Blake, my man have to say very sceptical when you first started project mentioning tree's! But your expert mate is the 'Dog's Boll*ck's'. Excited to watch the end result! An impressed Raptor Rob
Makes me enjoy my 1Up rack even more. Angle it down and access the hatch of my SUV, which is a basic function of the design. All aluminum and won’t rust. They also make a swing away adder for vehicles such as Jeeps with the spare.
Nope. Sam Pilgrim is a great biker and incredible athlete, but I find it hard to listen to a person who has destilled the entire active vocabulary down to a handful of words
Oh my - grinder in one hand, work piece in the other and all that grinding towards your face with just lightweight safety specs on! 😱 Part 2 might be a while coming if anyone from the HSE sees this and the safety standards in your mates garage.
This is cool you did this BUT.... you could have just bought a swinging arm bike rack. lol Kuat makes an extension you can put on their hitch racks and rockymounts has a hitch rack called backstage swing away. :) But I enjoy the DIY stuff too.
Boys, Thanks for showing the pride of doing something yourselves. A bit of pride in a skilled tradesmen as well.. I believe you did mention this is Video number 1.. I thought you painted the work when completed. I can buy this.. I can buy that.. Can you buy the Bentley?? or a Muzzle??
Tip: temporarily block license plate before recording to minimize editing. It’s also less distracting for viewers, but the video was awesome none the less. Thank you
You can by rear mounted bike racks that go onto rear wheel on 4x4 i had one and attached to rear wheel...could take upto 30kg...i put my ebike on it...worked fine and i could open rear door fine even with bike on it
Blake that's a very good awesome bill you got going on there with your friend both of you are quite hilarious but yet very professional with you two putting your heads together I'm building this bike rack that swivels excellent communications between the two years I'm pretty sure it was extremely fun because that is exactly what you guys are having fun on this build
One up makes a rack with reverse plates that works with out removing rack on Jeep. I went with regular super duty. And installed a slight drop tha lt allows the same thing that clears my 37 spare and I can swap to other vehicles. E bike friendly also @ 75 lbs per bike is perfect.
10:20 that’s what the penny was for when you were taking the receiver out. Why not build the frame to the towbar or its chassis mounting points and ignore the receiver.
That looks like it’s going to be a behemoth of a vertical bike rack Blake and befitting a JKU. I have a manufactured five bike vertical rack on my Jeep but it’s not a swing away model. Eventually I will buy the swing component but being an avid MTBer and Jeep owner I am poor so it will have to wait a while.
Really enjoyed this looking forward to next episode, but I do hope those cars are his and not customer cars, as agree with the comments on sparks and dust etc. Also need some safety glasses at least whilst using the grinder! Set a good example for the kids watching on safety.
I know this vid was for the content and to just build your own... but for anyone who doesn't have the tools or the skills, Yakima and Küat make racks that swing out. I'm sure other companies do also.
Yeah cool idea, until someone rear ends you and the insurance tell you that yours is invalid because you've modified the factory towbar beyond its tested capabilities (sad but true in the UK) as soon as its modded from factory spec insurance is game over .
Same in Germany: you need a homologation for any part you screw or - God forbid - weld to a car, else your insurance tells you that the car they covered is not the car you are driving.
Put them on the roof rack? or create a simple rack that slides back and pulls down like a loft ladder off the roof rack to the back, attach bikes then slide back up out the way.
Or you could just buy a Memo vanswing for £600 and at only 25kg you would probably still be able to drive your vehicle uphill lol 😂 Glad my car wasn’t in that garage when this was made 🙄
i did some grinding with a car a few feet away... covered the car with a blanket. when i took it off at the end of the job i came to find that the grinding sparks had burned through the blanket and burned into the rear windscreen. hundreds of little pit marks all over it. had to replace the heated glass.
Hitch-mounted bike racks - for bikes are much better, stronger and easier than round ball tow bar mounted bike racks, especially for MTBs. However for in the UK I think they are illegal. Also so many regulations with lights and number plates and vision. I think there should be some exceptions in the UK to use hitch-mounted racks for bikes.
@@jackwoodhouse2321 You've obviously never used an angle grinder for an extended period of time. 15 minutes exposure of 100 dB is enough to cause hearing loss. A free running angle grinder can give off 95 to 100 dB. It can damage your hearing, even if it doesn't hurt.
Guys, very interesting. But don't you need to have this device authorized at a National Authority or something? In my country, you'd need to have such a device certified or at least inspected by a road authority in order to employ it on public roads. And it will have consequences on insurance and all sort of things.

Blake, you gotta cover the paintwork when welding or grinding near it. The sparks melt into the clearcoat and will start rusting in no time.
Seems like that's something the guy who owns the auto shop should keep track of...
I like blake because he's hilarious man in gmbn, thumbs up 2 blake
As a fellow jeeper/biker, I’m loving to see the progression of blake’s jeep from stock to monster mtb hauler lol

Blake would be awesome on an automotive channel as well - just a good presenter all around. Nice episode, a bit different but I really enjoyed it! :)
Always stoked for a good Blake Builds! Especially some custom goodness!

Blake! You’re aliiive! You’ve been gone for so long I thought you were dead
Oh, those Brits!!! I've started drinking more tea after watching Blake Builds series! Ahahah!!! Can't say that's bad, though :))))
Blake is like Steve McQueen, cool without even trying :D

I was about to comment the same thing.
Surely just a simple GMBN or BlakeBuilds No plate cover is all it would take.
This video was such a coincidence, I am trying to find a way to bring our stuff to our local bike park when there is too much to carry, thanks!
buzzrack pilot 4x is exactly the product for your initial problem.... no need for fabrication lol

Should be a great rack, need to put a hitch opening back on it to be able to pull a trailer if wanted too!

thats great diy, but i would save the time and get a yakama back swing, adds on to any bike rack.I love my Rock Mount swing away mount.
Hey Blake, what kind of tea do you like and how do you like it prepared?!
A fun video but seems like a alot of extra weight and work when there are great stands out there that does the same probobly cheaper and alot lighter.
well yeah but most racks don't fold out because his boot folds out sideways so he kinda needs to make his own
There are quite many that folds down actually.
@@MrMarcusNilsson Those that fold down are for hatchbacks, where the back opens up, that’s not the case for him.

I feel sorry for whoever drives into the back of the jeep 😬

Should of just bought a 1Up bike rack with reverse side plates. The tire carrier easily clears the bike rack.
Put them on the roof rack? or create a simple rack that slides back and pulls down like a loft ladder off the roof rack to the back, attach bikes then slide back up out the way.
Lmao I have the same kettle as they have in the workshop.

@Monolithic Juggernaut trust me I know, I rode a motorbike everyday and see people on there phones all the time.
Armitage trailers and towbars ferrybridge it’s what we do 😁

Is that a really old Thule rack Blake? I have a similar one about 10 years old, and it has the tipping facility.
