  • Thomas Brown went missing in the town of Canadian in 2016. The search was frustrated by a local sheriff's office who seemed uninterested in finding Thomas Brown, or inventing theories about what happened. However, when Thomas Brown was finally found, it raised more questions than answers.

Had so much fun making this with ya Mike! This case was handed to me by a friend living nearby the area. It’s all that town talks about evidently. Such a crazy case and it really blows your mind the more you dig into this. Thanks for having me 😊

I have been studying criminology for more than a decade now and this was for me the first time I had ever heard of an autopsy not being done on someone found dead . I would not even find myself passing through this town much less living there ; it would be great if someone that knew more would come forward . The hesitation to help is somewhat understandable due to the fact that they would fear for their life after what happened to Tom.... he does deserve justice .
If what happened to Tom had happened to someone that knows more about Tom's case than surely they would want someone to speak up for what happened to them .

Pyne Gregory was previously arrested because when he was chilling at home, someone drove by his house a couple times (and pulled into his driveway briefly). This set off Pyne, so he got into his car and followed the vehicle. He forced it over to the side of the road and pulled his gun on the driver...it was a pizza delivery driver. She was just having a tough time finding the place she needed to deliver to (this was before Google maps was a thing).
This shows that Pyne is a moron, he's prone to overreact, and he puts his nose into situations that are none of his business.
    He's the shooter.

So according to the Sheriff, he committed suicide, then took a piss outside his truck, ran off with the gays, then hid his personal belongings, shot himself again, then walked 14 miles away, then hid himself among deer antlers at 3 AM in the morning, and ended up in the same exact location of a separate drug investigation.... So the sheriff found a dead body while looking for antlers coincidentally in the middle of a drug investigation...

It's not that it "keeps getting" this way, it's that now we have the tools to know about it. This sh*t has been happening in small town, ass-backwards America for as long as cops have existed, the only difference is that now people have the means to share their stories, share their own evidence and get the support and help of others to reveal what happened. Back in the day, without the internet and cameras on phones, these corrupt cops could just go around town and threaten everyone to stay silent, and it would work. Now they don't have that power and anyone can share what they know anonymously with thousands of people.

Poor people and minorities often have their cases under investigated or ignored. Sometimes police are just negligent, and will work for the easiest solution that involves the least work. Even if the evidence doesn't justify the conclusion.
Sometimes investigators only want a case to go away. Not necessarily because they are up to foul play, but because they might know the victim's people and seek to give quick comfort.
All of these are poor excuses, and surely there are times when police are actually guilty ...but it's important to consider all the varieties of poor police work when looking into a case, because an assumption too strongly held can distract from evidence pointing in other directions.

It was popular in the twentys as a self-defense round mainly because the pistol that used it was so small. It was called a vest pocket pistol. Usually if you are found in the woods,or somewhere else, without it being just blatantly obvious what killed a person, they will do it. I get super suspicious when it doesn't happen. Healthy young man found dead in the woods, miles away from his car...no gun in hand...no note...I just can't believe it. He was found a couple weeks later, up a logging road, in his car, which had been torched and shot with several different caliber bullets, and he had been shot in the head and chest. This was labeled a suicide by the local cops. Mind you, this is a town of jus a few thousand people, and I knew several of the cops by name. The boy’s name was Todd Denny. I had been in the same class as his sisters, and knew his family. They, and the rest of the community, were devastated. I firmly believe, as do most of the residents up there, that this was a murder, either improperly investigated, or covered up by the police, for whatever reason. The deputy, who had prior issues with use of force by being too quick to pull his gun, who works for a department that is notorious for badgering teens, probably pulls him over for something petty or just to bust his balls (coming from a small town as well, cops did this all the time as they usually had nothing better to do).
He probably drove past the gas station or was sitting in his patrol car at the gas station, saw Thomas and decided to pull him over (which is why we only see a close up of his face at the station as a wider shot maybe would have shown a patrol car in the station or driving by).
After pulling him over, Thomas reaches for something (probably his license or registration or maybe while talking with the officer he notices his friend’s debit card and reaches for that). Unsure of what he’s doing, Deputy itchy trigger finger pulls his weapon and it discharges.
In a panic he calls his boss, the sheriff, (since this is a small town he has him on speed dial) to tell him of his mess up. Sheriff tells him to keep quiet and shows up to the scene. He decides to take care of it and tells Deputy itchy trigger finger to run interference while he cleans up the scene, maybe with another officer.
They clean up the scene and think that maybe it’ll go away. It doesn’t and it escalates with the involvement of the Rangers, Attorney General and FBI. So, they start dumping evidence they had taken from the scene and magically stuff that couldn’t be found before all of sudden starts turning up (oh look here’s a backpack, a cellphone, a laptop).
Knowing this may not go away till the body is found, the sheriff informs the deputy where the body is (or maybe the deputy already knew) and he tells him to turn up the body. So all of sudden the body is mysteriously found and this all occurred while out at 2am on duty searching for Deer antlers. Once the body is found they can now make up any story they like to make the case go away (suicide) and the sheriff tells his officers to shut the family up by destroying signs they had made. This helps keep not only the family quiet but the townspeople as well.

They stashed the body in the place that was fenced off and deliberately did little to no investigation and what they did do was in areas they knew nothing was at. Some time after searches had been conducted, they got rid of the evidence in places that had already been searched in the hopes it was never searched again. Once things started turning up they "discovered" the body having put it there from wherever they had it stashed, put a bow on it ASAP and tried to act like it was everyone's fault but thiers.

This was really sad. Thomas didn't commit suicide but was murdered, several ppl were involved. The other person mentioned was also murdered. I was following an individual who was sharing exactly wut had happened. The person tried getting information to TB's family, when he got too close to the truth he was given a restraining order to keep away from the original place where his body actually was. The place that he was said to have been found wasn't the actual place where he was placed after the murder, he was moved and placed there. The person on FB did all that he could to bring out all the information that he had known, but wasn't able to do so bc the sheriff's office put a stop to it with the restraining order. The end result is that it's believed that TB wanted his killers to be brought to justice which unfortunately wasn't done. Just thought I'd share.

There is footage, if you want to look into it, that shows there were a few S.O. cars around the area where Thomas was getting gas that night. I think one or more deputies were responsible for this, but I doubt it will be solved. They need to exhume his body and do an proper autopsy, even just to x-ray for a bullet. The key factor is that they're murderers, they just have no regard for human life and the main factor in killing is "can I get away with this" the motive is a strict risk vs reward, if they think the risk is low then they'll kill for the tiniest reward.

This is the human condition. Power corrupts. It is impossible not to be corrupted by power. What nobody has figured out yet (except me) is the only way to prevent corruption in government and law enforcement is to dismantle the hierarchical structure and don't put one single person in charge of anything important. Use the "buddy system" and create teams/boards/panels/committees to manage each branch.
Nathan Lewis should not have been at the top with nobody looking over his shoulder - had he been sharing the role and the power with 5 others, it is likely one of the other Sherrifs would've held him accountable for his bullschitt.

It’s been years and there been zero updates on this case. They’ve just buried it. It’s so sad because it’s such a small town where everyone knows everyone, I knew tons of people just because we played against them in sports, including Tom. Canadian always seemed like the perfect, pristine town. It has a lot of oil money so we were all jealous of how nice everything is there, we literally just thought it was the perfect town. This doesn’t just haunt the family and small town, it hit the whole panhandle. The fact they’ve just brushed it away is so frustrating.

Most cops are good people. It’s the roughly 20% that are assholes and probably less that 3% that are the total fuckups that cause major problems with people, and this is true of all races by the way, anyone who thinks just blacks or minorities face these things is brainwashed by bullshit. Small towns, however, can be very dangerous if corruption is inherent because there’s a major ego driven power trip given with the badge and essentially no consequence for negative actions.

    • @wanderinghistorian
      @wanderinghistorian 3 года назад +6

@@OCRay1 My only concern about that statistic, though, is that while only some cops are actually committing crimes, almost ALL of them are helping cover up those crimes. Just rifle through the cases and you'll find that the only times crooked cops get justice is when some high authority like the FBI investigates it. You never see a fellow cop in the same jurisdiction turn in the crooked cop. They will always protect each other, even if they know the truth. I would love to be proven wrong, and that is no joke, so if you've got such a case please share it. I'd love to regain some faith.
