I agree with your methods. In preparation I like to type up a script and use when practicing and fine tuning, in this process I get prepared. Then I go up to present with a minimal outline , to make sure I haven't forgotten anything and keep me on track. This method allows me to let Holy Spirit move me in real time. And with time I am shifting to less and less notes.
Thank you very much. This is very informative. I try to have them both. I realize that I will stick to one for the rest of the service. Both have time and space.
I write everything out completely. But then dial it back and go off script where possible or summerize. I cross reference scripture alot and it has to be correct. I also take any print out of strongs definitions or auxilary research with me if its relevant and it all goes in a folder for later reference if needed. There is nothing wrong with pausing in the moment and finding something important if your memory fails you. Most sermons are on point for 45minutes even with all that which is the deadline.
Another dynamic on this for me is that I am bilingual leaning way more towards English however I preach in Spanish. I read, study, etc in English and even make my notes in English then preach in Spanish
I am using notes trying to use less . Don’t want to lose my thought. Is something I try not to do since I really new to bringing a message to the congregation
I use a few notes to help with the nervous energy in the beginning but once I'm narrowing my point, I'm free of the notes! I may glance at my notes at the end to make sure I'm covering everything as I close the sermon.
@@roderickthomas5730 Makes sense. With some people, more reps ease the nerves but that's certainly not everyone. Preaching that amount of times each year can be tough. Kudos to you for being intentional at developing your craft at it.
@@PreachandLead I actually think the nerves are a good thing! I never want to get to the point where I’m so comfortable that I think that I’ve arrived. I’m an ex basketball player and coach and I can’t think of a game that I didn’t or don’t get a little nervous. Thank you for your content! It’s very helpful!
I have two questions for you. First, what is your Sunday morning attendance? Secondly, are you the kind of Church of Christ that believes your denomination are the only ones going to Heaven?
Hey Cheryl I would love to see your format of bullet point I’ve been preaching for 10 years, mainly manuscripts but I’m trying to find ways to wean myself away with minimal notes as possible but haven’t found a route that best suits me Thanks
What do you take with you when you preach?
If I'm outside (covid restrictions) only printed notes on a half sheet. No podium.
Inside just my tablet. I change my own slides using Proclaim

Notes keep me on point
Thank you for making these videos
Thanks for watching and commenting, Dan!

I would imagine that this is a very real challenge. How well do you feel your approach is working?

That's great, Roderick! How long have you been preaching?
@@PreachandLead a little over ten years! I’m also a musicians so I preach sparingly. Probably about 3-5 times a year. I’m 40 years old.

For sure. There are good nerves and overwhelming nerves. Sounds like you’ve got the good ones!
Do you have any videos of you preaching??
Yes, the link is in the video description.
I have two questions for you. First, what is your Sunday morning attendance? Secondly, are you the kind of Church of Christ that believes your denomination are the only ones going to Heaven?
No, not that church of Christ (Independent Christian Church/CoC to be specific). We’re a few hundred a couple years into a revitalization.
I use bullet points. Kinda right in the middle
That's great. How many pages worth of bullet points?
@@PreachandLead I keep it to one page so that I can also do a print out for folks who want something to write notes on.
