Cheers Richard, i've just moved the Buzzard perches closer to the permanent hide so I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. You got any new projects on the go?
@@simoneardley nice one, fingers crossed you get the results:-) it’s a great setup, look forward to part 2 😉👍. A few in the pipeline but the weathers been awful, 3 times out with little results! Will keep cracking on 👍
My number one dream photo is for me to capture a Buzzard close up. When he finally perched up on that stunning branch all the time spent in the hide must have made you so chuffed. Great video and thanks for the tips.
Well paid off thats a fantastic shot the first one with the squirrel with its wings out stretched absolutely fantastic its times like this i wish i still lived in my old bungalow out in the sticks had access to a private wood with a buzzard nest in to but i didn't do photography back then i just used to watch them talk about missed opportunities eh,
Lovely footage and stills, the Buzzard landing on the Squirrel is wonderful. Living in Bedfordshire we’ve lots of good wildlife areas, re wilded gravel pits, country parks etc, but it can be frustrating to walk for miles, spend hours in the field and see little, but then see lots of Red Kites, Buzzards and Kestrels on the drive home with no where safe to pull over 🤬
Yeh I know how you feel Sue. If i regularly see something over the same piece of land, I'll find the landowner, knock on the door and try and get some private permission. So much more relaxing when you have the place to yourself. Give it a go!!👍🏼
@@simoneardley Good advice, I might give it a try 👍. Funnily enough I can almost guarantee seeing them over or next to the M1 at Jnc13 and the 3 main roundabouts there, I’m guessing my hunkering down on the roundabouts, or adjacent dual carriageway shrubbery will result in a prompt visit from a fast car with flashing blue lights 😉. Thanks for another good video.
Well done Simon. That was a super effort, which resulted in a true moment of joy. Epic stuff. Wow the power of deception, will and intent cannot be underestimated. Fantastic pictures. Have a great new year - part 2 now. Mark
I’m hoping this time next year, I can do similar activities on a regular basis. I just need to learn to drive first. I’ve got a few subjects in mind that I’d like to document and I’m very fortunate to live within at 20 minute drive from home with access to remote corners of the British countryside. The buzzard is definitely going to be one of those subjects. The Sigma 150-600mm contemporary is a fantastic lens.
Simon that was worth waiting for I've been tracking a buzzard around our local farm for the last 2 months I'm hoping to get him onto my memory card soon very nice video mate
Absolute top notch Simon. I was fortunate or unfortunate depending on your perspective to witness a Buzzard ambush one of my local Barn Owls a couple of weeks back, it was brutal and thankfully to far away for any decent photos. Buzzards are a great Raptor, you are so lucky to have access to get these shots. I can’t get anywhere near one.
great day! ive leant a lot from your approach methods. and been trying similar stuff, in garden during lockdown etc. so glad you got a great moment from all the long hours etc. its so easy to watch here, in the warm, without the 5 hour wait! keep them coming, love the end footage of these videos. well done Simon!
Thanks John, if theres one good thing to come from lockdown its that people appreciate their gardens more if theyre lucky enough to have one. Keep it up 👍🏼📷
Really enjoyable watch Simon. I've got an old 170-500 Sigma that I'm hoping to capture some wildlife videos on once we're allowed out again. Will be having a good explore on your channel! 👍
What a result 👍. What I love about your vlogs Simon. Is you take the viewer with you. You really do, I almost feel like I've gone down there with you. Topman👍
Hi Simon I have just watched your kingfisher and your buzzard videos loved them both, you deserve all your success with the effort and commitment that you put into making the videos, No nonsense just pure entertainment. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
Another great video Simon 👍. I had the opportunity to photograph a buzzard a few years back. My 93 year old father said he was feeding a buzzard in his back garden? What are you feeding it on I asked him, he replied bread! Bearing in mind he lives in Hythe right on Southampton water, not normal buzzard country, I told him it won't be a buzzard dad. Me being the great bird expert I thought I should put me dad right. So I went down to me dads house using it as the hide, with my spotting scope and digital camera ( digiscoping). You've probably already guessed it, down came a magnificent buzzard! I told my dad to switch to meat feed and nine years later the buzzard is still coming down to feed. I think it's a female as she stops coming around March April and returns around October, so I assume that shes laying and rearing chicks. I've just been down to my dads last week to build him a new log perch right outside his window where he sits so he has a better view when it returns this year. Fingers crossed. Good story eh?
A great story Paul, probably wouldn't have believed it eh if you hadn't seen it with your own eyes!! Nature never ceases to amaze does it!! All the best to you and your old man, cheers . Si 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the reply si, buzzard update, since my last post me dads buzzard has returned to it's new feeding post! Me dad saw it from his chair and rang me to let me know, still shaking with excitement and like a kid at Christmas. 👍
Fantastic vlog Simon, well done, everything worked out for you that day. The photographs of the buzzard on your log set-up were great, what a beautiful bird. Looking forward to seeing a kingfisher on that log in the near future, Maybe a winter kingfisher vlog.
Great video Simon and lovely photos! my birds of prey season as just begun and I'm super exited to see what turns up this year, had a goshawk down the other day for about 1 minute but still really awesome! Cheers
8 hours in the hide that’s perseverance for you Simon. However it paid off making all your planning and hard work worth it. As always an enjoyable watch. We viewers benefit from your efforts too when you produce such good content.
It was great to see that you’re long wait paid off, Simon with some awesome Buzzard footage. That you managed to capture. As always Thank you for taking us on your wildlife adventures.
Cheers Michael, its a fair question. I pick a lot up off the roads but i know a couple of game dealers who after they have filleted off the breast meat will discard the carcass which I take off them to use to attract the Buzzards. Its sad to see but at least the birds are not completely wasted.
Great vlog mate well worth the wait I’m building a hide my sister has a farm with loads of land there is 2 Buzzards that fly around so hope yo get them
Hi Simon, cracking video and really enjoyed it. Just found the channel so have subscribed. Personally I think the blizzard is of the most difficult birds to photograph but what an awesome bird. Its funny but I've just started a similar project myself. I also tend to go in during the dark but of course makes filming a vlog not easy at all. Anyway, great setup and results for a lot of hard work and effort. Makes it all worthwhile. Keep safe and look forward to seeing more videos. All the best...
Thanks Simon, you think Buzzards are hard to capture you haven't seen my efforts at getting a Tawny Owl to sit pretty.😆 I'll get there in the end, we always do eh!👍🏼 I followed youre recommendation about on the Osmo Action, great little camera. I ended up getting a liitle LED light made by Ulanzi for vlogging in the hide, they struggle a bit in low light dont they. Anyway if youre passing on your way up to Scotland sometime give me a shout and I'll show you the Buzzard hide, all the best. Si👍🏼📷
@@simoneardley thanks Simon. Yeah low light in the hide is a problem so I also ordered the light - well a Christmas present from my daughter but she doesn't know yet 😉 Tawny Owls or any owls can take months to get but so worth it in the end. Top job Simon. I'm afraid my attempts at encouraging birds to my feeding station on the farm I have access to, are so far quite dismal. I'm limited as to the locations I can use; and although one piece of waste ground looked ideal, there were no takers. I had dragged a load of wood and old fencing posts across two fields, but fortunately did not build a hide - I wanted to see if the birds would come onto the feeders first. Still, onward and upward. I may have better luck once the colder weather sets in.
Stick at it Pete, like you say the cold weather will probably bring them in. Keep the feeders topped up and I'm sure you'll get results. A trailcam is a great asset for you to keep an eye on things when youre not there.

Nice shots Simon. So good to see all your efforts pay off. Just a bit puzzled as to why you didn't put the perches closer to the wooden hide and use that?
Thats part of the plan Dave, theyre that twitchy i wanted to keep the feeding spot at a distance and then gradually move it closer. Hopefully they'll fall for it 👍🏼
I think its a great lens for the money. Obviously they can be a challenge when the light really drops off but youre bound to get that with the aperture range but when you get the light theyre superb. As far as handheld, no problem. Good technique helps massively.
Simon, I’m just venturing out from personal into commercial bird & wildlife photography and would like to know which hide you’ve used on this video please. I couldn’t quite catch the name. Thank you
Wonderful video Simon. Believe it or not I have been trying for fifteen years to get images of buzzards on prey for and have yet to manage it. Can I ask is your hide on your land? I am currently reduced to lying halfway down a drainage ditch with a covering of dead reeds and scrim netting with a road kill pheasant in front of me. The times I have to emerge after 3-4 hours with chronic back ache only to have Mr Buzzard fly from the tree behind me😂 You have just enthused me to endure some more pain mate!!👍
Sounds familiar Scott, the things you do for a picture eh!!🤣My hide is on private land belonging to a family member, I've been watching your channel, good stuff mate. Stick at it Scott and I'm sure you'll get the shots your after 👍📷

Stick at it Scott and I'm sure you'll get the shots your after 👍📷
@@simoneardley Cheers Simon, I'm hoping to copy your hide design at some point. I like more and more the sound of making a brew while I'm waiting for them to turn up! I must be getting old mate😂👍
