      Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati, Parmigiano, just these come from one city in Italy...
      Then Clothes Versace, Armani, Gucci, etc etc. Food, wine etc etc. Every city in Italy is a open museum with millenary culture. I don't get why Russia should be embarrassed.

      Its only logical, you gus give eu too much credit. China in 1990 used to be at the same place as india it barely had an economy. Fast forward to today they have the 2nd largest economy in the world. 1st largest if its GDP PPP theyre an economic powerhouse which will in due time surpass eu.

    There were periods in the 1990s that Italy was Europe's third largest economy. Furthermore, in Italy there is unfortunately a lot of black market, in a percentage of perhaps 30% of the GDP.

    Still impressive. Turkey and the Netherlands do not differ much economically. They do differ in terms of inhabitants. Turkey 86 million, the Netherlands 18 million.

      The European Union is a big factor and the Netherlands is getting good investments. Turkiye's geographical location affects investments and growth in many ways. If Türkiye were in the European Union, this situation would be very different and it would probably be competing with Russia.

      Everything will be different for many countries after dollar loses its importance. For example UK's production is much lower than that of Italy. But UK's economy seems to be larger because USA feeds it with dollar.

    The graph shows nominal gross domestic products. This is not a perfect indicator of the economic power of countries.
    We must take into account purchasing power parities, the composition of GDP and private and public debt rates. We must also look at the net external position, the balance of payments and the trade balance.
    Ireland's GDP, for example, mainly reflects its status as a tax haven. Russia's GDP may seem very low, but the country also has very little debt and its economy is weakly tertiarized. And France tends to replace its factories with shopping malls whose activity is indirectly fueled by social benefits.
    Of course, nominal GDPs still have a meaning: for example, Switzerland really has a disproportionate economic power. But we must be wary of nominal GDP: it is only one indicator among others.

    Russia should not be in that ranking because in reality it is not part of the European Union and at the continental level it is a separate geographical area entrenched in Asia and part of it (not all of it) is a neighbor of Eastern Europe...

      This chart is about Europe, not EU. Hence countries like Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, and Russia are on it. Russia has always been considered both part of Europe and Asia (everything east of Ural Mountains). Its most important population centers and economic activities are in the Europe part anyway.
