I think you did a very good job on these molds. It doesn't look like it is extremely easy to do. I appreciate your willingness to put yourself out there for everything to see. I also appreciate all the tips you give as you go. Thank you for all you do to teach and help everyone.
Once again, WOW! I've been wondering if silicone caulking would work & there you are DOING IT!! Yea, thank you so much for showing it will work! I recently experimented with some 1/8" - 1/4", hard pressed felt, cut-out flower shapes in 4 styles, set of 4 coasters from Dollar Tree during Easter. I used the daisy in a pretty soft lavender color. I filled the petals with a soft gold powder mix, the center with a little darker yellow and then "painted" a light coat of the gold over the top. I put them on a silicone mat and, much to my surprise they came out perfect! Oh so much fun! The "painted" gold just gave enough for the lavender to glow a little beautifully. I love your experimenters soul. I even have come to really appreciate your willingness to show us what didn't work as well as what did...now we know too. Again, Thank you so very much. (I don't fast forward too often - only when I'm anxious about how pretty it's going to be too!)
This is perfect. I thought of buying them, but I couldn't find the size I wanted. And this video just made my life easier, I can actually make them, just from watching this. THANK YOOU
I ran out to buy two tubes of silicone and a caulking gun after watching this 😀. I live in New Delhi, India. It's no joke trying to find these in crowded little side street hardware shops where I had to keep replaying your video because no one understood a word I was saying! 😂😂😂. Don't worry, I had my mask on and sanitizer in hand. You should've been with me Julie. I'm sure you would have had quite a few laughs as I did. And......found them! Hurrah!
Hey Hilda, I can see you in my imagination & I smile, well done for getting everything you needed my friend xo I hope your project goes really really well xo I'm going to do it too but I'm not going to cut the nozzle off the long tip & will just go around several times & hopefully get more detail. Take care, be safe & stay well Sis xo
Hey Hilda what did you tell the store guy do they understand silicone tube or what you said I am from Mumbai and will check few hardware stores if you can help what you said to the guy...thanks...and stay blessed.
Julie, if you'll put that board on a turntable it'll make it easy to go around the not-so-easy areas to get to with the gun. You can get inexpensive plastic ones by Wilton, for cake decorating. I also use them when I'm painting a large piece (I'm a china painter) and can't really handle it with my hands. It makes it so much easier to just turn the wheel.
I think I saw a video of someone testing food coloring in resin. If I remember correctly, I think it made translucent colors and it did not interfere in the resin hardening. I can not remember who did it, as it was a good while back. Seeing her pull out the food color made me remember it. I have made molds using 100 percent silicone and it works quite well. I always use the silicone to seal edges of mold boxes. The mold material lets go really easily. I love watching Julie's video's -- especially when she shows us the birds in her back yard. Such a nice treat when she does that. Thank you.
What a fantastic idea. I need to make a money box plug for a mosaic piece. This method might be just what I'm looking for. Noooo, don't stop showing us. I need all the help I can get. I'm loving your videos. 😄
At Home Depot you can get a squeeze tube of silicone so you don’t have to use the caulking gun. It takes a lot of practice with the caulking gun to pour an even amount of silicone!
You have surprised me Julie U have learnt such a lot about resin since your first attempt hey. It's so good to see people putting their heart and soul into their work. Good on you.
FYI everyone, dish soap is used becausd some dish soap have glycerin in it, which prevent silicone from sticking. Instead of buying dish soap, and not having glycerin, I had shampoo with glycerin in it and used that in water. Worked like a charm.
Thanks so much. I'm living in a country in a small town where it seems very hard to find ready molds like these. Have been looking all day with no luck. An just by accident I found your video. Hurray now I can make them myself 🙏
HI TO THE LADY IN THE VLOG, I Have just Subscribed to your channel I was very impressed with the way you made your own silicone resin molds such a fab idea good on you girl 👍🤗 I have never used resin before & been looking around for Inspiration & you Certainly gave me that thank you I have gone to the bell to Receive any new tutorials you post on u tube I will be looking with much Anticipation at the end Results thank you all the best Lin in South Wales u.k ❤️👍
As for water removal... you could place the silicone mat on a large cutting board or other stiff item, then just carry the whole thing to the sink to pour out. Or, you could use a pipette or syringe to remove most of the water, then a couple paper towels or microfiber cloth to wipe up the rest. Saves on paper towels.
I’ve been looking for some silicone molds for awhile and the other day at bigW I found the mat. Was rather funny to come across this video today as it was exactly what I was planning to do with it.
Once again thx Julie. It helps to see your journey n being an Aussie it helps too, knowing I can get the same supplies when necessary ie from Bunnings...think I saw the silicone mat in Big W a few weeks ago.🤔
Hey Nola, I'm an Aussie too & I tote's agree re sourcing gear, darling Hildi in Delhi India in the first post talking about how tricky it was to find the kit, impressive!! Cheers for the heads up re Big W chick!! Take care & be well & safe mate xo
Does the silicone that you are using give a vinegar like smell when you use it. I tried it for the first time and the smell was very pungent. Just want to make sure I used the right kind.
Might want to try using thin or smaller lines of caulking then make layers to get height. I think it helps alot you have more control and can do a bit more detail. I let the first line pretty much dry then next line on top. Use a plastic spoon and water to smooth the layer seems. I have never use baby oil instead of water but I think it would work. Any way just thought for you. Thanks so much for your videos. I think you are very brave, let everyone watch you first attempt at what ever, very cool!
There a little lever you trigger at back with click. We just spit on fingers on stroke edge to smooth out especially for windows, hence some lads ended with loads of silicon caulk and mastic over jeans
Awesome job. I just made a flower coaster on a scrap piece of silicone. I've been wanting to have a set of coasters that are all in one mould. I have everything ready too.
Love this idea. Have you ever tried using a silicon egg ring as the internal edge? For getting the inner mold clean. The top edge of the coaster or bottom edge of the mold.
You're wonderful. I would like to suggest next time you cut your tip at an angle. It flows easier & will be able to control it better. Even with the smaller tip you can just move slower.
I made these last night. Thanks for the tutorial. I noticed this am that I did get some silicone inside the ring in places and some where I wiped it away yesterday but it left a smear thus taking the shine away. Do you know how I could remove them?
I love the way your geode coasters came out and I tried it but mine didn't come out so good 😥. And just so you know silicone does unfortunately stick to silicone because the tube silicone stuck to my brand new mat and ruined it. I still can't get it off! If you know how I can get it off of my mat can you please let me know. Thank you.
Use to work in glass factory and could use those nozzles the other way around on fingers like them claws of witches or something your on track how to use em
Hi, Thank you for putting this up! Had been looking for freestyle mould making process ways for days and this really helped! I have a question though, will it be possible to make deep casting (taller height) moulds with this method? For example, 1-2 inch deep moulds? By pouring silicone layer by layer maybe? Or some other way? Asking for making abstract shaped river tables. Thank you again!
This video may be 3 years old, but it's given me ideas on how to make some other molds!❤ Ty for the ideas
You would not believe how much you have helped my mental situation during this intensely stressful time. Thank you from the bottom of my soul.🤗
Thanks
They look really 👍 good

I just did this over the weekend using silicone on a large piece of plexiglass. They work great! Well done. 👍
Thank you so much for showing us how to do this and you are so calm and relaxed..I love listening to you talk.

thank you for showing us how to do this :) I really enjoyed your video.
Im going to try this way as soon as i get more silicone sheets
Yes 😉😉enjoyed very much this video. thank you for all tips to create a home made silicone molds. 💕💕
You could try putting the silicone in a piping bag and doing it that way. Would get more detailed edges
But would it come out good? I do have issues with caulking gun bad arm to hand? Thanks
You are amazing. Thank you have yelp me to get back to doing what I love. I am a fan 👏💖💖💖💖💖
I love watching your videos! I learned so much. Thank you❤️
I admire your diligence. I’ve been watching your resin journey and you are starting to see amazing results. I’m so happy for you. Never give up eh?🥰
Excellent video Julie! Look forward to your coasters....
I’ve made my own as well - pretty much exactly how you’re doing it.
Does the silicone that you are using give a vinegar like smell when you use it. I tried it for the first time and the smell was very pungent. Just want to make sure I used the right kind.
CraftsWithKripa silicone caulking does have a strong smell. Always use in ventilated area and use a respirator tht you use with epoxy
Might want to try using thin or smaller lines of caulking then make layers to get height. I think it helps alot you have more control and can do a bit more detail. Awesome job. I just made a flower coaster on a scrap piece of silicone. I've been wanting to have a set of coasters that are all in one mould. I have everything ready too.

If you want a finer line for more detail, cut the end smaller, but then after it cures a bit, you can add another layer on top.
Fabulous idea and tut! Your personality made me smile, I needed a smile today so thank you :-)

who can write what tools to do where you buy ?
hello, isn't it cheaper to buy the molds on Amazon?
@@monicarodriguez-lc8pj no not at all have you seen the price of the molds? You could buy 20 tubes of silicon for the price of one mold
