Labrie will always be in my opinion the best singer ever. Even to this day at the age of 58 the passion in which he sings is truly special. He was amazing the 5 times I seen him sing live. They are all truly special musicians and so down to earth.
@@axlrosea675 so he wasn't good on luna park. Breaking the fourth wall or live in London. I beg to differ. Also to do what he did on the Astonishing takes incredible talent. It was amazing to hear live.
Exelente dt ,está banda tiene esa esencia de metal pesado y con esa mezcla de sonidos suaves y melódicos que mezclados ,hacen que su música sea muy especial y muy buena
Poor Labrie, only 2002 and you can already hear his voice kinda degrading, and how he has to struggle to push out the higher notes. His voice in the 90s was so powerful and raspy. I don't know what happened to him but its a real shame we'll never hear another performance like Live at the Marquee.
Kyle Garvey food poisoning from a shrimp caused a vocal chord rupture before the awake tour. That said he still has brilliant nights here and there like score, budokhan, luna park and when I saw them in Montreal for the ADTOE tour, he was nailing old awake songs. But yes, because of that accident he is very inconsistent... Such a shame that happened
@@qcdoomqc it's not just that incident. It's the fact that portnoy and petrucci were demanding him to sing with that raspy tone which was destroying his voice. He started taking opiates just to get rid of the pain so he could keep singing live without pain. It's sad that the reason his voice is destroyed is because of how hard he tried to please the fans
Seen DT 9 or 10 times over the years. LaBrie has definitely had some rough nights. BUT I saw them last month in LA at the Wiltern. (March 2018). LaBrie was SOARING. IMO he hits those high notes in a really strong falsetto....which requires lots of muscle but is easier on the vocal chords....whatever. They played most of "Scenes From A Memory", including "The Spirit Carries On".....which I thought I'd never hear live. Amazing. One of their best and most entertaining shows ever. sidebar: yes, their new drummer (on last three albums) is very good. as good as Portnoy? NO F'ING WAY.
Guitar sounded with too much gain and a little flangered and the synths with circus/carnival Rudess mode on xD for me compared to the studio version but it was great.

But seriously, you can't believe that he is anywhere near as good as 20 years ago

One vocal rupture then 8 years later he said he bled out his vocal chords and that would've been around this time.
