- These commercials aired on NBC on March 27th, 1983
1. Pepsi
2. WJKS-TV Weather Forecast (Thanks Rufus)
3. NBC Sunday Night At The Movies Intro: "King Kong" (The version here was an extended cut of the 1976 remake, though the broadcast here was cut down from the original extended TV version that aired over two nights in 1978. Shout Factory actually just released a blu-ray of the film featuring this cut: www.shoutfacto...)
4. Diet Pepsi (Not suggestive at all)
5. Kodak Kodacolor 400 Speed Films
6. Prego (Screw your "family traditions", Dad! We're buying our stuff in a jar!)
7. 1983 Mazda GLC Sedan
8. Wendy's
9. Federal Express (I'm pretty sure that the "Weiner" guy here is Marc Weiner, the star of Nickelodeon's "Weinerville" show from the mid 90s)
10. Fresh Start (I love these passive aggressive arguments over laundry detergent)
11. Juicy Fruit (This jingle does not move me)
12. NBC Sunday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
13. Promo for "Love, Sidney" and Family Ties" ("Love, Sidney" was the first American TV show to feature a gay main character, though this fact was heavily downplayed to avoid controversy. It was in its second season here and wasn't renewed for a third. "Family Ties" was still in its first season and would obviously go on to become a huge hit for NBC)
14. Jacksonville Big Five Chevy Savings Centers
15. Carnation Instant Breakfast (That packaging at 7:02 looks like its from the mid 60's)
16. Promo for "The Rockford Files"
17. NBC Sunday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
18. Datsun Turbo-ZX (7:18 this stunt looks a bit dangerous)
19. Vectrex Arcade System (Awesome! This actually looks pretty neat and high tech for the time, but I think it would have worked better if the Monitor were a tad larger)
20. Flintstones Complete Vitamins
21. Energizer Batteries
22. Promo for "The Jeffersons"
23. Gillette Atra Razor
24. Ritz Crackers
25. Sun Light
26. Close Up Toothpaste
27. NBC Sunday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
28. Promo for "Remington Steele" and "The A-Team" (I hope Mr. T and Peirce Brosnan eventually settled their differences)
29. NBC News Capsule
a. Private plane crashes in Virginia
b. Olympic Committee rules that Athletes can be paid to compete
30. Lipton Cup-A-Soup (I'm not sure if the skip at 12:41 is a recording error or a problem with the original ad)
c. Gasoline Prices (Gas prices went down sharply throughout the rest of the 80's, and were around or under a dollar per gallon by the end of the decade)
31. Pepsi
32. Promo for "None But The Lonely Heart"
33. NBC Sunday Night At The Movies Commercial Bumper
Interesting juxtaposition of the Pepsi ads. The second one (with the little kids and the kittens) was so wholesome. Adorable, even.
Not a single lawyer, prescription or car insurance commercial. The good old days.
A lot of the music, both for bumpers, intros as well as commercials, was very jazzy still. That was something that typified tv music in the 70s.
These are so awesome!
I was a teenager in the 80's and I can attest that when we wanted to have a good time, all we needed was Pepsi and Juicy Fruit gum.
I Really wanna Go back like NOW!!! Totally Different Night and Day Planet from what we have now.
Yep ! I know every generation thinks theirs was better but the 80s were a GREAT time, we had friends, parties and everyone looked p
Out for each other at those parties. We went Roller Skating, ice skating, to the malls to shop. We had a sense of family. People were JUST different. I miss the genuine and raw music that was put out. No Flippin auto tune, they were just talented . The crap polluting the airwaves today is a joke. I feel like someone flipped a switch Into this awful existence We are living in today. Our country is crying out to be saved . Wrong is right, up is down , right is left. It is all just so efffed up right now. Let me know when you build that DeLorean, call me and I will ride shotgun and we can blow this popsicle stand !!
I’m off today (I got my second shot yesterday) and this is such a gift! Thank you!
Hope you're doing well! Got my second shot May 1st, and luckily, I only had a sore arm for part of the day, so it wasn't bad at all. First shot was worse for me, but I know people react differently.
Hope everything goes well for you.
@@george.s.8491 thank you! So far, just very tired.
My second shot is tomorrow!
@@yusakug thank you! Sorry, I just now saw this.
I think you're right that dude does look like the guy from weinerville I'm fairly certain I saw him in a promo in one of these compilations recently. Also man Vectrex was a neat idea, I only saw one in my pre-teen years I think a friend had one.
Vectrexes were, and are, awesome.
I've played a Vectrex when I was 9 or 10 the screen was pretty small but I don't think a standard TV could pull off the vectored graphics it used. You also received overlays with the game to put on the screen and add some details. It felt really cool to play it but I'm not surprised it didn't catch on.
Pepsi-theyll need a lot of detergent to clean their clothes afterwards
King Kong-imagine if he fought Godzilla in this version
Diet Pepsi -ad shouldve aired after 11:30 PM
Mazda GLC Sedan-Some say he drives Mazdas for a living. He prefers Porsches. All we know is, he's called The Stig.
Carnation Instant Breakfast- lol @ the daughter's expression in the freeze frame
Vectrex Arcade System-loved the racing game
Close Up Toothpaste-looks like we have a Love Connection
Remington Steele-him and Laura meeting the A-Team wouldve made a interesting crossover
Great times!
I noticed how they were hyping up Jessica Lange during the King Kong promo because she was very popular around this time starring in Tootsie and Frances being Oscar nominated for both roles.
7:31 Right before Datsun changed to Nissan. I remember that commercial coming out when they changed to Nissan. I was 6.
Yellow Wendys will always be the superior Wendys
I forget the place exists now. Back then it also had those 1900-era Sears catalog images on the tables and counter.
I also believe that is Mark Weiner of Weinerville how cool is that?
But yeah that Juicy Fruit jingle not nearly as memorable. At least we got a rare ad for Vectrex!
7:17 - Wouldn't be my choice to park a car...
5:20 - I can think of a lot of words to describe Juicy Fruit gum. "Fascinating" is not one of them.
I live for these over-blown car commercials hyping the bajeezus for the unabashedly junky lemons and clunkers that ravaged the early 80's.
Never dawned on me but you're right. We had three cars at any given time. Both my parents worked & 5 kids. Everything from a Cadillac to a VW Rabbit. Feel like something was always being serviced. Ugh
