  • This is a clock I got at an estate sale. It was super cheap, and I know a lady that loves these clocks. It had some problems and I sorted them out. The clock works great now, and it is on a wall in her work office. Everyone in her office loves this clock. They do make new mechanisms that fit these clocks perfectly, so don't be afraid to buy one of these if it does not work. Very easy to work on, and enjoyable after it is done.

It’s vintage 1990s. My cats love it. They know how to tell time.

Found one in a thrift store yesterday. My grandmother used to have one in her kitchen. I was planning on giving it to my sister, who is a bird freak, but the movement is busted. Very happy you've shared this, thank you, I'm going to give it a whirl

Had the same story here! I got one from my great grandparents, the movement wasn't working. Turns out, it had a small amount of corrosion on the contacts for the timing chip (the quartz crystal thing.) I cleaned it with alcohol and the movement started up again, and it's been running good since! I wish you the best of luck with urs :D

Thanks for this video. I have this clock and it stopped making bird sounds. My husband is quite handy as an engineer so I'll see if he can follow your video and fix mine too.

What is broken? Is the battery compartment or the capacitor or the wiring? I got mine in goodwill but it does not sing, looks very similar like in your video except the one that you soldered. Everything in mine is connected to the capacitor.

I had a cheap noname knock-off clock similar to this since 1998, and one day back in 2015 or 2016 the clock mechanism just stopped working. The clock doesn't have any brand on its face, just "Handar" on the mechanism itself. The sound module is made one single piece with its battery compartment, and the test button is just glued into the main frame plastic near the speaker, connected by two short pieces of wire. The clock face protective cover is plastic, not glass, and it is installed in such a way that I doubt it can be taken out without scratching or cracking.
The sound quality is worse than in these ones, and there is no light sensor at all (the silent hours during the night are just pre-programmed to make a quiet tick instead of birds' singing). Still, I liked it so much because I got it as a memorable present from my parents when I was a kid. The sounds work good as new till today, but I have no idea on what is the problem with the clock part. Maybe quartz contacts corrosion as in the case of another person in the comments? I am afraid to disassemble it though, as it could turn out that I will not be able to put the parts back together.

Have a question for you if you think you have an idea on how I can fix this.
So I replaced the old clock mechanism with a silence one since clicking is hard to listen at night.
The clock is moving and the birds chime when I push the test, but I can’t get it to chime on the hour.
I took out the wire part that was in the old mechanism but idk if I put it in the right place to get it to chime on the hour.
Do you think it needs to touch a metal part of the mechanism?

Mine sings when I press the button but doesn't on the hour... there is some part that makes contact when the big needle hits 12 o clock??
They changed the birds on my newer version, no more woodpecker and a morning dove added at 7 am....

I have this clock from my parent's home. It's been hanging at the office now and everyone loves it. The birds work, but the clock mechanism is off. I've had it apart, & changed the batteries. It works for awhile but then loses time on & off. Any suggestions? BTW, love your video! You are so patient with these lovable gadgets.

I know these clock mechanisms are not all that great. You can get replacement mechanisms on Amazon. I think there is a capacitor in the mechanism that fails and when it starts to fail they can't keep time very well. Just what I think though. Thank you for watching and the kind words!

  • @stevenmagdefrau158

Likely someone tried to get it to work. Looking a mine. Seems like it would start working. But, the electronics fails to chirp on hour. Maybe the photo resister. Maybe the clock is not tripping the sound board. Easy to open up. Would like to trouble shoot why it is failing. Several times seems to work but fail on wall.

My clock stopped chirping after 2 years. It no longer makes a click on the hour, so there is something wrong with the switch. I haven't tried taking it apart, not sure if I can fix the switch. The red button on the back works.

I have one on my bench too. It works, it just isn't very loud, I think the speaker amp is needing some components changed. If it works, it has to work loudly. The Lady that owns it is in her 80s and is hard of hearing.

Make sure you get a clock mechanism that has the built in switch. The light sensor is connected to the PC board. You will just have to desolder the clock mech. wires from the PC board, and then when installing the new clock mech, solder the wires to the board. The hands from the old clock mech. will, or I should say, should fit on the new clock mech. Not hard at all, just watch that new wires don't smashed when putting the clock back together.

I just got one recently & it just arrived, but as I’m testing the Bird Sounds on mine, it’s not that Rare Bird Sound Pattern that I was expecting, which makes me so confused, as I don’t get it! 😕
That Rare Singing Bird Clock is by as the Patent Made In China is a Sticker instead of it being imprinted into the Back Plate! 🤔
So, if mine is not doing that Rare Bird Sound Pattern at all, then I really don’t get it, as that makes me mad 😡 & so confused! 😕
However, I just got another one with the Green Rim & I’m hoping that that one with the Green Rim’ll have the Rare Bird Sound Pattern 🙏🏻 & if the Green Rim one doesn’t do it either, then yep, I’m so confused 😕, as again, that rare one is by as the Patent Made In China is a Sticker instead of it being imprinted into the Back Plate! 🤔
