      I appreciate the message brotha! Really nice to hear that especially on this one where I had to fumble my way through it a bit.
      It’s all about that goal of 1,000 riders finishing their builds so I figured id show the frustrating parts too, we all end up there eventually haha

    Guess I'm old. I've always just cut the springs, then added spacers. I'm doing one now with my son. 1988 sportster, hardtail, 21 front wheel, front end lowered 2" lower legs shaved and polished. Finishing up with a Hammer 1250 kit.

    Another great video! When I do forks in our shop, instead of trying to rotate that cap while pressing down, I put the bottom end of the slider on a moving blanket, place the cap on top and press down to compress the spring into the tube, and then while still pressing down with my body weight, pull the tube up and rotate it the wrong way until I hear the click, then tighten it down by spinning the tube. Tightening with the tube vs. the cap has always been a lot easier for me, but I'm also.....plus sized, so I have the extra beef to help keep everything compressed. Just my .02. Hopefully I made sense

    Dude I struggled with one of my fork tubes caps last time I did my sportster front end for 2 HOURS and I finally put it back into the triple trees and tightened it down. (I had basically given up at this point) decided to try taking it off while it’s clamped into the trees and pop see ya later! Probably could save someone some pain who doesn’t have the proper tools to get these off

    Lol I just got taught a lesson with fork tubes last summer after acquiring a front end with the 1200 basket case i bought for $500 with a three inch extension and was curious as to possibly using them on my forks but didnt expect them to be a pain to get back together, but after some time, a ratchet strap some fighting and then decided to get my husband

    I have a dumb question. How much did the 2" fork drop lower the frame to the ground? I have a wide glide 3 cvo that's pretty low already so I don't want my ground clearance down too much. I just like the shorter fork look. Thanks in advance.

    • @greasesgarage
      @greasesgarage  Год назад

      Great question and I’m kicking myself for not writing down the exact numbers! I had these same concerns since hardtailing my frame lowered it a good bit already. From what I recall though, the drop was only about 1” and only in front obviously, as the rear end isn’t changing. I highly recommend it

    Hey mate, hoping you may be able to help.
    I’ve gone 6” over on my sporty. Would a kit like this drop my bike to ~4” or am I likely to run into issues given the forks I’m dropping aren’t stock length?
    Thanks

    • @greasesgarage
      @greasesgarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. Take my advice with a grain of salt because I’ve never done what you’re asking though.
      I would be inclined to say that it wouldn’t work, specifically because the progressive springs in this kit are designed to be stiffer to compensate for the lower fork height (less room to travel).
      I would imagine that they would be too short to work properly with a 4 over setup, though physically you could probably make the spacers at a size that would accept these shorter springs. You’d know you had it right when the preload matches.
      And this part is all theory but maybe as long as the preload is right then the springs are fine. Maybe someone smarter than me can help us both out with this one
