Any realistic sword fight, within the context of a duel, will be over in 10-15 seconds. That's the purpose of any treatise ever written. Dispose your opponent as quickly as possible. The longer a fight last, the greater the danger for one's self. Hopefully they're going to use some HEMA ( historical European marshal arts) practitioners for actor's training. They should be able to develop a style that is somewhat realistic but also entertaining.
I'll be quite happy with just very good old fashioned swordfight choreography with not too many quick film cuts/too many close up shots but room to see what's going on clearly. Ideally I'd like to see a range of sword types and fighting styles like Japanese and Chinese swordplay meeting medieval and 16th century onwards European styles.
Highlander is perhaps the one IP that I have no issue with being remade, largely because I consider Highlander: The Source to be one of the biggest pieces of disrespect given to a fandom at least before 2016. The way they capped off that Verse was a disgrace. Seeing this done properly, with one of nerd culture's favorite actors at the helm would mean a lot. I look forward to seeing this, so very much.

Im optimistic about this Highlander movie and Henry Cavil is a really cool choice, he deserves a huge hit what with the amount of bad luck he's had in recent years. It would be nice if Adrian Paul ended up playing this new, modern version of "Ramirez", or maybe they could cast someone like Russell Crow or even Denzel Washington; both those guys could bring some real charm for the Ramirez role. And yes this absolutely has to have a fitting score, but what musical artists and composers today could really do the score justice, cause Queen's musical score for the original was just so very good. I still love the music video, when Mercury is singing, and Christopher Lambert the o.g. "Highlander" himself walks on the stage and they look at eachother for abit, that was just such a cool moment I thought.

For me a big factor will be if they can hang on to that big 80's earnest melodrama. If that is thrown out for a cynical "too cool for school" and meta wisecracking style, it will be very sad. I haven't seen it mentioned much online, but I think a big part of why the OG Highlander hung in there for so long was that it was basically a movie version of an 80's new wave, slightly goth pop song. That will be so hard to capture again, but some good people involved, fingers crossed.
John Wick's fight choreographer is Wuxia-style. Maybe I'm the only one? I don't need a kung fu Highlander. But, I love the kinetic feeling of the John Wick fights and believe in Chad Stahelski, so I'll stay optimistic.
The next generation of movie sword-fights is stuff choreographed by groups like Adorea - they're approach is grounded in real life techniques, but they also know how to choreograph an action sequence so that it's authentic and entertaining. Hopefully Chad has a team like that working on this movie. I'd love to see what those guys could do with a real budget 😊
My love of faithfulness stops where "let's make a good movie" starts. If they make it awesome, they can change what they need. Stahelski has the right attitude about the balance between realism and awesomeness

I have a really good feeling about this. Both actor and director are extremely like minded in terms lore accuracy, consistency, putting the work in to make the best product possible, while also checking all the unnecessary Hollywood bull shit at the door.

In terms of the story though I hope they don't paint themselves into the corner of self-containment like the first movie did. I mean I loved the TV show back in the day and I've seen all the movies a couple of times (even the SyFy one...), but the continuity issues really promoted some escalating diminishing returns. I cannot wait to see him swing the Highlander katana. Henry Cavill is not only one of the best. One of the few only good actors left in Hollywood, but he’s also a purist which means he doesn’t want the story altered changed for a modern audience or messed with in anyway shape or form. He wants a faithful adaptation and I love this movie when it came out when I was a kid I went to see it in the theater. Saw it on TV. Seen it on TV many many times is the best I hope they keep the original score because queen is the best choice for the music. I don’t think it will be any fight on that because when you think Highlander, what are the songs that you think of you here princess of the universe and many many others you just can’t, do Highlander without the queen soundtrack
Yeah keeping to the original is a good idea, when it comes to the sword fights make each immortal have his own sword style based on a real world sword style, this I think was done in the series.

I have no problem with him innovating & keeping the fights fresh, as well as technically savvy, but the fight-scenes _also_ have to have a purpose- maybe I'm speaking for myself, but I think we're burned out on soulless flash...

A reboot has always a certain risk taking with it, especially with a cultfilm like Highlander. There will be comparisons, some will like it, others wont, but in the end its just an interesting story told again, ut now with the possibilities of this time. Looking forward to it for sure
I hope they dive into the loneliness an immortal character feels from being long lived. Not only are they destined for doom by combat in a hunter/hunted destiny, the mortals around them will all be temporary in their lives. The action will no doubt be modernized and great, but lets hope the character stories get the same modern treatment.
I have full faith that this reboot or whatever it is, is going to be treated very well..... I am so onboard, i love this franchise, from the movies to the TV show, the TV show brought so much depth to what little we got from the movies. Along the TV show not being a reboot, but a continuation of the same McCloud clan, i hope they can somehow weave that in somehow. I am so excited.
I really hope they the master swordmasters STahelski uses are HEMA guys. I always said soemone needed to do justice to sword fights like Jon Wick didi justice (on steroids) to shooting. Who else then Stahelski? But in needs to take HEMA elemenst into the choreography like shhoting scened uses real tactical moves.
I've been a huge fan of the Highlander franchise for as long as I can remember. I loved all the movies (yes, even The Quickening, tho the Director's Cut was better) and the various TV series. I'm also a huge fan of both Henry Cavil and Chad Stahelski and know that they will bring a level of detail and love to this project! I'm eager for production to begin and can't wait for the first trailer so I can whet my appetite for new Highlander content!
I look forward to this movie to rebirth the opportunities of Errol Flynn, of Zorro, and to tell Disney to stop for the love of cinema letting people play in the sandbox at Lucasfilm. Disney / Lucasfilm if you want to get in on the action have I got stories for you. Give Hope a chance and give fans the Lucasfilm they deserve! If Disney really wanted to make some awesome Star Wars Movies give those fans that have made some good fan art short films the big budget to film their stories and it would bring the Star Wars franchise back to greatness. IJS
And what about the series with Duncan MacLeod / Adrian Paul? He would know a thing or two about the original story and about swordplay. A true remake would not exclude the series which had/has a big fanbase. There can be only one--but I think Henry Cavill would love the input.
best sword fighting was from Thranduil from the Hobbit battle of the five armies. i could really believe an elf who lived for hundreds of years had mastered the art of swordfighting, getting rid of everything non-essential and expanding on the essentials. i would get the team who trained him for that movie.
Henry Cavill being attached isn't the fan-win people think it is. Hollywood has long noticed and decided to take advantage of it, to Cavill's loss. Just look at what happened with The Witcher.
The fact that Henry walked away, I think shows that its not always about the money. I think its safe to assume that he may have passed on this project if they didnt at least hold to the spirit of the original. Of course this is a conjecture on my part. But hes always been about respect the role, respect the IP, etc.

Anyway it goes the toughness of this okay you got Henry Calvin playing the Highlander. But you're going to need an actor every bit it's good to play Ramirez AKA Sean Connery's character who did a great job. And last but not least who's going to replace Clancy Brown the man did a great job as the kurgan. These three men made the movie and not to be a stickler in the mud but I hope they have an opening talk just like they did in the original with the same sound effect I know Sean Connery read it in a bathroom but it still sounds awesome
Henry Cavill is a mensch. (Look it up) He always has a good attitude and is a fan of these franchises he’s been involved in. The problem has been the studios who play games with these franchises and Henry speaks up, and they don’t like that. Superman, The Witcher; etc, War hammer being the latest. Henry will be great if they leave the story alone . I hope so.

First off with all the politics out and BS I look forward to your videos they are awesome ok back to the film I love me some Highlander I can see Cavill as McLeod, Jeff Goldblum as Ramirez (I could see him dressed like a peacock), but who would play The Kurgan? Also as we all have seen in the second film they were aliens not human well in one version at least. The music score was outstanding can't go wrong with Queen. I'm surprised of them making a remake the first 2 movies lost money I loved them but still the studios are all about the Duckett's not art but I will wait and see I can always hope for the best unfortunately I'm frequently disappointed

I really hope they the master swordmasters STahelski uses are HEMA guys.
I always said soemone needed to do justice to sword fights like Jon Wick didi justice (on steroids) to shooting. Who else then Stahelski?
But in needs to take HEMA elemenst into the choreography like shhoting scened uses real tactical moves.
I've been a huge fan of the Highlander franchise for as long as I can remember. I loved all the movies (yes, even The Quickening, tho the Director's Cut was better) and the various TV series. I'm also a huge fan of both Henry Cavil and Chad Stahelski and know that they will bring a level of detail and love to this project! I'm eager for production to begin and can't wait for the first trailer so I can whet my appetite for new Highlander content!
Let's hope if this comes to fruition it's done exceptionally well, without political agenda.

Henry Cavill is a fan of the OG Highlander. He will do the franchise right.
If they can make it as good as the Highlander Series. It will be awesome. The 1st movie was good, but the sequels were... best not talked about.
I look forward to this movie to rebirth the opportunities of Errol Flynn, of Zorro, and to tell Disney to stop for the love of cinema letting people play in the sandbox at Lucasfilm. Disney / Lucasfilm if you want to get in on the action have I got stories for you. Give Hope a chance and give fans the Lucasfilm they deserve! Please do something and answer these gauntlets, get your studios in order Disney and let me pitch. Have Hope fans!
If Disney really wanted to make some awesome Star Wars Movies give those fans that have made some good fan art short films the big budget to film their stories and it would bring the Star Wars franchise back to greatness. IJS
And what about the series with Duncan MacLeod / Adrian Paul? He would know a thing or two about the original story and about swordplay. A true remake would not exclude the series which had/has a big fanbase. There can be only one--but I think Henry Cavill would love the input.
best sword fighting was from Thranduil from the Hobbit battle of the five armies. i could really believe an elf who lived for hundreds of years had mastered the art of swordfighting, getting rid of everything non-essential and expanding on the essentials. i would get the team who trained him for that movie.

Henry Cavill being attached isn't the fan-win people think it is. Hollywood has long noticed and decided to take advantage of it, to Cavill's loss.
Just look at what happened with The Witcher.
The fact that Henry walked away, I think shows that its not always about the money. I think its safe to assume that he may have passed on this project if they didnt at least hold to the spirit of the original. Of course this is a conjecture on my part. But hes always been about respect the role, respect the IP, etc.
I really don't like remakes. I also don't like getting nothing from Franchises that I love. So, I'm conflicted. They need to either shit, or get off the pot with this movie. Please either make it, or abandon it forever. Great video. Thanks.
Anyway it goes the toughness of this okay you got Henry Calvin playing the Highlander. But you're going to need an actor every bit it's good to play Ramirez AKA Sean Connery's character who did a great job. And last but not least who's going to replace Clancy Brown the man did a great job as the kurgan. These three men made the movie and not to be a stickler in the mud but I hope they have an opening talk just like they did in the original with the same sound effect I know Sean Connery read it in a bathroom but it still sounds awesome

He always has a good attitude and is a fan of these franchises he’s been involved in.
The problem has been the studios who play games with these franchises and Henry speaks up, and they don’t like that.

Not overly thrilled by this, they're going to throw too much money at it and lose all of the spirit, the original just had that perfect trio of queen, the 80s setting and Clancy Brown chewing the living f*** out of the scenery 😂

First off with all the politics out and BS I look forward to your videos they are awesome ok back to the film I love me some Highlander I can see Cavill as McLeod, Jeff Goldblum as Ramirez (I could see him dressed like a peacock), but who would play The Kurgan? Also as we all have seen in the second film they were aliens not human well in one version at least. The music score was outstanding can't go wrong with Queen. I'm surprised of them making a remake the first 2 movies lost money I loved them but still the studios are all about the Duckett's not art but I will wait and see I can always hope for the best unfortunately I'm frequently disappointed
Worthy IP for a reboot... the old highlander stuff was great, but it's a bit dated... giving it a modern treatment could work out very well.

I love the original. It is a seminal film from my youth. I doubt that I will see this one. So far it sounds like john wick with swords. McCloud fighting multiple attackers at once and walking away sounds dumb af
The Highlander series was better than the movies. We got 5 good seasons.
