- Hello,
I wanted to add some layers for lift and change it up a bit. This is very simple and can be done at home since it is in front and you can see what your doing. The Salon Guy: • How to Layer Your Own ...
Thanks for watching!
Blessings,
Tanja
Wow finally a video of someone actually doing the cut on themselves AND you can understand what the heck is being said 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 THANK YOU!!
You did a great job ,cutting your hair. I have been cutting my own hair for 35 yrs . Everyone often say my hair always looks nice. I have saved thousands of $ on hair cuts and styles . Takecare love your channel 💕😊
Thats fantastic !
Thanks so much ... I have been cutting my hair by myself for twenty years now. Was never happy with the hairdressers' results as most of them got scissor happy. You look so pretty with your sparkling eyes.
I have to say this: after watching this and then following your link to The Salon Guy demonstration......wow!! YOUR directions are much clearer and in every way make this feel accomplishable. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us.
That’s beautiful, here in Ireland the price of getting your hair done has gone through the roof, thank you ☘️☘️☘️
How much is it? I am in Rome and it costs from 35 euros upwards to get it cut.
I wanted to thank you for this video. I had a job cut and was not completely in love with it but I watched this and followed every step and now I love my hair!!!!!!
I’ve been cutting my own hair since Covid broke and this is an absolutely excellent addition to my cut. I’m so grateful for your easy to follow explantation ❤❤
me too
You did a beautiful job. We have a very similar type of hair texture and cut. I’ve been cutting mine myself since last year when a hair stylist butchered mine. It took months to grow out and I swore that from then on I’d cut it myself. I’ve never watched a video, just observed what hair stylist’s did when they’d cut mine. Yours was very informative. Thank you
I have rarely had a haircut I wanted from a salon. I would need to recut it myself when I got home. I have been cutting it myself for a long time now.
Some here. Took me 4 months to grow out what she cut in one minute. I let my hair grow out gray and I love it during covid and have cut my hair for over 3 years.

This lady I so right about cutting your own hair. The number of times I've asked a hairdresser to only layer the front of my hair but have ended up with layers cut In everywhere are too many to remember! I too have been cutting my own hair for a few years now and I wish I'd started much sooner. This video is great at showing how you can achieve those subtle front layers that make such a difference. Thank you :)
Oh Jane I soo no what you mean! That, and thinning shears over used on my already thin hair . Thats why I love cutting my own hair.
I’m saving this video because I’m 70 and I’ve been cutting my hair myself since high school !Thank you. This is just how I love my hair.
Thank you. I followed your video, step by step, and just finished cutting my hair. It looks great! I couldn't have done this without your video.
I was so excited to find your channel today, I went right in, taking your advice, I cut layers in my grey bob. It looked so good, I searched your videos and cut my bangs. My hair looks better than it has in years of going to a salon. I subscribed and will follow for more ideas….. after all, hair grows and needs maintenance. Thank you for helping me look less like an old lady in the mirror.
Im so happy that your happy with it! You made my day!😊
Perfect. Thanks for explaining. I’ve hacked at mine & like it better cut dry. Now I know with videos I can do better. Thank you so much. I just can’t afford the price of a salon cut plus a tip. Mr Hank you. Be safe!
You're welcome!
I cant tell you how many videos I have watched I got to the point of being very confused thanks for making it simple for me.
Very impressive! Wish I had the nerve to do it, but you know, the older I get, I'm not a fanatic about my hair.
About your eyes, I had my upper and lower done in 2008. I didn't do it out of vanity, I did it because I always felt tired. Best thing I ever did!
vanity is also a good reason!
Upper bleph can interfere with vision so your insurance will pay for it. Then the oculoplastic surgeon will only charge you for the lower bleph. You will save a fortune since extra costs for operating room and anesthesia are already included.
Wow! That is beautiful ! That’s exactly what I’d like and hairdressers never understand . I’m so happy I found this. Very well explained video! Thank you! Mine has some layers but will not feather back. I might have to let it grow a bit more first. But, I’ll have something to follow later.😊
I like this video for reference. Any stylist would be horrified to see how I have been shaping and trimming my thick, grey out-of-control hair myself these days, but I’m “customizing” and I like it.
Carolyn - I think you are awesome! I love chopping at my hair. Fun and satisfying to style it myself.
Stylists may be more, accurate, but they also have their ideas...
I hope you are enjoying being creative, adding your own dimension 😊
They'd be horrified to see mine, too, but I cut it the way I like it, my style now being the same as Carolyn's. I've cut my own for decades, as does my daughter, who has long hair. Even when she was a teen, she preferred me cutting her's - makes a mother feel good! 😊
Great video for the unprofessional stylists. Thank you.
I’m no expert either, I’m 83 and every time I would get a hair cut at a shop I would come home and cry (not really) I figured I could cut my own for free, then if I don’t like it then it’s my fault. Anyway I have women stop me when I’m out shopping and they tell me how beautiful my hair is, they ask who does it…and I say”I do”.🤣
Very nice cut.
Your starting hair style really suits your face shape but your layers add just that bit of interest. Well done.
You are so brave! It was subtle enough and it turned out pretty good! Thanks for the inspiration.
Very pretty. Great job. I’m going to do this but point cut the layers. I have very long, thick, wavy hair. I’m so happy for your video. I think I can do this. I’ve done layers before but your instruction on how to leave the bottom long is the best
This is the best turorial I have seen so far! Believe me, I've watched so many!! Your hair is beautiful & I love the color. Gorgeous, soft, subtle result w/o cutting too much off. You rock! Thank you.
I cut my own hair also. I was a hairdresser in the 1980’s. I have hair loss, and I know my hair, and what it Will ( or most likely will not do). I have several wigs so if I get a little carried away in my cutting it’s ok……just wear a wig! You’re hair is very pretty, and you did such a good job cutting it.
This was really helpful! I have been cutting my own hair for years, but let all my layers grow out. I never thought of this technique! Thanks much!
The best tutorial on long layers! I love my Bob even more now. Started cutting my own hair a couple of years ago. Regarding drooping eyelids...I had surgery done on mine and now love my eyes! Mine were getting so bad that I couldn't see well. Go for a consult!
Did same surgery and love it. Post Graves’ disease and had it done at 61. 70 now and still so happy I did it. Wish I had done it earlier. (Never anything before or after: I’m otherwise aging gracefully) Was shocked at the field of vision I regained……..and don’t look tired or crabby anymore 😊
Great job! I will likely try it. My hair has changed consistency since menopause. Was straight, now, wavy. Loved seeing technique. Thanks
@kdyooper28 would that be covered by insurance?
Super!
I have heard many good things about lid surgery.
I can imagine your field of vision improves greatly. So glad to hear the success of the procedure .
Very nicely done. You look beautiful & I LOVE your glasses!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! Grabbed my poultry shears (which have never seen a chicken in their life!) and cut layers as per your instructions! WOW! What a nice difference….more volume and style!❤️❤️❤️
Наконец то это видео лучше и понятнее других,все так просто и замечательно,вы лучший учитель.
So glad it was helpful
I learnt how to shape & cut on an angle when the head rounds. Thank you. Great informative video.
Very good tutorial. I might even try this. I'm laughing because I was looking at your eyes to see if they are getting heavy because mine are and I have been noticing this for awhile now and it's bringing me down. You mentioning this made me feel I am not alone in this. Thank you.
Your hair cut turned out really nice, great job. I cut my own hair as well, I got sick of paying over $100. dollars plus tips just to get a hair cut.
Who pays a hundred or more for hair cut!😂
That made a big difference! And I feel your pain. Everything is drooping on me.
I have the exact bob. I might have to try this. Saving this video for sure! Thanks.
So brave cutting your own hair! One thing I would recommend is to take a small amount of the centre top part that was cut and use it as a guide for the length on the sides. Just a suggestion, rather than guessing on the measurement.
Nice job! I started cutting my own hair when Covid 19 started and don’t plan to stop. I used to come home after a professional cut and “fix” what the stylist did. Now, I just wait a few weeks and recut my hair so it never really gets too out of control.
Thank you so much! I searched for how to feather cut hair and found you! I followed your instructions to the T and I am absolutely in love with how my hair turned out!
Thank you so much! This helped me so much. I tried it and it's quick and easy. I have prayed that the Lord would help me with my hair. I don't like to go to a stylist I've been cutting it myself. Again thank you for sharing and have a blessed evening.
Wonderful!
Good job! I haven’t been to a salon in a long time. Been chopping it myself & not too happy with it. I’m going to try what you did cutting it dry. Makes sense.
Those layers really soften your face. Much more attractive. I’m getting my scissors out today.
great haircut and it looks youthful and good on you. thanks again for the tips. this is a perfect cut for me right now because i have a bob i cut myself and just want a little lighter look. i over cut my hair, too many layers, in december and am growing it out. you know how that goes. the tip about cutting a hole in front was a great tip cuz i usually do that. great sectioning the hair tips. btw, your haircuts always look professionally done.
good job!! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I AM "SICK" OF PAYING $100'S OF DOLLARS FOR HAIRCUTS!!!!!!!!!!!
...plus tip....mamy women are getting smart and cutting their own hair....I cut& color my own hair& groom my dogs...
I’ve been cutting my own for about 6 years and I’m never going back. My biggest tip would be always cut not enough to start with. you can go back in later and nip more off. I’ve taken 2-3 days to cut mine a little at a time until I’ve gotten it just right. It just takes practice. I couldn’t cut everyone’s hair but I can cut my own better than any pro. Worked out so good I’m now doing my 27 yr old daughter’s hair too. Layers even.
You probably didn’t notice but her right/viewers left side, is longer. That’s why you pay for a proper hair cut.
Bob hair cuts are not meant to cuff back and feather. Geez… you have no idea how much thicker your hair could look with a great hair cut.
I only pay $40 for a haircut..
Amazing how something that simple makes suck a big difference ‼️♥️
Wish I had watched this before I cut my bob into a pixie. I like the pixie but doing what you did would have satisfied what I wanted. Thank you for sharing. It looks great ❤️
Your hair will grow out soon. I color my own hair with L'Oreal and I get a lot of complements. I got tired of paying for hair cuts and I'm letting it grow longer for the winter months
You are brave! I could never be so brave as to even attempt to cut my hair. When I try to even my bangs, I make a mess sometimes. It looks good!
Excellent! Beautiful. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do this for myself.
You're very welcome 🌷
It does look good styled with the clips holding those pieces back. The cut looks great. Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
I'm going to try this. Thank you for one of the best hair videos I've seen
Looks great! I love layered hair. It makes my slender face fuller. Thanks for the tips. I cut my own hair but it’s very difficult cutting the back.
I’m the same, I’m not as bendy as I used to be and cutting the back is a nightmare.
Nice work! Thank you! You are a gem
You did a really nice job. My hairdresser definitely created the hole you were mentioning.
Well done! Great tips, will do this- I’ve trimmed a little, but your video gives me confidence to continue. Thanks!
Very nice layers! Thanks for sharing this! 💯 ❣️
Perfect! I've been trying to achieve this lightly layered look for years and no hair stylist understands how to do it without cutting my length in front which I'm very attached to because I wear my hair up most of the time. When I wear it down I have the dog ears triangle looks which I HATE! So I'm going to try this - thank you!
I just did it!
Worked beautifully!!! Thanks
You are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your class. I love this! TD❤
Thhis is what I want. I realized that what I hate about a bob is the straightness and bulk at the nape. I like a little more roll back on the sides bc I had naturally wavy hair.
New subscriber here. Wonderful video! Easy to understand explanations. Very much appreciate this information. You’re hair and you are lovely!
You are the cutest. So relaxing to watch your video. Great tutorial for cutting hair. Keep teaches stuff. Absolutely loved watching you. 👏🏻👏🏻
My hair is similar to yours.
I love the thicker layer wave look .
I will try it ❤
I’m going to try this as soon as it’s long enough. Good job!
Thank you for doing this! This is exactly what I was looking for to put subtle layers into my gray hair!
Very nice. I'm going to try that! Have started cutting my hair about a year ago and looks just as nice. LOL
You can do it!
You did a wonderful job. I am going to try this. Thank you x
I just subscribed. You are very calming to watch. You’re a great teacher!😊
This looks amazing. Thank you for posting this video, I am definitely keeping it in a safe place for future reference. I got so frustrated with my long, past my shoulders, hair two years ago I took it all off, to 8mm. Since then I’ve been trying to grow it back to about the same length you have, but as soon as the top layers reach the “I can’t see where I’m going” length, I cave in and cut my hair again 🤦🏼♀️ I’m determined this year will be different, I will get my Bob haircut, and when I do I’m going to try layers like you have just shown us here in this video.
This is a great hair reference for cutting. I have hair just like yours and I have to be very careful how much I cut off.
OMGOSH!! You did a FABULOUS job and it turned out Perfectly and WOW what a difference it made in brightening your face and EYES!! You look Beautiful! I’ve just subscribed!! 💕
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful, and you are not sagging. And thank you for your videos. I too cut my own hair but my husband gets upset 😊.
It looks so simple to do and you made it look easy. Thanks bunches. Loved the look too.
Wow, it looks great! Good job.
You hold your shears like a professional! Most people use their thumb and middle finger when they use shears!
Looks nice and easily understood instructions. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh I love simple! You did an awesome job!
This is perfect. Just what I needed to see. Thank you.😊
Great Job, THANK YOU
Great video so informative and very easy to follow. Thank you.
Great video, thank you!
I have cut my own hair at home ever since 2020. And color it. Saves me 140.00 I was paying at a salon.
You got nice straight hair, I use a flowbee, works great.
You did good…I LOVED your cut AND your tutorial! ❤
This is perfect, I'm going to cut a bit of my mom's hair. Thank you
genius. loved the video. you are beautiful and smart how you did your haircut so perfectly.
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for the detailed explanation and demonstration. You make it look so easy!! Your hair looks great and you are so nice!!! ❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much!! 😊❤ Maybe you can do a quickie on how you trim your bangs? They’re perfect!..and suit that cut so perfectly!
Thanks for sharing. Your hair looks great and it’s such a great tip. I’m doing it tomorrow! 👍👋
That looks so pretty and makes so much sense! I love the idea of leaving the weight around the face. I want some layers but was afraid of having stringy strands around the bottom (no one wants a stringy bottom 🙂). Your gray hair looks healthy and is a fun style! I think I can totally do this! Thank you! Also, BTW - I'm with you on the sagging, haha! Thanks for sharing that.
I love this, great job
Very nice tutorial! Your hair looks Amazing. This is such a perfect tutorial and very well explained. 🥰💞👍🏻
Thank you so much 🤗
Very nice job! I thought it looked great before but you did a really good job! It looks very pretty!!
Thank you! 😊
Great video! Thanks for showing us that we, too, can be brave enough to cut our own hair!
Absolutely!!
Thank you. Great explanation.
Hi you did a great job, I’ve tried cutting my hair during Covid. But did not make a good job like yourself but realise I was doing it wrong. 😂your really brave
WOW You did a great job..!
Wow you are brave, looks so professional and good! :)
I cut six inches of my hair last month it was long and white and felt it was doing me no favours at all. It’s now much easier to handle and I want to do what this lady has done to the sides to lift it a little good video thanks.
Looks great
Good job. Softer instead of a strait edge. Well done.🌟😄👍
Thank you!
Thank u!! I will try this in the future once my hair grows out. The last cut I had was awful and she took a razor to my curly black & grey hair. 😬
This gave me a Panic Attack - BUT THIS LOOKS SO GOOD!
YOU DID GREAT! My hair is mid-length of my Back and I I WISH
I could get someone to do these kinds of layers on the Sides!
Your hair always looks so nice healthy could you talk about how you cut your bangs
Hi
I did a video on that awhile ago.
