The biggest problem with these old shotguns is that they are assuredly short chambered. A very old 12-gauge may have a 2-inch or 2 1/2-inch chamber. You should not fire longer 12-gauge shells in a short chamber. Consider RST shot shells. They specialize in providing the correct ammo for old shotguns.
Never seen 2" except 1 gun my friend had made by greener...was a " ladies trap gun " 2" 12g.. All my guns are either 2.5" Or 2 3/4".. Did have a few old American guns chambered 2 5/8" . Rst and Poywad ammo arent avail in Canada to my knowledge.. Kent gamebore is however, and challenger now makes 1 3/4" mini shells in Canada... But...pressures with smokeless powder has to be respected in the old guns..as many were not smokeless proofed.
Nice to hear somebody saying this, ive got an old SxS hammer 8 gauge with laminated steel barrels made by Charles William Lancaster, ive shot it a few times with black powder shells but after reading where people are constantly say if you shoot a Damascus barrel it’s gonna blow up it makes me paranoid.
@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 it has been so far the barrels have some very light pits in them but there’s never been rust in them or on the outside of them, they still have their Damascus pattern on the outside. They ping loud when you tap on them like ive seen people do checking barrels. It’s a 12 lb gun, shells are about $4.00 a piece, it has quite a bit of recoil, it smokes and stinks like hell when it shoots and a couple shots means an hour of barrel cleaning so it’s not shot often. I’m sure it will outlast me lol.
@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 I’ve seen the wads on their site but they’re always sold out, ive never seen hulls on there at all just wads and a roll crimper. I bought some off a guy in Florida that resizes industrial hulls and loads them with black powder and 2oz of shot.
I've shot thousands of number 7 and number 8 through a twisted double barrel handed down for 4 generations. Low brass shells aren't that powerful. I've made slamfire out of 3/4 inch pipe. Mild steel with a welded seam.
I just bought an , I Hollis and sons , rebounding hammer double , 4 digit serial number , its in a leather covered 2 barrel case , the man i got it from said it had 12 gauge barrels and a set of rifle-barrels , the rifle barrels are gone , I still had to give $450.00 for it , i cant find much info on it , he said he thought it was made around 1900 to 1910 but he wasn’t sure .
Isaac Hollis & Sons was a London gun maker. Def worth. 450$.. Rifle barrels and shotgun... Jeez thats interesting. Depending on cond and function You make have a little treasure
Thanks for your Info!!!
