfly, and FANG somewhere in there, pulling out (reluctantly) the RAM, Firebat, and Mamba, and then re-order the list. I'd also have been more inclined to leave out the Defiant for the same reason you omitted the USS FLAGG. It can technically be used as a vehicle, but is much more of a mobile playset. The rotor configuration on the Mamba and Tomahawk is called "intermeshing," and it's common on all real life helicopter with two main rotors. Examples include the CH-47 Chinook and the Kaman K-MAX.
You kinda forget the things you played with and trashed over and over till it was just a shell and then it just disappeared or mom threw it away, until I seen them here. Thanks for bringing back old memories.
Dad bought me a Night Raven when I was in 3rd grade for getting all As on my report card. No toy I owned was ever more awesome than that thing.
My best friend had the Night Raven, my mom couldn't afford one that fancy, so I got the Bridge Layer instead.
Best Christmas gift I ever got
So COBRAAAA+

I still wished I had mine I got for Xmas
The rotors broke off mine a week after I got it. Then my dog thought the turret was a chew toy.
Right after the Hovercraft, the Dragonfly was my absolute favorite! Then the Rattler, then the original VAMP.
@@GrizzAxxemann are you talking about the tomahawk? It was to ambitious and I remember it fell apart after a few crash landings. The fang and the dragonfly were tough as all get out.
I always loved the WHALE. It actually floated as well. Totally the best toy.
The HISS owns in spite of being unrealistic and a terrible design for a combat tank. But it looks godly.
The truth is, in G.I. Joe battles, it makes little difference a very good tank from a bad one. A tank is a tank, you can't shoot it.
@@KillerKrieg plus it was the 80's and us kids didn't care we just played......

Yes, yes, it's true. I really *was* that dope, even as a kid already.
They sold just the shuttle part by it self latter on because I had it to.
Jon Miller Ah, okay -- thanks for the heads up on that. I realized a bit later, after commenting, that mine had a black and white motif, whereas the one pictured in the video was all white, I believe. So, I assumed it had to be a release all its own. Awesome to be able to confirm that. :)
I kinda made my own shuttle set when I was a kid when I found an thrown away Defiant crawler and a broken Star Wars Imperial Shuttle
I had the chrome Joe recolor of the Night Raven, the "Sky Raven." Easily one of my favorite toys as a kid. That thing was huge.
Can we get an honorable mention for the Ferret/Tiger Paw?
Well, you mentioned it. How honorable are you?
It was an interchangeable line of vehicles with Tiger Force & Python Patrol
Cobra's Hammerhead was my favorite. A giant tank with five additional, attachable water vehicles. The thing was a beast.
I also liked that weird Joe transport with six wheels that held like 16 figures.
Plus, it could actually float. It was pretty sweet.
Forgot I had that one, now I remember going through ditch water with it. I do remember having the Tomahawk helicopter.
Perhaps it is the intrigue having never owned it, but the Mauler always seemed so cool. And the Dragonfly. Again though, never owned it.
The video I have longed for....however, I was expecting just Joe with a separate and Empire Strikes Back better than the first one Cobra only follow up.
The Devilfish is by far my favorite G.I. Joe vehicle. It is the ultimate in playability -- it floats in the pool!
VAMP over Mamba
I love the classics. Both Joe and Cobra planes. Whatever the car was called. AWE? and the Cobra variant. Wild Bill's helicopter was one of the best with the spinning rotars.
Dude no glider?
A vehicle that was real? Come on.
Bridge layer was a fun vehicle. Favorite vehicle I got for Christmas was the Cobra Moray. Played with that in a college fountain while my mom was taking classes at night. Hydrofoils worked great. That was when you could let your 10 yr old not need adult supervision.
I liked steelers tanks and the Mobat tank. They should off been on the list
Steeler's tank WAS the MOBAT. Do you mean the MAULER?
No CLAW? C'mon- the 30 second animated commercial for the comic book introduced the CLAW and Storm Shadow!
"And of course the shuttle itself it's a shuttle itself."
- Dan Larson 2017
That was pretty damn funny
Of course we all have our favorites that may or may not have made it into this video but this was a really fun watch. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, young version of Dan.
No Mobat? How many toys cheated us with fake plastic tracks? The Mobat was the real deal.
Steeler. i think his name was steeler
Sears sold a black Cobra version of the MOBAT as an exclusive.
THe Mauler was the progression from the MOBAT as well. With upgraded cool controls.
@@hthrun the mauler? I had that one. it had a desert storm design.
(don't ask, I was a kid!)
These were great toys, I miss them...
Dragonfly beats firebat
Cobra mamba's rotor system is based on the Kaman KMAX helicopter
I just looked it up; pretty cool…
I'd have switched the motorcycle out for the snowmobile.
I hadem all, still got a few, what great memories. Im 44 now, lol.
Dragonfly didn't make the cut..
The HISS was the best! The Vamp was my second favorite. Third is perhaps an oddity but it was the APC. Man I loved that thing!
The APC was very sturdy. The only thing you could possibly break were the tabs on the canvas top part.
Such spooky Thanksgiving decorations!
Brilliant and spot on Maverick impression. Just needed that smirk.
No dragonfly?!!!
I agree... USS Flagg, not a vehicle.
USS Flagg....It's not a vehicle or play set. It's a life style choice heh.
You mean the USS Flagg doesn't float!? Thanks for telling me before I took it to Lake Michigan! BTW, another great video!
FAIL! The MOBAT should have beat some of these easily. It was battery operated, moving on its own.
Rattler should be #1.
I had many gi joe products here from 1982 to maybe 1985 or 86. My dad was in the USAF so you can imagine how as a kid I could play with the fighter jet and A 10 and then be on base and see real ones training overhead and on the ground.
Hell yeah vehicles!!!
Moray instead of Mamba dude! With not far off the Defiant being the only redeeming aspect of the line in 1987, said year could be written out of the history books without many a tear being shed. In the meantime, more GI Joe content would be outstanding.
You put the ram over a space shuttle complex??? Really?!
I did!
Awesome you replied!!
Toy Galaxy the RAM is awesome. My first GI Joe vehicle.
The ram is awesome but over the space shuttle complex?
The WHALE is a childhood memory that I'll treasure forevah. Incredible toy!
This guy knows his Joes, good call having sky striker on the list !
The Skystriker was number one that’s right‼️ Great list I agree with ALL of it👍🏽
Decent list!
Always liked Zartans swamp skier.
The 12 year old me is eternally grateful for this video 😊👍
A.W.E. Striker, Snow Cat, F.A.N.G.... so many great ones left off this list.
You kinda forget the things you played with and trashed over and over till it was just a shell and then it just disappeared or mom threw it away, until I seen them here. Thanks for bringing back old memories.
Nothing is more frightening than a VTOL A-10. Cobra had that.
