7:50 Up until now I wouldn't have said this took the prize for Silver Age, but seriously, evil Kryptonian Phantom Zone cats? That's glorious beyond even the madness in the Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane books. Surely this can't have been their only canonical appearance?
I'm constantly amazed by your depth of knowledge. I thought I was the only person on earth who remember the *prior* story to this, that introduced the statues. I had that one when it was new.
The other applicant with the evil eye wasn't wearing clothes either, so maybe it's a part of the superhero pooches' plan to humiliate potential recruits.
It's a wonder the artist (George Papp?) didn't have Krypto turn to the audience and blink in the last panel. That was cringe-inducing just listening to a summary. And to think, this is only two years out from Neal Adams covers, Wally Wood inking Bob Brown, and Superboy getting a swoosh in his hair. This makes the Murray Boltinoff issues look like Eisner Award material.
These comics are the best! The sheer imagination alone plus that zany script! Modern comics' creators have missed the point of the funny book. This is better than the JLA, Infinity war, and Green Lantern combined! There's tons of material for your show from these masterpieces from yesteryear! Go Paw Pooch!
I had this one back in the day when it first came out. I hated it,I was too young to appreciate the humor. It's great to see it again Fond memories, ah the 60s!
I remember that issue from childhood. The K9 legion of super dogs or whatever. I thought it was stupid then,I think its stupid now, but I loved seeing it again. I remember making fun of it with my brother on the way to school.
Uh you said SPCA, the human humane society but I saw on the rocket it was SCPA. Are WE taking this seriously or not? But your metric of wanting to pet them all makes it all good, especially if I miss heard and you didn't actually say anything wrong at all.
DC has so much pure, unapologetic goofiness built into it. It really irked me to see DC's movie division just turn its back on it all for the sake of toxic grittiness. I'm glad they're starting to lighten up and celebrate their zanier side.
They showed Superboy and Krypto in a new show ad as if it were a serious concept. You can't do story with an idiotic character like Krypto without being completely slapstick. The trailer is darkly lit and has dramatic music like you're supposed get excited. I shit you not.

I tried to find more but I couldn't. I love the idea of evil pets that are basically ghosts. It's so over-the-top.
evil pets escaped from the phantom zone!? now THAT'S a DCEU movie i could get behind
That does sound fun. I'd love to see the grimdark Superman and dirtbag Aquaman fight evil pets.
Weird that this doesn't have more comments

I love how you are excited to give us the great bonkers ones! ❤
Krypto the Superdog needs to be in the next Superman movie.
What a RUFF story! Also, Prophetic Pup should at least wear pants. Children's comics should not have full frontal nudity. Entertaining episode, Chris!

I always wondered why my dad read Donald Duck comics instead of superhero ones growing up. Now I know.
Holy hell only 7000 views on this episode? People are missing out, this was a laugh riot !!!

What kind of drug they were using?
My best guess is all. All of the drugs.
This was the Silver Age of comics, no drugs were needed. Ever.
Mort Weisinger.

People like to turn the nose to those storys, but this comics sales five times more than today.
They are fun.
I want moar
Argh, every single panel of that was painful. Loved it! When are you doing bizarroworld and Bizarro #1?
Crazy comics for a crazy time ^^
Please tell me what the stock music is at 1:16, it's driving me nuts.
The melody is "The Gonk" from George Romero's 1978 Dawn of the Dead soundtrack
Thanks Chris
What did I just watch!?
Note: the comma 👍
Wow, this seems awesome!
Rear admiral 💨

you never see the purple dog's name...
Man, it doesn't make any sense! They were so desperate to sell comics, back then, they literally would write any and every stupid idea!

4:39 Oh no, those anarcho-communist dogs are in danger!
Silver-Age Superman = Best Superman (same thing for Krypto)
