    Some helpful tips: Disconnect all five fuel hoses and remove the filter and bracket completely from the car. This will help a lot. Then unclip the electric wire from the bracket. It will make it easier to remove the bottom plug. The bottom plug also have a drain pipe wich make it less messy. Then fill the new filter with diesel before screwing it to the bracket. Then pump the primer 15-20 times until you feel resistance. The car should then start immediately. This is at least my routine.

      Thanks Fredrik, you're right that would be less messy.

    Thanks for the video. I just needed to know where to bleed the air from as I ran out of fuel. Had to wait till the end off the video but was worth it. Worked after a few attempts. Thanks for the video again.

    Just one little tip for getting the Engine started again without draining your battery too much,, get an assistant to start the car as you keep pumping the primer button on top of filter at the same time,, you will find that the engine will start and bleed out any air after only a few seconds,,,keep pumping a few times after engine starts. This method is also very handy if you ever run out of fuel.
    Basically all you are doing is bleeding the air out of the fuel rails.
    Toyota Diesels have very good high pressure fuel pumps that don't wreck themselves just because they had a lack of diesel lubrication for a while..
    I have even seen a Toyota Diesel filled up with Petrol then driven for over 150 Miles up the Motorway with no I'll effects to the Pump or Engine.

    That rear clip is a total pain! I've just done mine. Easiest way I found was to remove the clip and air pipe. Then I put the clip over the pipe before reattaching. Mole grips were great though.

    Very informative. I will try to change the fuel filter on a Toyota Corolla Verso, D4D as I think it's the same engine.
    I watched the video on a long distance train, without volume, following the images, so only one nag, is the wording needs to be held on screen a little longer.
    I will rewatch later at leisure.
    Thank you again.

    I have avensis but its petrol, it parked for quite sometime, (2 years) when trying to start it, it only cranks but not start (dry run) like on video. Tried to add petrol but that didn’t help. I was delighted when I saw ‘priming’ option but I’m afraid if that can be done on a petrol car, any help please

    Why not disconnect all pipes and connections from the top if the housing during dismantling and rebuild from the bottom up
    (Connections to bottom of filter, fill with fuel, connect top housing to filter, connections to top housing, start car.)
    Just bought avensis. Am curious.

    Stop being lazy and take the last hoses off (mark them if your confused) and then the power connector, then you are able to remove the entire component with the filter still on it. Then you can drain the diesel by turning the tap screw (or whatever it's called) underneath in a safe place. The way you are doing it leaves Diesel all over yourselfe, the ground and the engine compartment....

    use BGK 245 into fuel to clean fuel system, excellent in my 2003 d4d. Do this before fitting new fuel filter and engine oil/oil filter. use shell v power diesel. use a Denso quality fuel filter only.

    • @amateurtorque6709
      @amateurtorque6709  4 года назад

      Hi, do you notice a difference with Shell V power, I wonder if its a placebo?

    • @nirupamafallon1759
      @nirupamafallon1759 4 года назад

      Amateur Torque yes, use the best..smoother and quieter with v power. Helps keep carbon low but Bg 245 is amazing in high pressure rail Diesel engines.

      I have Toyote Avensis 204d4 year 2001 changing the fuel filter is very simple, just unscrew two screws with a key number 12 disconnect two cubes and three fuel lines and we have a filter in the hands. Just replace it with a new one and screw it. This operation takes 15 minutes I did it for the first time today 17.06.2019r From google translate.
      Thanks for the video as well :)

      Hi Lucas, sorry I haven't changed on a 180. I can't imagine it would be any different. I would suggest opening the bonnet on your 180 and playing this video on a tablet to see if the fuel lines are in the same position. Let me know if it is the same.

    Stuff a clean rag down the air intake to the injectors or you'll get dirt, or a bolt down there for sure!

  • @zloben9000
    @zloben9000 8 лет назад +6

    NO NO NO prime the filter with the hose to the fuel rail disconected.
    prime until it leaks diesel fuel
    then start and rev the car 2500-3000 rpm
    those dry cranks have damaged your pump.
    have a nice day

    • @colincrooky
      @colincrooky 7 лет назад +2

      zloben9000 Please do NOT disconnect the fuel rail as the pipe may have to be renewed. It must also be torqued correctly! There is absolutely no benefit disconnecting the rail. Please read the manual.

  • @YiannisPagonis

    To start the engine: My friend before put the new filter you must fill petroleum the new filter and then take off the air of the system.

    • @peterpott166
      @peterpott166 7 лет назад +1

      You Don't must fill petroleum in the new Filter. You have to push the handpump button 10-15 times by Toyota.

    • @colincrooky
      @colincrooky 7 лет назад +4

      Yiannis Pagonis Please do NOT use petroleum as you could destroy the fuel pump which will cost approximately £2000 to replace. You could however, use diesel and that would be beneficial.

    • @fredrikgranberg611
      @fredrikgranberg611 7 лет назад +3

      Yiannis Pagonis NOT petroleum! Only diesel.
