  • After hearing about Aldi for so long, I finally get to visit my first store! We don't have Aldi in Alaska and it's not a store we've ever been to on any of our trips, so I was excited to experience it for the first time.
    My thoughts? I LOVED IT! From their Advent calendar selection, the prices, and the variety of items they carried, I thought it was a great store, especially considering that the store itself wasn't huge. This is definitely a store I would visit if we had one near us.
    What are your thoughts on Aldi? Do you love it? Have you been to one before? Let us know in the comments below!

      It's a german brand. Aldi was found by the Albrecht brothers. They called their Shopmfirst ALDI, bacause of ALbrecht, DIskont. thats, why ALDI and Lidl, are called Diskounter in germany. thats stands for low price supermarket. The Albrecht brothers had later split of, because one of them didn't want to sell cigaretts. so we had after than Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord. So one Aldi in the south, one in the north. the american aldi is Aldi Süd (south) and Aldi Nord is named Traders Joe in the States.
      If you like chocolate, i can tell you, my favourit is filled with white mousse au chocolate. I'm addicted to it. hmmmmm🤤

    Aldi is not bad. In Germany, Aldi has regional products from manufacturers in the immediate vicinity in its range.
    That not only saves transport costs. You can advertise regionality.

    Aldi is German, so a lot of the products are from Europe and better quality than your typical U.S. supermarket. I bought the cheese advent calendar...and almost all the cheese is already gone. LOL It's definitely my favorite place to shop.
    Odd fact, the checkers are timed as part of their job, so getting through the line is usually super speedy!

    Aldi is AWESOME! Now... 20 years ago, I wasn't a fan. It was a "stop there if you need something last minute - or European/specialty treats. NOW... It's our main grocery store. The quality is superb (even the knock-offs are tremendous). For us around HERE their prices are low, so I can imagine how shocked you must be! Though... all the Aldis around us sold out of all the Advent Calendars within 15 minutes of the stores opening the day they went on sale. I'm amazed that one had so many!! ANY! LOL Thought - the TP... not so much. Willow Soft yes, Willow... NO LOL You guys are awesome, I'm liking and subscribing!

    • @Llortnerof
      @Llortnerof 2 года назад +1

      'Knock-offs' are often just the same stuff in off-brand packaging, so you're not paying extra for the name.
      Aldi is used to tiny margins on stuff, sometimes just making cents per unit (or less); they live off of huge volumes and super-streamlined delivery chains. Probably one of the best examples of German efficiency at work.

    • @magni5648
      @magni5648 Год назад

      @@Llortnerof In short, Aldi is used to the german grocery market, where you basically have to work like that to survive. That's the market *Walmart* went into and lost over 3 billion bucks within a few years before pulling out because the competition was too hard for them.

    • @Llortnerof
      @Llortnerof Год назад

      @@magni5648 Pretty much, yes. Given that they're one of the big players on that market, they kinda have to know how it works.
      Though Walmart also thought they could flaunt workers rights and market regulations and Germany told them in a cold, commanding tone that no, they could not. "The American Way" doesn't work in Germany. The German way works just fine in America.

    The one thing about Aldi I don't like is when you see something and you say "oh it's not on my list I'll come back and get it some other time" well you go back say a week and it's not there. So if you see something that you really love BUY IT! Cause it's gone the next day. Just aheads up in case Anchroage gets an Aldi. :)

      Merci, Toffifee / Toffifay, Knoppers and Werther's Original.

      It is just a way to stay cheap(er). You bring back the cart yourself, they do not have to pay someone to do it. They save wages, can offer items cheaper. BTW done in Germany that way since decades at nearly every shop that has carts.

    • @HH-hd7nd
      @HH-hd7nd 2 года назад +1

      Violett Vlogs The reason for that is simple actually: People don't litter the parking lot with carts when they have to spend a quarter (or 50 cents or 1 € here in Germany, depending on the store) to get the cart and get the money back when returning the cart to its place. This eliminated the problem of people leaving their carts all over the place here in Europe in a very efficient way.

    Aldi is the BEST! We do about 95% of our grocery shopping there. We usually just have to go to Kroger for about five or six items and I usually spend almost as much on those as I do the rest of my shopping trip at Aldi. I usually can get our groceries for the week for our family of five for about $60-$70 at Aldi. Those things you were seeing like a princess dresses and other toys or what they call Aldi Finds. New items are added every week and they last for two weeks or until they run out and they always change based on the season. On the Aldi app you can always see what things are coming up next. I make it a point to check the app every Wednesday to see what’s coming up next. I wish I could’ve yelled to you through the screen to get the peanut butter cups, because they are incredible and I will change your life. All of the off-brands that you see such as friendly farms and Perino and Savoritz are all Aldi brands and I think that those things are just as good if not better than national brands.

    Aldi is a Swedish/German grocery store, so alot of their products are imported.
    Aldi keeps their prices low by making you pay a quarter for a cart. This makes you want to return your cart so you can get your quarter back. This way, they don't need to pay someone to get carts.
    Also, they don't give away free sacks. You need to bring your own bag, pay for an expensive bag, or grab an empty box off the shelf. Aldi is one of few stores who actually encourages you to take their boxes. This way, they don't have to break them down and recycle them or throw them away. These are more ways they are able to keep prices low.
    Aldi was founded on the principles of the customer doing a little more work so they can save more money.

    Question... how does Aldi handle the sales tax in the US? In germany in every store the tax is already included on the price tag. Now Aldi as a german company do the same overseas or is the price on the tag still before tax?

    Okay, here's what we learned from being in Germany. Two German brothers, started together, a store. Then when they came to the US, one wanted to sell liquor, the other not. One became Aldi and the other is Trader Joe's, which is way more upscale! Our Aldi in Pa does not sell Liquor, but then neither does our Trader Joe's. We have Pa State Liquor stores, or did, now recently many of our local grocers are allowed to have a liquor license. We also have Lidl which is also German and a step above Aldi in merchandise, in my opinion. We do sometimes run into Aldi to buy their cheap cans of Tuna in water for our Thai and Mocha. If you're gonna try other stores....try Lidl and also , you must find a publix and buy their Key lime pie!!!! Would love to see a vlog on them!

      The story with the two brothers goes a bit different: They started with their dad's shop and changed and expanded it. Later one of them wanted to sell cigarrettes and the other one didn't, so they split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. The owners of Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's in 1979.

      @@Astrofrank Some additional Details:
      1913 Karl Albrecht Sen. founded a grovery store in Essen-Schonnebeck.
      His both Sons Karl Jun. and Theo take over the store in 1945.
      1948 they changed their concept to the discount concept: "Minimum range of products for a cheap price".
      1954 the first chain store outside the city of Essen opened.
      1955 100 chain stores opened.
      1961 300 chain stores opened.
      1961 official because they couldn't agree about selling cigarettes in their stores the both brothers split the company. Theo take controll over Aldi North, Karl Jun. over Aldi South. Both brothers arranged a "gentlemen aggreement" and divided Germany for their stores to avoid direct competition. This "No direct competition" is still valid for both Companies in most Countries.
      1962 The first real discount store with the brand "Aldi" opened (stores before where not 100% self-service stores).
      Outside Germany in most countries the "no direct competition" rule is also established. Therefore All Aldi stores in Belgium, France, The Nederlands, Denmark, Poland, Portugal and Spain are owned by Aldi North. Stores in Australia, Ireland, UK and China owned directly by Aldi South. In Austria Aldi South take over the Hofer KG (1968) and Hofer (and therefore Aldi South) has stores in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland.
      Only in the US (Aldi North take over Traders Joe's in 1979, Aldi South started as Aldi in 1976 but re-arranged the US concept and expansion plans in 2015 massivly).
      (2020)
      Total number of Aldi Nord owned stores 5,241
      Total number of Aldi Süd owned stores 7,178
      Combined total of Aldi owned stores 12,419

      Kroger is nice too. It has a bit different selection, that’s good!
      Sad here in Germany and I think the rest of Europe, the Aldi can’t by no means match up with the US Aldi on Keto and grass fed production items! Unfortunately!
