CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Caulfield (Elliott Gould) tries to explain to his editor (David Doyle) that he's on the verge of a big scoop.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Astronauts Charles Brubaker, John Walker, and Peter Willis (James Brolin, O.J. Simpson, and Sam Waterston, respectively) are hailed as heroes when they become the first men to be rocketed to Mars. Actually the space travelers are as phony as their mission controller, Dr. James Kelloway (Hal Holbrook); to avert a failure that might cost the space program its funding, the Mars-bound vessel has been sent up without a crew, while the helmeted astronauts sit on a movie soundstage, pretending to be in outer space for the benefit of the TV cameras. Unfortunately the Mars ship crashes on arrival, making the astronaut trio thoroughly expendable. Investigative reporter Robert Caulfield (Elliott Gould), who's smelled a rat all along, races against time to prevent NASA from "terminating" the hapless astronauts in order to cover up the conspiracy.

David Doyle is brilliant in this scene. Perfect rhythm and comic timing
"You need a dermatologist?"
Great comedic actors are often also great at drama.
Charlie's Angels
This scene actually continues a bit longer where Gould tells Doyle that an assignment editor is supposed to tell his reporter that he has 48 hours to find something or it is the reports neck, because he saw it in a movie. Doyle says he has only 24 hours, because he saw the movie too & it was only 24.
Well done, correct! 👍
1:17 Caulfield (Gould): Somebody took a shot at me. Loughlin (Doyle): When? Caulfield: Yesterday. Loughlin: Thank god I've got an alibi!
First saw this film 🎥 in '78 and I still laugh every time I watch this clip 🤣. Brilliant!
David Doyle is funny as hell in this!
One of the best "argument scenes" in the history of movies.
Spartaculus Jones A bit one sided, but yes.
'They cover mundane stories like....WARS' ~ brilliant 😄
Great dialogue and actors in this film.
Yet Caufield got the last laugh in the end.
This Movies a classic
One of my favorite character of Charlie's Angels from 70s,John Bosley.
“Frankly Scarlett, I DON’T GIVE A DAMN!!!”
@@DeadlyKiss000 NO!!! David Doyle’s character said that line!! It was HILARIOUS!!! 🤣🤣🤣
My FAVORITE scene!!!
Scoop caufield..
An epic roast! 😂
I've seen this several times in the small town I was living in because this movie was a victim of the success of STAR WARS at the time . This movie was released in the summer of 1977 . STAR WARS was such a big hit , the small town couldn't get a copy of it .
David Doyle looked like sort of a B-movie Jack Lemmon
If only this movie was 5 minutes longer...
Imagine a conversation between David Doyle and Karl Childers from "Slingblade"!!! LOL!!!
DANA-----I LIKE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like this newspaper could have been a movie in itself
Lol 😂
I mean, he's right. Elliot Gould's character is a terrible journalist.
this is the only movie elliot gould was good in
Was that guy a total recluse at NASA. None of his co-workers remember him? How do you fake rental receipts? That landlord never saw him when he signed over the lease? None of his neighbors remember him either? No family filing a missing person report? I smell a steamy pile of bullshit. It’s little things like this that make large conspiracies so improbable.
You have idea. It's very possible.
@@redfeather22sa definitely not probable
Some families aren't as close as one would expect.
A hefty pay-off to his sibling(s).
Some BS excuse to his parents (your son is working on a top secret program right now, new development can't say anything more but I promise he will make you very proud in the end).
Receipts? If the Federal Reserve can print mo money, can they also fake receipts?
OR: your son/sibling/neighbor is in the Federal Witness Protection Program and we can't say anything more without endangering his life.
We will pass on any letters from him to you though, and vice versa.
You do know this is a movie, right?
My hero O.J.Simpson was also in this movie
That's when the news media changes to 24, 7, cycle, and the rest is this scene
Bosley !
