I am a 65 year old African American that to me was the GOLDEN AGE of baseball. Hank, Willie. Roberto. Ernie. Billie. Bob. Lou; .Don;. Sandy, Frank, Pete, and many more in that area. Hank had that sound off his bat that you can not forget.

@@arthro9259 That probably plays a role too. He was so darn good but he was sort of robbed of the accolades he deserved b/c he spent his whole career tucked away in Milw and Atl. He had a better career than Mantle, better than DiMaggio. If you take away his 750+ HRs he still finishes his career with over 3,000 hits; astonishing.

The most consistent offensive force in Baseball History. You can take Ruth. Others can take Mays. Bonds. Puljos. Griffey Jr. Ted Williams. Take them all. I’ll take my idol EVERY TIME. He was a great fielder, while overshadowed by others, he was steady. 3771 Hits. 755 Home Runs without ever hitting 50 in a season. 2298 Runs Batted In. Go ahead. Challenge me. That he won only one MVP is a testament to his underrated place in baseball lore. He was a champion for better days, the second most important person of color to ever play the game. His book I HAD A HAMMER, should be required reading for all. In my mind, only Ruth was better, and that’s even up for debate due to the color barrier era of which he played. I’ll miss him with my soul.

Many people today can't fathom how big baseball was in America. It was bigger than the NFL or NBA. Boxing was also very big. What amazed me about Hank Aaron is what he did from age 35-40. Now mind you, no HGH, Nugenix, freeze chambers, private trainers or jets, etc. So to hit 223 HR in that five year period is astounding. Mr. Aaron was also a class person. I knew he received hate mail but I did not know he received 3,000+ letters PER DAY! Imagine that!
I remember the night he broke the record it was crazy how the interruption on television. He had class and rose above the stigma of racism. A true TRAILBLAZER!!!!! Tim Kurjian blew me away with these wonderful stories and his

The game of baseball, the sports world , the nation and the world lost a truly wonderful man today,Hank Aaron was not only one of the most talented and most consistent players of all time,he was an incredible and courageous man who stood in the face of racism and social injustice, one of the most exciting moments in my family's was watching"Monday Night Baseball"on NBC waiting to see him break Babe Ruth's all time home run record, when he hit#715 we neatly torn the house down, it was a moment to remember, Mr Aaron was just simply a wonderful man who touched so many people in so many ways, like so many of the great ones he had an incredible gift, and we were so blessed to share his gift, condolences to his wife Billie,his family, friends and his fans, Thank You, your legacy with endure forever!

Hank Aaron was simply the epitome of consistency. He played the game for its sake - day in day out. That makes Aaron the great player he was.

He was the hall of farmer of hall of famers. At Cooperstown events where new inductees were coming in and other HOF’ers were there, he was the star. He was the guy everyone wanted to get next to.

It was great to be a kid in Mr. Aaron's era -- when baseball was king, there were only the two pennants, and post-season games were played in the middle of the afternoon on weekdays!
Basketball and Football were pretty much afterthoughts to Baseball in the 70s.

I wish I could let Mr Aaron know that I was a white boy growing up in southern California in the 60s and 70s and it was because of him, Willie mays, Roberto clemente, and to a lesser degree Mickey Mantle ( because he retired before I really started playing) that got me loving this game as much as I do... I'll never forget going to dodger stadium for the first times during the 1970 season with my mother and seeing Willie Mays hit a home run in a game and seeing Hank doing the same thing later in the season...
This little white boy never saw anything but great baseball players and great men in all of them... All of these players had illustrated biographies written on them that were easy for kids to read.... unfortunately they never talked about the racism they endured nor the alcoholism Mickey Mantle battled... I read everything about the game I could get my hands on between the ages of 9 and 11 and I knew that I was seeing something very special when I watched all of those players in person and on TV...I would stand in front of the black and white TV by myself watching the games and pretend I was playing in them... Often overlooked for greatest player ever, when Aaron retired, he had more HRs than anyone... More extra-base hits than anyone... And he was 2nd all time in hits, behind Ty Cobb.. And he did everything else really well too..

Looking at the home run record footage, it's a lot more beautiful than I thought. A black man who received death threats is greeted by two adoring and supportive white fans while he rounds the bases. After hearing about Hank Aaron's death, I had to look up info on those two (I never considered them). They spent a night in jail for what they did, but all charges were dropped. And I don't know about everyone else, but to me, Hank Aaron is still the real home run king.

I followed the career of Henry Aaron since I started collecting baseball cards in 1962 when I was eight years old. He was one of top ten greatest players of all time! Yet, instead of focusing on his great career, his wonderful personality, and his gracious nature, the mainstream media took the opportunity to remind us how racist white people are. Every headline talked about the "vicious racism" he had to overcome. You see, to the media EVERYTHING is about race ... ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

Aaron is more so considered the US home run king. Oh is considered the global one, if you're simply comparing number of HRs hit in any professional league.

It makes me laugh when I think about the only person to "surpass" his home run record needing steroids to do it, and if anyone does it without roids somewhere down the line, a lot of it will probably be attributable to analytics, getting yourself the best possible situation every time you're in the box, and yeah some god given talent, but Jesus this man was 6 ft tall and 185 lbs for most of his career... oh yeah and freaking held his bat cross-handed... I will be genuinely shocked if the player to do it isn't 6'4 or taller and 200 lbs. Players like this guy... yeah they don't come around very often... I read Aaron's autobiography years ago, and found him to be an incredibly bitter man, He certainly was treated terribly as he chased 714, but, as Don Henley sang, "you keep carrying that anger, it'll eat you up inside." I met a tourist from Atlanta ,( in eastern Canada,) a few years ago. He told me that he tried to speak to Aaron in an airport, trying to tell him how Aaron was his hero growing up. He said," he totally blew me off; didn't even look at me."
