I have a story about Mindfield. I emailed someone from AWS asking where the premier was going to be and they said in downtown Manhattan. They said feel free to show up and attend. Me and a friend went from Long Island to Manhattan on cold February night and it turned out you needed tickets so we had to go home without seeing the premier. I emailed the same person from AWS a few days later saying what happened and they felt so bad they sent me the Mindfield DVD and an AWS deck that's hung on my wall as we speak.
Man this is a trip back to my formative years. Sneaking into the local reservoir on a sunny summer day in 2010, blasting Animal Collective and drinking beers like only teenagers know how. Life feels a lot less colorful now.
The mini-disc part was interesting. I had a friend who'd bring his with the wide mic to most shows in the late 90s and record them from the audience. The recording quality was surprisingly good.
the first time i heard animal collective was on the digital skateboarding IMAGINE my favorite skateboarding video when was a kid the intro is epic and give me a ton of nostalgia i miss those days
I saw them at Melt! Festival in 2009 wearing Mindfield Shirts on stage. It was my first time seeing them live. I hope they'll come to Germany again soon, but it seems tricky.
This was great lads, please explore the relationship between music and skateboarding more! I’ve been touring in bands for years at this point and it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t discover so much music through skate videos, such an important part of my life and I can imagine many others feel the same!
What he said about skateboarding surviving all these years is so accurate. It’s 2024 and a vast majority of us are still obsessed with a plank of wood nailed to a roller skate.
I wouldn't be into half the shit im into if it wasn't for skate videos. Anybody have some examples of artists or bands you've found through skate videos that you've become massive fans of?
Mindfield and animal collective changed my approach and vision about skateboarding. Also I got lucky when I saw them in a show in San Francisco like ten years ago 👏🏽👏🏽
back in the days, I was get into skateboarding again by Mind Field video, I remember I watched the Heath part first, but still the part that still mesmerize me to this day is Jake and AVE part.
This is dope, more good music in skate videos. I wonder if next you could interview somebody from David Bowies estate? It seems like they are in a similar mindset when it comes to music rights for skate videos and movies
Shoutout to MJ for using Five Years in Pretty Sweet. I was in 8th grade and though i didn’t fully get into Bowie until i was 20, that song was the seed.
When Mindfield came out i was only skating for less than 2 years. I already watched classics before Mindfield like Baker 3, Fully flared and more. But when Mindfield came out and I watched it, everything changed for me in skateboarding. I realized that skateboarding is more of an art form. The art direction, style, visuals/fillers and edit of this whole video really activated some shit in my brain to look at things differently which really made this video TOP NOTCH TO THIS DAY!

There have been so many bands and songs I got into because of skate videos. But even skate videos couldn’t make this band good.
They suck now but everything up to their visual album ODDSAC is good
@@ambientrealms_ Highly disagree. Isn't It Now? was really good, imo
Dude stop moving your hands all over when talking
