/ xrm150 I share great stuff on there! So I was at my local airport Lakeland Linder home of the SUN 'n FUN Flyin and guess who showed up out of the blue!
The sound and smell of these aircraft always excites me a bit. I airborne and used to be a paratrooper. The first plane I ever jumped out of was a C-130. So I have a bit of a nostalgic place in my heart for them.
First, Fat Albert was the name we used for C-5A's when they first came out and until and until MAC prohibited the use of that name. Second, in all my years of standing ground for C-130 engine starts I can never rember having anyone helping with legs like that !!!! A retired Air Force Master Sergeant.
Lucian Simpson, Jr...C-130 Hercules maintenance and mechanic, USAF/ AIR NATIONAL GUARD, 1971-1977 ....These Air Buses were and still are, part of the "airborne backbone "
Hello ☺️ Came here from K Pop girl group "Twice" and one is in to archery, ouch. This cute little number, standing in front of the the the oh yeah C-130, should add bunny rabbit ears and a cotten tail! She has very cute mannerisms! It is amazing any aircraft take off.
I used to work the line at LAL back before the terminal building was built. Peidmont Hawthorne was the FBO and we were in this terrible little building that was next to the control tower. Great times, especially during Sun N Fun.
A chick in a mini skirt as a flagman, awesome! I notice that many don't understand that this is a turbo prop engine, hence there is a turbine air power start cart used to power the centrifugal turbofan engine through a planetary reduction gear to start the engine.
Question for you ‘130/turboprop drivers, at the 2:14 mark he sequentially changes pitch, or throttles down each engine... I was curious If that change occurring is him feathering each prop, or simply pulling to idle, but to my eyes and ears it looks and sounds like he is feathering the props versus reducing throttle (possibly pulling the levers to a discing setting? And while on the topic if someone could help me understand discing, I would greatly appreciate it). Novice multi engine student here, just starting to step into some turboprop stuff, primarily in the King Air C90, just doing some research on my own time, appreciate any knowledge. Keep the shiny side up! 👍🏻🤘🏻🛩
Those Allison T-56's run at a constant speed. It's all about torque settings via blade pitch. My educated guess is that they were testing the syncrophasers. Much more comfortable in the aircraft with props running "together" in the same phase.
This is the most cordial reply ever-I thank you...I am schooled here on RUclips and you are very gracious in your reply-I am still perusing my guitar tutorials, but I apologize to you for the neg comments-I guess that I got caught up in the crap that is the normal and routine RUclips moment-you are awesome in the way you handled a neg comment and I am a jerk! I'm sure that RUclips isn't used to apologies, but YOU deserve one from me! You are amazing and a big "thank you" from a big jerk!
Xrm150 I see that most of your replies are from years ago so I was surprised that you even responded! Thank you. I really am not a troll, I just look at the video posts that are invasive as they are thrown at me-people post, videos pop up randomly, and as you are well aware of here onRUclips, there is MUCH to be replied to-YOU just happened to pop up in my search for a guitar tutorial! Do you play guitar? I do and maybe we could share a few guitar tips? Just kidding to show that I am NOT REALLY a jerk. I did notice that you do have beautiful hair, and long dark straight hair bound by pink flightline earmuffs is very attractive, Funny how people meet. Your Turn :)
That isn't me in the video. That is the Marshall doing her job on a hour tarmac. I didn't understand what you were talking about when you said "reporter". She wasn't nor was I in the flight line. I also didn't think the salad comment was really necessary either but everyone is different and likes different things. As far as responding to videos I try to respond to every comment as it's posted. You are my customer after all. Also you not knowing what is going on in the video is totally understandable since you came here via a guitar search 😀
Cool. Love these things, used to machine parts for them at Lockheed Ga. in the 80s. I assume the skirt works at the local airport. Nice vantage point. Very......"creative".
Click bait title. We all know, (well MOST of us) that the engine start was NOT the focus of camera man! As evident at 2:38 mark. BUT ,as stated by the other guy here, I also had to replay a couple times to see the aircraft! 😁 Great video guys! 👍🏿🏆🥂😀
Wonder why the taxed out with the GTC still running? They either changed the checklist or that ramp girl was a big distraction to the FE. But, on the other hand, I have actually taken off with the GTC running!

One think l luv this C130 ideal for logistic no worries about bird strike in the air safety are relief........except need air to air fuel if long hours flight of course cargo must be expensive and worse it due to pioneer aircraft and cargo compartment are limited compare 2020 aircraft .......
+Xrm150 Fair enough. May be I should be more specific. After each engine is started, they increase its rpm before starting the next engine. When all 4 engines are running, the rpm of all 4 engines is decreased to idle (@ 2:15). Why do they do this?
@@kaaitj you want the engine oil, fuel pressure, and Reduction gearbox oil similar temps. Its a part of the checklist to make sure all systems work before taxiing.
That is the engine with the generator that is primarily responsible for the main ac bus. Between that and the APU they have all electrical buses powered.
C-130's are started by Air pressure from the A.P.U. unlike an electric starter all the air is ducted thru piping to each engine, once pilot confirms good start then the air is diverted to another engine. Starting all 4 at once would make the pilots go into information overload, Airline pilots can start 2 or more engines because of the automated/computerized systems unlike a military aircraft where they do not have the luxury.
Tuan Nguyen Once they have one engine running, there is more than enough air to start the other three engines. It isn't done because as Don said information overload.
FWIW: IF "Fat Albert" is an older model C-130, it has a "Gas Turbine Compressor", or "G.T.C.", instead of an A.P.U. The G.T.C. supplied bleed air for starting, but no electricity. Electricity is provided by an "Air Turbine Motor", or "A.T.M.", mounted on the left side of the fuselage below the left wing root area. The A.T.M. is 'powered' by bleed air from the G.T.C., or from the main engines. The G.T.C. or A.P.U. does not put out enough bleed air to start more than one engine at a time. Besides that, monitoring multiple engines starting at once is a bit of a 'chore' for the aircrew....
C-130 (Hercules) is NOT called Fat Albert. That nickname references a C-5 only!! There's a BIG difference between the two planes, size-wise as well as design-wise.
