Honestly, Zidane was always better for country than he was for club. Iniesta was great for both. People don't talk enough about how disappointing the results were for the absurdly stacked Real Madrid side Zidane was on. He was emblematic of the passive, practically casual approach that 'Galacticos' side had. Zidane never actually performed poorly, but he would go multi-game intervals kind of being MIA on the pitch in terms of making impact plays. Iniesta, in contrast, was a machine of reliable contribution for Barca and Spain.
As a midfielder and more consistent player:- Iniesta But as a overall more complete player:- Zidane!! Iniesta is the only player in history to win MOTM in UCL final Euro final and WC final!!
Iniesta was just a Barca player. He never challenges himself in other leagues. He always needed his sidekick Xavi, Zidane didn’t need a buddy at his side. Iniesta was amazing, but please…he’s a kid compared to Zizou
Iniesta wasn't anymore consisent than Zidane was. Midfielders are rated differently today than they were in Zidane's era. Zidane also had a much higher peak.
Iniesta was very good but i take Zidane every time. Zidane played and shined in a tougher era. He played in the 90s before the tackling rule got changed in 1998, faced some really tough defender. In iniestas prime tacklings were restricted even further when it went from hitting ball first then player = no foul to hitting Ball first then player = foul. Each slight touch got punished, using physical body was nearly impossible so of course its easier to run/dribble through 4 opponent than trying to do it when all 4 defender come at you with sliding aggressive tacklings. Both r great but i will always prefer former footballer than the ones from mid 00s onwards since they got it easier because some Important rules were changed so they could shine
@@jamespye2936 why were they fast in iniestas time? Because the resistance was lower. U can only be as fast as the opponent allows it. If defender cant tackle anymore, of course u r faster than someone who has to Deal with tough tacklings and bodychecks. Player were always fast, Bican in the 1930s was as fast as Mbappe. The rules and conditions decide how fast a player can be. Today player r more athletic in average but that is for their body to handle more matches. They cant User their physicality against their opponents. On the other side u have today also many skinny and physical weak player as Müller, Neymar, Sterling, modric and many more. They all r able to compete physically. Why? Because todays era is that soft that they dont need to be afraid of being injured by the opponent. Most injuries player get r Because of the amount of matches and the physical stress.
This is like Maradona and Messi. Maradona and Zidane are in their roles probably the epitome of what magic is but they were way less consistent than their rivals in this debate, Messi and Iniesta. Consistency is probably the most second valuable facet a player can have just behind individual talent/quality, people forget about this so much it hurts. The high quality and consistency Messi and Iniesta had destroys any argument if we talk about who is the best player in them roles as a WHOLE. If we talk about primes that's a different debate, but even then they are all so so close.
peak to peak theres nothing that iniesta has that zidane did not. zidane had the first touch, close control, movement on and off the ball, the dribbling, could beat his player also, but on top of that zidane could score the type of goals that iniesta could not, he also possess the flair that iniesta couldn't while having similar quality passes, at their peak zidane was just more of iniesta, what i can say is iniesta was however more consistent in his level of performances, like when zidane is on, his giving you 11/10 performances which captivates you and leaves you in awe, but when hes off you can get a 6/10 or prolly a low 5/10 whereas iniesta even if not flying all the time your guaranteed 6.5-7/10 plus at his best hes an 8 or 9 easy, so i would give the consistency to iniesta, plus you can say iniesta passing is consistently better though zizou has better ones. when they are at their peak, zizou is way better to me, its only when zizou is off where iniesta is better yet not by a lot, it really depends on what you want from your player.
Iniesta was an excellent midfielder. Zidane was one of the most complete players: passing, speed, power, headers, shots, defensive skills. I think Iniesta was less skilled in defense, shots and headgame.
One thing that will always make me say zidane is he was the focal point in every team I played in. Iniesta was never he focal point since he always had Messi and/or Xavi in the lineup.
Listen, I agree with you Zidane was better than iniesta, but don't make that argument, because Zidane also played with world class players alongside in Juve, or Madrid, like Brazilian Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Viera, nedved , ets they both played alongside with legends
@@AtlasAtlas-r6s yeah I agree on that too, but that was also kind of my point. I’m not saying zidane had better or worse teammates. He has his world cup and ucl finals and here and there overall he’s more loved by gloryhunter madrid fans who never watched him play but want to act like they have insane ball knowledge. Anyone who actually watched matches game to game knows how unfathomably clear iniesta was
Watched Zidane, even his pre-Madrid years, Zidane was capable of controlling a game in a way Iniesta couldn't singularly. Both are great at what they do, but Zidane edges it. You talk about Zidane being a moments player, but Zidane was a Top 10 player for a decade, Iniesta had a much smaller prime
😂😂😂Iniesta is nowhere near Zidane. Iniesta is just a Barca player who never took risks to challenge himself elsewhere. He also ALWAYS needed Xavi at his side. Wasn’t even a Leader. @@sonicwithglasses131 You're actually doing a disservice to Iniesta by including 2015-17 in his prime, he barely played 20+ games on an average and averaged 3 G+As, plus being phased out of Barca's first team, not winning any individual recognition as well as not being considered a Top 10 player by most informed sources. Zidane never dropped off from being a key member of the team or a World Class player from arguably 96 till his retirement in 06
This was closer than people think. Ofcourse what zidane did was something not anyone could do. @@z.m.d.t Iniesta relies a lot on the Barcelona factor, on all the globalization and media that is in the hands of generation Z and a little of Y; in addition to the issue of his moment with Spain. This all creates a certain GRANDE around Iniesta, to the point of comparing him to Zidane who is technically much superior and much more artistic. The fact that they compare him to Zidane shows that Barcelona fans have poetic license to say such absurdities. I would say that Iniesta is the most replaceable player in that midfield for Barcelona and the Spanish national team; players like Pogba, Deco, David Villa, Ozil; they would play an even better role than Iniesta. Iniesta is much admired for his skill and elegance, but there were many midfielders who were better pleasing to the eye. Iniesta stands out for appearing in a country where these characteristics are scarce, but even "his" croqueta was much better performed by Laudrup (who is his idol and who is technically much superior to Iniesta). His midfield dominance is much inferior to that of Xavi, who was his teammate. Personally, I believe that there were other midfielders to mention who had better long and short passes, vision of the game, game control, rhythm control, better passing in the final third, better defensive contribution, better at finding spaces and continuing plays, better also in making transition. Names to mention such as: Laudrup, Rui Costa, Deco, Glen Hoddle, Scholes, Riquelme, Verón...
Zidane is way better. Iniesta played with the best team an in the history and managed by the most intelligent man in the football. Zidane alone stopped Spain with xavi iniesta and Brazil with r9 rony kaka ... Zidane is the boss.
Zidane single-handedly led France to a World Cup and Euro triumphs + another World Cup final. He had the aura of a leader. He was at least 50% of the teams he played for. Iniesta was brilliant, but he was part of a phenomenal generation of players. Zidane never had a midfield partner like Xavi or genius number 10 like Messi for teammates.
@@Ilfenomeno-sp2hkThis is probably the most ridiculous casual take I've read all week. Since when is going from Juventus to Real Madrid considered "taking risks"? Messi, Xavi & Iniesta were all multiple times UCL and continental champions, all were international MVPs at least once (4 times on major tournaments in Messi's case, which is the record in football's history) and were World Cup champions. They're the last players who have anything to prove to you or anyone else. If anything, in terms of achievements as a player Iniesta is certainly clear of Zidane, even if to me at least their individual level is extremely close.
No minus the final Zidane was shit at every single game at the 98 WC. You can’t say Iniesta is carried by great teammates when Zidane played with them as well, he literally played with Del Piero and the Golaticos. I hate when people compare players superficially and not their actual attributes, in terms of honours Iniesta wins by a landslide. This is despite Zizou and Iniesta being quite equal in terms of talent.
@@acaerA1F Zidane won FIFA Player of the Year award 3 times (1998, 2000 and 2003). Since 1991 only Messi and Cristiano has won it more. Edit: Del Piero was nowhere near Messi.
@@LNLBD Never said Del Piero was better than Messi, not sure what point your making there. Secondly just because Zidane won those individual honours does not accurately reflect the level he was as a player, because for majority of that five year stretch R9 was consistently injured, the actual best player of that generation. Also Zidane’s form is notoriously patchy, and that to me is a big factor because when you compare him to other greats like Laudrup, Zico, Cruyff, Maradona and Iniesta all of them were more consistent performers over the course of their careers and Zidane as a talent is not good enough to outweigh that. Zidane never had to compete against a Messi or CR7 type figure for a decade straight, if he did he would have the same number of individual awards as Iniesta. These arguments are all superficial and talk more about legacies than individual attributes. So what attributes did Zidane have that made him “a MUCH better player than Iniesta” in your opinion?

People don't talk enough about how disappointing the results were for the absurdly stacked Real Madrid side Zidane was on. He was emblematic of the passive, practically casual approach that 'Galacticos' side had. Zidane never actually performed poorly, but he would go multi-game intervals kind of being MIA on the pitch in terms of making impact plays.
Iniesta, in contrast, was a machine of reliable contribution for Barca and Spain.
As a midfielder and more consistent player:- Iniesta
But as a overall more complete player:- Zidane!!
Iniesta is the only player in history to win MOTM in UCL final Euro final and WC final!!
Hes a cam i mean ofc his chances of getting potm is higher
Iniesta was just a Barca player.
He never challenges himself in other leagues. He always needed his sidekick Xavi, Zidane didn’t need a buddy at his side.
Iniesta was amazing, but please…he’s a kid compared to Zizou
Iniesta wasn't anymore consisent than Zidane was. Midfielders are rated differently today than they were in Zidane's era. Zidane also had a much higher peak.
@@Ilfenomeno-sp2hk he better than Zidane
@@architchaudhary1285 Zidane was inconsistent as hell
Zidane 😍
Iniesta was very good but i take Zidane every time. Zidane played and shined in a tougher era.
He played in the 90s before the tackling rule got changed in 1998, faced some really tough defender. In iniestas prime tacklings were restricted even further when it went from hitting ball first then player = no foul to hitting Ball first then player = foul. Each slight touch got punished, using physical body was nearly impossible so of course its easier to run/dribble through 4 opponent than trying to do it when all 4 defender come at you with sliding aggressive tacklings.
Both r great but i will always prefer former footballer than the ones from mid 00s onwards since they got it easier because some Important rules were changed so they could shine
iniesta also played against faster more physical players.
@@jamespye2936iniesta was just a Barca player. And always needed Xavi at his side.
No wrong answers. It just depends on how you want your team to play. I prefer Iniesta, but Zidane is, of course, a great atacking midfielder.
peak to peak theres nothing that iniesta has that zidane did not. zidane had the first touch, close control, movement on and off the ball, the dribbling, could beat his player also, but on top of that zidane could score the type of goals that iniesta could not, he also possess the flair that iniesta couldn't while having similar quality passes, at their peak zidane was just more of iniesta, what i can say is iniesta was however more consistent in his level of performances, like when zidane is on, his giving you 11/10 performances which captivates you and leaves you in awe, but when hes off you can get a 6/10 or prolly a low 5/10 whereas iniesta even if not flying all the time your guaranteed 6.5-7/10 plus at his best hes an 8 or 9 easy, so i would give the consistency to iniesta, plus you can say iniesta passing is consistently better though zizou has better ones. when they are at their peak, zizou is way better to me, its only when zizou is off where iniesta is better yet not by a lot, it really depends on what you want from your player.
That’s because your refined eye is weak, but that doesn’t surprise me, most people on this earth are
zidane hadn't this kind of world class assist like iniesta
Iniesta was an excellent midfielder. Zidane was one of the most complete players: passing, speed, power, headers, shots, defensive skills. I think Iniesta was less skilled in defense, shots and headgame.
iniesta
my best midfielder
One thing that will always make me say zidane is he was the focal point in every team I played in. Iniesta was never he focal point since he always had Messi and/or Xavi in the lineup.
And do you think Zidane would be the focal point in a team with Messi !?
@@emryselmago no, nobody would be that. But he would be the focal point in that Spain team or if Messi wasn’t playing
Listen, I agree with you Zidane was better than iniesta, but don't make that argument, because Zidane also played with world class players alongside in Juve, or Madrid, like
Brazilian Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Viera, nedved , ets they both played alongside with legends
@@AtlasAtlas-r6s yeah I agree on that too, but that was also kind of my point. I’m not saying zidane had better or worse teammates. I’m just saying when iniesta had Xavi or fabregas (forget Messi here) then those guys were above him in dictating the play. But when zidane had world class players, he still was the focal point, because non was above him.
@@occelatus1063 true, Zidane was really something else
Zidane had some outstanding performances but Iniesta was far more consistent. When Zidane was bad he was really really bad.
Galacticos were an average team after makalele and hierro left zidane played in a team that was not built to win the CL at all that's what peoples don't get about zidane in madrid.
2003 2004 central defense was pavon helguera , celades in defensive midfielder, figo was finished, ronaldo on one leg , beckam playing defensive midfielder , put cr7 and messi in that team they win nothing .
To compare zidane and iniesta you should imagine zidane playing with messi xavi busquets dani alves pique puyol david villa pedro and neymar. Zidane never played in such a team .
Zidane is good but he was a moments player, he’d do special things but game to game sometimes he ghosted for galaticos madrid.

His ucl final goal, him destroying prime brazil, slipping past opponents with his elegance each time he played.
But iniesta is perhaps one of the only midfielders who can be compared to zidane. The legacy of prime barca, iniesta played a major role to it. The prime spain,it was excellent because of the midfield trio being iniesta-sergio-Xavi. His wc final goal, his beautiful passes. The only time spain and barca were the absolute best in the world, iniesta had probably the biggest role behind it. Iniesta relies a lot on the Barcelona factor, on all the globalization and media that is in the hands of generation Z and a little of Y; in addition to the issue of his moment with Spain.

Zidane is better
Zidane single-handedly led France to a World Cup and Euro triumphs + another World Cup final. He had the aura of a leader. He was at least 50% of the teams he played for. Iniesta was brilliant, but he was part of a phenomenal generation of players. Zidane never had a midfield partner like Xavi or genius number 10 like Messi for teammates.
That’s EXACTLY what I said.
Iniesta, just like Xavi and Messi, were just Barca players who never took risks challenging themselves in other leagues.
As brilliant as Iniesta was, he was never the best player in his teams (with the exception of UEFA EURO 2012). I have watched them both and, for me, Zidane was much better player.
I think Iniesta will give you an 8/10 more consistently than Zidane, however when Zidane was on he can take over the game like no other midfielder. Both two of the greatest ever. For me I give it to Zidane
