Knitting is, all things, considered, a cheap(ish) hobby. You don't need all that many tools to get started. And that's why I typically don't talk too much about knitting tools here on my channel. Yet, I do get a lot of questions about my yarn/needles/etc so in this video, I wanted to share my favorite knitting tools. Things I accumulated in the past 30 years and really came to enjoy. Now, there's absolutely no need to buy the exact same knitting needles, yarn, scissors, and stitch markers that I am using. It all boils down to personal preferences. But the general items, that's certainly something you might want to put in your project bag as well or to use to compile your very own knitting toolkit.

I keep a lotion bar in my bag. It’s wonderful because you don’t get a wet or greasy feel in your hands, but you do get conditioning without mess or worry about leaks.
Thank you for sharing this with us! You know what? I actually don't knit with real knitting needles I just created my own with kebab skewers. I asked my father to do the same for DPNs. I actually have real steel knitting needles but I personally don't like them because they make sounds that drive me crazy. So... I don't like to spend money on easy DIY items.
That is awesome! and i mean...historically speaking, most metal knitting needles were created using wire blanks. So, your method sounds very valid to me!
I tried to use skewers to knit. Very grabby
I went to a Montessori charter school and we would knit and drink tea while listening to audio books. Since the school needed dozens of knitting needles for all of the students we made our own with wood dowels and a pencil sharpener. The pencil sharpener had a variety of hole sizes so we could make needles from different size dowels. Then, we used sandpaper to blunt the tip and smooth out any splinters. Lastly, but most importantly, we rubbed beeswax all over needles to make them slippery and smooth for the yarn to glide over.
Jumping around on the beer benches 😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was close to sharing a picture of that...but...well...I didn't want to shock people too much ^^
that one caught my attention too! 👍🏻
@@NimbleNeedles very cute 🍻
"I'm not constructing a rocket" lol! love your videos and your sing song voice.
I love my chiagoo needles. The noise they make while I'm working is soothing to me. I did alot of research before buying them because I had never had interchangeable knitting needles before and I generally go with low budget options. Your video reviewing them was one of the ones I watched when considering them. Now that I'm so used to them I know I made a good choice
Norman, I love your channel. But I totally agree with Hailey. Chiaogoo are my go-to needles for many reasons, but mostly because the cords don't curl up like Addi cords do. I love the feel of the stainless steel, and I actually *like* that there are different sized cables for large and small needles. The one-size-fits-all approach of Addi needles is the reason they only go down to US4. I know you love Karbonz, but with my set, the tips have come off and there's a irritating scraping noise on some of the sizes that kind of like nails on a chalkboard.
But, as you say all the time, what matters is that you find the needles and tools that work best for you. Thanks again for everything you do.
Same
I too love my chiao goo needles. The noise doesn't bother me, and they make me smile watching a project grow on them.
@@chriscaggiano7562 I love mine also x
I love the noise too!!!
What fun to see what you actually use when doing 'serious' knitting for yourself vs knitting for us.
I have several sets of circular needles because they work differently with different yarn combinations - some more slippery than others.
And yes, I can be dazzled by the array of scissors out there.
So enjoying your work
I don’t own gorgeous accessories like these, but I absolutely understand the aesthetic pleasure they bring. They are utterly gorgeous. I love them all.
Love your videos Norman! I have been knitting for over 50 yrs and I can tell you, I have more tools than you do just because there are so many nicer tools now. I learn new things every day! Your channel is wonderful and the new techniques are such a blessing. Thank you❤
The neck light is genius!
I love your advice and what you produce!! I am a beginner knitter that’s taken huge leaps into projects that are probably too advanced for me but I bumble through. You have helped me immensely with everything. Loved this video. I also like that you reply to comments. Thank you Norman, there are not many people/ teachers like you. You are a gem .. 🤗
heh. Yeah, I feel that is so important. Tho funnily enough I get a lot of people who send me emails because they somehow believe no youtube ever replies to comments, lol.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have always wondered about your tape measure. I always thought it was so cute.
I love that you cover the most simple and obvious subjects for knitting. These are subjects that I didn’t need until you enlightened me! Thank you.
Norman you have the most gorgeous knitting accessories I have ever seen!!! Especially the yarn tote bag that made me utterly gasp.. you have impeccable taste👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I do wonder what's "gifted" and what Norman has purchased with his own funds?
When I bought the wool for my first pair of socks (I am on my second pair now and they look much nicer thanks to all the great advice in your videos. =) ), I was very happy to discover that it had its label attached with a stitch marker. A very nice idea from the manufacturer.
yeah, I love it when they do that. Costs nothing but you will instantly befriend a fellow knitter!
Need to agree with the neck lights! Saw your recommendation in the past and decided to purchase one and it was the best investment! Thank you for another lovely video!
glad to hear it's not only me who thinks that!
Same here. Very useful
I have two of them. One I hate because it slips off to one side all the time! Arg. My cheap ones that don't hold a charge and have more flexible arms are way better.
Love this video! Especially your comments on being mindful of overconsumption!
Always!
Thank you, Norman. What fun! Through all my years of test driving lots (and LOTS) of tools, currently I don't leave home without my tin pencil box which houses scissors, stitch markers, needle gauge, end caps, tightener, crochet hook, flat paper row counter, tapestry needles, etc. in short, it holds everything except a tape measure Which I carry loosely in. my bag. I 'm also fond of ruler tape that adheres to patterns which makes for easy measuring. As someone who has occasionally used a pencil or shawl pin as a knitting needle, I agree 100% with your common sense approach to tools.
Love my chiaogoo shorties sock set - they suit my knitting style perfectly. It’s interesting how different people are in the tools they like.
I've got the ChiaGoo dpn sock set on my wish list. I'm glad of your input 😊
Thank you for your sharing of the items you prefer to use. I was amazed at how many of the same things I use. However, my favorite knitting needles are the Kollage square interchangeable knitting needles and the Knitter's Pride square shorties. The first set of interchangeable knitting needles I got was a set of Knitter's Pride acrylic needles, mainly to see if I would like using them. Between my knitting needles and crochet hooks, I would hate to think how much money I have invested in my tools. When I reached 65, I started loom knitting an added knitting looms to my collection. It is a good thing I had such an understanding husband and before he passed away, he added a lot to my collection.
yeah..I too feel lucky that I do have such an understanding partner. It makes all the difference.
Kollage are my go to needles. So easy to handle.
I got one of the neck lights that you suggested and it’s wonderful! I love to use it while watching a show on my iPad in a half dark room while using one of these. It’s extremely easy to see my knitting that way! I liked it’s so much that I bought another one right away just in case something happens to it! I found that if I lie back in the recliner with it on my neck it hurts a lot because I’ve had multiple neck injuries. I don’t think it would affect anybody else like that. So what I did was I just lay it on my chest up by my shoulder and and aim it at my knitting. Works perfectly. This is off topic, but I want you to know how likable you are. Watching you talk about the things that you like was so enjoyable. “It’s not like I am building a rocket“ 😂😂😀🌷
yes, i noticed that as well.
Well here is one more tip tho it will be a bit more expensive. There are headlights (like when yuo want to go into a cave or so) that might work better in these circumstances.
Thanks for making an effort and keeping your reviews neutral, Norman! I watched all your needle reviews and bought a pair of Chiaogoo red lace to try it out... And now I own the whole Chiaogoo collection and they are the only needles I use. I am a continental knitter, tight hands just like you and our yarn and needle size choices are very similar.
I apprecite greatly that you have always kept your reviews objective and honest. I am superised that you personally don't like Chiaogoo alll that much -- but it makes perfect sense, because their needles (especially the shorties) are difficult for people with bigger hands. I am happy that you explained things clearly and always give context, or I might get discouraged and missed the chance to meet with my perfect needles :-)
always! nothing annoys me personally than when someone reviews somethings, talks about stuff like "my opinions are my own" but you can see the sponsorship seeping through every pore of the content :(
Good morning from southcentral Kentucky, U.S.A.
This video is so apropos! I get great joy from putting together a starter kit for beginner knitters.
During lunch break at work this week, my friend Mary told me that her 9 year old granddaughter just started knitting, and asked me where to go for nice yarn. During our conversation, I was working on a knitted scarf done in gray/white/pink/black variegated yarn (Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn”).
As we talked, I was getting more dissatisfied with how the yarn color worked up. I asked her if Brooklyn would like this yarn….”Yes.”…..I pulled the fabric off the needles, and wound the yarn back on the skein. I gave her the yarn, and also the needles(Chiaogoo bamboo circular). She wanted to reimburse me, but I told her that she would be doing me a favor by helping me cut down on my stash.
That evening I went through my stash and made up a tool kit of useful things. Basically what you showed us in your video. It all got put in a dark pink lightweight backpack. Mary and I thanked each other the next day.
i can well imagine what a pleasure that was! I mean, basically that's similar to me running this channel. All the feedback I get means sooo much!
@@NimbleNeedles oh yes! You totally understand the joy!
The neck light is a must!!!!
I love my knitters pride and knitpro and knit picks as they are interchangeable with each other
it's the very same company after all - just sold under different names and labels. Lykke is also interchangable and the lantern moon stuff as well.
Another convert to the neck light! Purchased one (based on your recommendation from a few months ago) and goodness, what a difference it makes. I recently had eye surgery (ah yes, age brings on issues with eyes!) and the neck light has been an absolute must now! I've always used Aero brand knitting needles (the metal ones rather than the plastic) as they were what was most common in England when I was growing up, plus I inherited my mum's knitting tools. I recently switched to bamboo needles - even though I was given a complete size set back in the 80s - and have found them easier to use. Less dropped stitches due to arthritic fingers (yarn doesn't slip off so easily), and a lot quieter. Now I can hear my cat purring - he likes to sit on my lap when I knit! Thank you, Norman...you are such a joy to watch and learn from!
glad to hear that my necklight recommendation helped you continue knitting (easier).
Knitting with my kitty nearby is one of my greatest joys. I know its been a year since you made this post but I wanted to ask if you had tried some of the crafting lights sold at Hobbycraft? My favourite is a rechargeable unit that I can adjust to three different light intensities. It’s useful for seeing when I knit but also what different yarns will look like in different light levels. And since its rechargeable I can move it to where I am without being tied to a plug socket. It’s great for when my neck light isn’t quite bright enough.
@@phoenixfire8978 I'm not familiar with Hobbycraft...I live in Canada so a lot of the items that people recommend (mainly US) are not available except through Amazon. The neck light I purchased has been a wonder! Not only for knitting but when I sew or read - it has the 3 different light intensities and is quite lightweight...I've occasionally fallen asleep while reading and so far haven't strangled myself!
@@danutagajewski3330 Hobbycraft is a high street craft store chain in the UK. You can get basic crafting items for okayish prices. Craft lights are one of the items they sell that is competitively priced and really worth the markup brick and mortar stores have to charge compared to online shopping.
I know this may not be related, but I really enjoy your delivery of information. Thank you for your insight! Happy knitting!
feedback is always welcome - especially if it's as uplifting as yours!
I love the idea of the emery board. You are so right, there is nothing more annoying than to start knitting and find one of your nails is "snaggy"
Thank you Norman! I just taught myself to knit and weave this year, but I've been a long time crocheter, embroiderer, cross stitcher, and general fiber addict. Thank you for pointing out over consumption. When I feel the need to go look at new tools, or new fibers, my first stop is actually the thrift store, followed by estate sales and yard sales. I enjoy saving money, and bringing new use to old tools.
I used to help make knives forks and scissors in England
I really appreciate this video, as someone who finds a lot of joy in my needles being "pretty", but is all to aware how quickly the hobby can take over the budget if you don't actually pay attention to it with how consumerist things get hearing both of those messages so clearly laid out was great.
Also those socks? Impressive, pure and solidly impressive to how they've held up.
yeah..i mean they look pretty...well..worn..but i just can't part with them. I wash them, they are clean and at the end of the day they are totally covered by te shoes ..so i dunno. I knitted a new pair which I never wear (yet).
@@NimbleNeedles I'm pretty novice so take that into consideration but have you thought about dyeing them? They and the stain are pale enough that would be my thought of how to extend the life.
@@goblinspoons no I haven't because they need to match the half-socks ;-) still thank you for your help :)
Thank you for sharing your tools and explanations. I enjoy seeing the different things that make the work easier for any one person.
Great video of information. I never thought of including an Emory board in my tool case. I'm going to get one in there today. Thanks!
Thanks,Norman. Always learn from you. We all can keep learning.
You bet!
LOVE your scissor collection. Beautiful :)
100% agree on the Emory board, it’s an absolute must!
Hi Norman thank you so much for sharing your personal knitting choices with us I love your beautiful scissors and your tape measure and wooden embroidery needles case I just love anything vintage they are so pretty but also practical , I have a lot of my grandmothers knitting and sewing items ( including sewing machines that still are in working order , they made things to last back then ) and I’m a grandma myself so that shows how old they are lol and I treasure and use most of them I prefer them to new ones 😊amanda xx💕💖
i feel the same! love a lot of vintage stuff.
THat being said, a lot of the old stuff lasts so long because the technology was so simple. A modern, computorized sewing machine is a loooot more complex. Tho, admittedly, a lot of people actually don't need it ^^
ooh, love the leather bags!
They ARE lovely!
Thanks for sharing , topics and contents are always so relevant and helpful - very much appreciated.
Thank you for sharing your preferences. More importantly, I appreciate the explanation of why you prefer it.
Norman, I absolutely love your videos, and this is one of my favorites so far. Thank you so much for the way you do them - always with generosity and excellence! ❤
So delightful to be shown the finds of a fellow aesthete! Function and beauty! Thank you.
my pleasure
You are so cute "Wayne." I love having the Granny Knitting in public bags. I have had so many people come up to me and talk about their memories of their grandmothers or mothers knitting. I was in a Hospital ER once and rather rough looking guys asked me about my crocheting and I could see his whole face and demeanor soften talking about him Mom and good memories. We talked about how Moms used to be and how hard modern life is for Moms. It was a moment outside ourselves (I was in a hospital ER after all), and to think about nice parts of our lives. PS #Teamchiagoo
What a lovely story! Thx fir sharing 🥰
Thank you for sharing your personal favorites. I love seeing what other knitters like to use. I’m a Knitters Pride fan too.
same here! Even if i mostly know 95% of everything already, so often I find these little nugets i never heard of before.
When travelling I like small projects like gloves & socks so I got a large pencil case & my notions are in an old travel sweetie tin which all fit nicely in my sling bag
Norman, you never disappoint! I always take something new and informative from your podcast.
I have to add my appreciation of the neck light. It makes a huge difference when knitting dark yarns. Thanks for all your tips!
Love your little nuggets of wisdom at the end. Your common sense and reviews are so helpful.
Thanks so much!
I bought the Karbonz after watching this months ago and they became my favorite needles! I love your recommendations! Thank you Norman!👍
I really appreciate your common sense approach to purchases. I enjoy your channel. Thank you!
Glad you like my videos, Sandy!
Thank you for sharing your collection. Loved everything you showed. My husband got me those finger counters from Amazon and I really love them. Will definitely be getting the neck light!!
Definitely consider it. I couldn't live without mine anymore 😅
Thanks for what you do. I LOVE your podcast and the way that you present everything. You are an inspiration to the craft. Keep up the amazing work!!!
Thank you so much! I definitely will!
I have learned a lot from your videos. I had never thought of using sharp needles. I will get some as soon as I see some.
I love your project bag (smaller one). Now I know how to get it)). And a neck light is a wonder tool for knitter. Thank you, Norman! Love your tips.
I guess I've been living under a rock because I didn't know neck lights existed. My eyes thank you for the recommendation!
Great content! This video helped me understand the importance of choosing the correct knitting needle brands and accessories. Thank you.☺
Hi Norman
I recently found your channel on RUclips and am enjoying watching your videos. I have learned so much from you already. For instance I learned to knit using the English technique and did not know there was such a thing as continental knitting so I look forward to trying it.
Thanks for your videos and inspiring me to get back to knitting after a long break.
Lynn
Norman, I love, love, love all your videos please don't ever stop. You have enlightened me with soooo many tips...Thank You
so so interesting!!!! in particular your collection of special needles! The glass and the porcupine look amazing !!!!!
yeah, those glass needles are just sooo amazing. they offer a wide range of special designs. actually kinda too pretty to knit with them, haha!
I have seen a taxidermist selling the porcupine needles. I bought several. Didn't realize I could knit with them lol. I'm a crocheter learning to knit. I'm looking at what needles to buy.
I absolutely love your videos.
Hi, Norman! Thank you so much for sharing! I actually bought my neck light on Amazon thak‘s to your advice in one of your videos. 👏🏻👏🏻😁And I’m so happy with it. It really makes a difference 👍🏻 thank you! My best wishes to you! Happy knitting to you too! 🤗🤗🤗
Wonderful!!!
Appreciate you sharing what works for you. I agree with your comment about using things that give you joy. I've been considering a neck light, you've inspired me to purchase one. Thank you Norman.
Extremely helpful. Visually and verbally explicit. This is one of the best knitting videos I’ve viewed.
Wow, thank you Ruth!
Thank you for sharing. I am just learning to knit.
awesome! wishing you much sucess then!
Thanks Norman such a cool video
Great podcast Norman...as always. I enjoy seeing what other knitters enjoy using, I may or may not even buy some of them. Best to you.
I really enjoyed watching this thank you. I have also enjoyed reading the comments as well, they really illustrated your point that the tools we use, particularly the needles, are a personal preference. I have a set of knit pro interchangeables that I absoluely love but I find that I prefer the control of using wooden dpn's. I love finding out what others prefer and one of my favourite ways of getting new needles is when someone is having a bit of a needle destash and offers me the opportunity to go through what they are getting rid of before they send the rest to the op shop/ thrift shop/second hand store.
I use the knitter's pride needles. I recently bought the light bulb stitch markers and I can't believe how much I like them. Thank you for the video!
my favorite as well. inexpensive and does the job quite wonderfully!
I so enjoyed this video and I’m sure I will refer back to it now and then! Thank you!!
You are so welcome, Mandy!
Thank you for sharing your go-to knitting tools.
I also use the same bulb-shaped safety pins as my markers, I both a pack with with different colors.
I 💗💗💗your scissors and wooden measuring tape.
yeah, i saw these two. As I mostly pick mine off from cloth (and yarn) tags, I only got the golden ones. Never actually bought a set, lol :P
Thank you for sharing your collection with us! The needle and project bags look like a good investment. I still have my needles stored in their original packaging xD
Nothing wrong with thar tho, as long as it's stable enough 👌
Love seeing what is in your project bag. I should get one! I have a box of tools and random tote bags with projects and yarn 😂
I need to get some sharp tapestry needles.
I love my chiaogoo set of needles but I don’t knit much magic loop yet. I am a fan of shorties for knitting in the round. It suits me really well.
Also yes! I love my neck light! Helps so much all the time. Especially during power outages.
Thank you so much for this. You are one of my kit-tubers. I feel like it would be so much fun to just sit and have a coffee with you and knit. Love your videos.
that sure sounds like fun!I have been waiting for all this pandemic nonsense to stop so I could start a local knitting group or so...ah well :(
I like the idea of connecting the stitch counter to the work because I end up knitting several rows and forget to change the counter. I love pretty tools. Your measuring tape is gorgeous. I think I need the carbon needles. Also love your scissor collection. Thank you for the details regarding your favourite yarn. Beautiful tools brings me joy.
I forgot to mention that I love the bags. I made a gorgeous leather bag that zips around, similar to yours but smaller for tools.
I have a smaller leather pouch for tools as well but I don't seem to use it a lot 🙈
Thank you for sharing your collection with us. I love the scissors! We all have our favourite tools. I have a collection of tools (nothing special )from all my knitting, smocking, embroidery, crewel work and sewing. I was also fortunate to inherit some needles, markers and patterns from my mother-in-law and cousin. 👍👍❤️
well, not everything needs to be special. Sometimes a tool that works very well still is valued as a treasure, right?
I seem to collect scissors ✂️ as well, I just bought some Japanese yarn scissors and they are so sharp they actually make a sound when they open.
@@NimbleNeedles absolutely! I have my grandmother’s tatting shuttle and one of her thimbles.
I really enjoy your non-bias views and continue to keep things real! ❤ Every crafter has their Favorites and Go-Tos; just like techniques, to each their own 😊
When I hear how you knit and troubles you find, I compare to my situation and avoid products that I can see causing me troubles. I have my favs too, but sometimes yours and mine do mesh. 😂
You are Da Bomb, Norman1!Keep up the great videos!
Very enjoyable video, Norman. I love your collection of scissors!
Glad you like them!
The tip about the the neck light was super helpful. Will be so handy in a travel when the light conditions can vary. There were times when I couldn't find a good reading place because the place we rented didn't have good lights for that.
Thank you for sharing your decades of advice. I loved the Muud bag you use so much, I treated myself and purchased one. It was just delivered, and it is wonderful, better than I expected. Well worth the splurge!
I can only agree. I feel they have an excellent/quality price ratio!
Loved this video! Thank you!
Another fab video, Norman! I am very sensitive to textures and sound, so I have a feeling (no pun intended) the Chiaogoo needles may not be for me. Loved your scissors collection! I have some fancier snips, but elementary school scissors are my go-to because I am clumsy. They give me better control, if I drop them I won’t stab myself, and if I sit on them they’re less likely to poke a hole in my leather chair! BTW, I attach the barrel counter to my project with a safety-pin style stitch holder, so it’s not in my way. I loved how you explained that some yarns and tools look better on camera, but aren’t necessarily your favorites or particularly practical. That’s so important for new knitters to understand!
yeah. Sadly I really haven't found a way around it. I mean..i do get quite a lot of questions and i always kind of reluctanctly share the yarn I am typically using for my tutorials. Because, other than for these videos and a dishcloth or two, I wouldn't use it >.<
but doing all videos in black cashmere yarn is probably not ideal either, eh? ;-)
@@NimbleNeedles It drives me crazy when someone is demonstrating a complicated technique with dark fingering weight yarn, bad lighting, and poor focus. Thank goodness we have teachers like you who really think about this!
I rewlly disliked the chiaogoo needles because of that sound and the way the needles brush against each other but I find the smaller sizes (5mm and below okay). I had to knit with earplugs using my 6.5mm needles and I hated how it felt so much that I switched to my Knitpro needles instead.
I admire your perspective on this topic. It's hard to resist buying the "next hot" tool or notion that many recommend. My mother instilled in me the importance of buying quality, not going for cheap items. I really liked your comments and thank you for sharing items from your collections. Very cool (especially the scissors!).
I have Addi, Knitters Pride, Lykke and Chiaogoo interchangeable sets. I found your comments on Chiaogoo interesting. I love them and dislike the others for magic loop because of the cables. I have more problems with reverse ladders (stitches too tight) with cables that have a coil memory than I do with the Chiaogoo cables which have no memory. I love the slick the Addis for fast knitting, and use my Lykke set for slippery yarn. Chiaogoo are a nice middle of the road option for me and are my go-to set. I guess that is why there are so many options for knitting needles as we all have our own preferences!
I typically knit traveling magic loop as I only use it for Fair Isle. Guess that too explains why I don't like CG overly much. But yeah, it's so great that there are so many different options out there.
OMG those Jean-Marie Roulot scissors are so BEAUTIFUL. I am envious lol. I knit, crochet, sew and am learning to needle felt and embroider so I'm almost at the point where I can convince myself to buy a pair haha. They are just lovely. Thank you for showing us your beautiful collections of needles, bags and scissors. I believe that it's worth it to spend the money if you know the tools will last.
Thank you for sharing your collection of favourite knitting tools! I loved seeing your collection of scissors but also your special knitting needles. For me, knitting needles are one of the biggest keys to how much I enjoy the knitting experience. I am not an expert so the stainless steel needles are my least favourite & I didn’t ever think it might also be the sound they make, but you’re so right! I much prefer a colourful wooden needle. It helps me enjoy my slow knitting experience! 😊
Great content. I hope all is going well with your move. I just did my first project with double pointed needles. I used them to add a ribbed cuff to a pair of crocheted mittens. I ended up using four of them. I started up from the cast on and sewed the ribbing to the bottom of the mitten at the wrist. It added just the right amount of stretchiness and compactness to them.
so far yes. But still a looot to do and so many furniture to buy/yet to arrive ^^
Love your videos!! So informative. Thank you
Thank you for this awesome video I really enjoyed it!
Nice to see what you have in your project bag. The one thing I still need is the neck lamp. Even if I have great lighting at home, The neck lamp would be great for travelling. Thanks for this episode.
Get one..you won't regret it! 😄
The neck lamp is great for reading also. Great on a plane!
Hi Norman, thank you for this and your other videos. I’ve recently returned to knitting after almost a decade. Your tutorials are so helpful and I’m glad to know my kit includes the essentials that work for me. I’m also very sensitive so the feel of the yarn and needles and the sound they make are important to me. I chose to buy a set of the KP Symfonie ICs as I borrowed some from a friend and found I liked them better than the Addi Turbos I used many years ago. Not quite so fast but definitely a pleasure for me to use. Your video has made me realise I’m lucky to live in Australia where high quality, super soft merino is so easily available to me locally. I even have a cashmere producer fairly locally. I’m trying to be mindful and only buy for a specific project, since the yarns I love the look and feel of are more expensive.
definitely a good approach to be very mindful about your purchases :D
So much fun to see what you like 👍😀
Have an amazing day, great video as usual :)
I love your project bag
Thank you Norman! I enjoyed seeing what you use for knitting. I started with wood, due to arthritis I love the ChiaoGoo fixed circulars. I was making a wrap for my sister and used some roving yarn that is variegated mildly and it made a pretty item. I have the 'shorties' and the idea Is great about stitch holder with them! My favorite wool has nylon and it is nice to stitch with. I have a leather project bag, it's open top, wishing it was more like your bags. Thank you again! Just a nice side note my family on both sides are from Hamburg, Germany, 200-300 years ago.
heh..yah it's really nice. though, as I said, a bit pricey to just use at home, haha :)
@@NimbleNeedles mine was 169 dollars without the zipper lid.
Hi! I stumbled to your channel when I was looking for help on tension control. I love the video you made for total beginners. I just started knitting yesterday. I have been crocheting since I was a kid but mostly toys. Recently I have been crocheting a blanket for my daughter as I recover from a big surgery. My sister kept telling me to try knitting and so here I am. Your video has helped improve my tension. Your instructions so clear. And your point on tools that suit you best and your consideration on carbon foot print and all and spending too much on tools is up my ally. Thanks for sharing your tools. Helps me understand what I should be looking for when I build my own knitting tools. 💖💗
welcome to my channel, Natasha!
Thank you Norman. I really love your tan colour leather bag - it would be good for knitting socks as I use DPN's and all those needles can be quickly dropped into the bag in a moment. Also, I fear walking down a steep flight of stairs but inside a leather bag they couldn't be safer. Or should I say, I couldn't be safer.
Thank you for all your interesting information involving knitting.
I have nail clippers with a mini emery piece on it to clean up rough nails. I hadn't thought of it as being one of my tools before. 🙂
IM A NEW KNITTER I LOVE HIS CONVERSATION ABOUT THE ADVANCED
Very enlightening Norman. I use a bucket as working bag . I covered it with a coat in crochet with a lot of useful pockets on the outside works perfectly. I also liked your mention of Schachenmeyer wolle. It's my favorite brand too and anytime I go to Germany or Austria I stock up enormously Wool is much cheaper in Germany and Austria than in the Netherlands. We have cheap brands here but not the
same quality at all. Needles, I only use circular which suit me best. Love your explanation. Good bye my German knitting friend
I love your video's. I feel like I learn so much.
Awesome! Thank you!
