He is one of the best folk singers ever - period. I saw him in Boston many years ago and he is what folk music is all about. One of the best folk voices on the planet. Seriously under rated ie: popularity. Truly one of the best.
While i listened to this it occurred to me that my son who recently finished college and at a job, and his own place .... wasn't going to be coming back home to stay. My heart broke a little. He's doing great. Me, i miss him every day.
Wow, I fell in love with this song as a high schooler and it has stuck with me for about 40 years now. I remember singing this song for my parents when I was 22 and leaving the home that I grew up in. It was an emotional time. Tom Rush, you are one of the best! Interestingly, when I worked this song out for my self years ago, I did it out of a D position, not the C position, like you did it in originally.
I think he would have hit it big if he didn't do as many cover songs as he did. Seems that nobody gets top billing since the early to mid 60's after Elvis, where you had to write your own songs which radically changed the music scene going forward ,maybe have a cover here and there to fill out an album. If he had this mix, I think he would have been up there with Dylan and Seeger and so many others of that genre.
I bought it too but I had already figured "Childs Song" out and posted it on my site. I think I will learn all the songs on it. I wonder how Tom feels about it being here for free? Charsal
Tom is an amazing performer and musician and I love his version of Child's Song....but please keep in mind this unbelievable song was written by Murray McLauchlan. Just wanted to point it out, cuz I'm quite sure many folks are not aware of that. Thanks all!

Tom generally gives credit if you see him live. One of the most poignant and touching songs ever written
@mahalodog7 Wow, and how'd it all work out for you?
You can see in his eyes that this song still rips his guts out.
