Top 5 Hood Movies People Love....But I Don't!

- Hood Films are always great, when it comes to nostalgia many us cannot register the fact that some of those that we love just.... AREN'T THAT GOOD! Take a look at 5 hood classics that many love and let me explain why I didn't !
I dislike Love & Basketball because dude was hella fucking toxic. He literally got mad at her for not staying out past her curfew despite her inviting him to talk in her room, cheated on her, and then cheated on his fiancée with her.
That part of the movie I didn't like. It was poorly written. But it was to relate his father's choices to his own
I hate this struggle love ass movie. Strung her along, took her virginity, kept her on the back burner, she was literally his last resort. She desperately tried to win his heart in a 1-on-1 game in which he mercilessly dunked on her, then when she walked off in defeat, he says "double or nothing" IT INFURIATES ME EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT IT. She competed for him and kept herself on standby for him even though she loved him more than all the girls he passed her up for.
Facts
New Jack City is a cautionary tale, friends aren’t really your friends, especially when money is involved.. G money had the worst week ever..
New jack city was actually based off of two brothers from Arkansas who moved to Detroit
@@deidrickgranberry6427 Yeah and they should have just told that story ...i bet the original screenplay was DOPE....then Mario Van Peebles got a hold of it and he's a bad writer, a bad director, and a horrible filmmaker to be honest.
The movie had NO continuity. They basically had Pookie getting MURDERED on film, all that surveillance, all them drug deals on film etc and they acted like they had NOTHING after the Carter went down
They never intended to use Pookie to go into the Carter until he suggested it AFTER he got clean and that had to take...3 or 4 months so what was ICE T and them doing in that time?
The Carter was a STUPID IDEA for a drug business. Nino said "One place to process the product, vile and package the product, sell and distribute the product, and keep the bank for the operation...all in the same place.....that's STUPID and they acted like Nino was a genius for coming up with that idea. Also....what was all the computers there for....ya'll keeping records on a damn drug conspiracy.......that's EXTRA stupid.
@@deidrickgranberry6427 it was based on the Chambers brothers
Fax 📠 Wesley Snipes performance was A1 . My favorite actor
Hustle and Flow is a masterpiece. Everything felt so real in that film and the acting was incredible. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson really did an amazing job and it just felt believable. I cannot believe that people actually hate on it. Sad.
I loved Poectic Justce when i was young but as i watch it now there was too much bickerng and the plot wasn't strong enough. However, it was great to see Janet Jackson in a different element.
Watching Janet try to be hood was painful as hell to watch.
She didn't even really act hood tho
It just felt incomplete
As a Memphis nigga. I loved Hustle & Flow but his accent pissed me clean off. We’on say “mane” in every sentence.”😂😂
@@kenbrown88 them folks played with that accent on me 😂, I couldn't get pass that at all my boy 😂
I'm from Memphis also and I definitely knew some niggas who said mane every other word, especially in the early 2000s. Project Pat uses it like that on "Out There" for a reason
It's stereotypical 😂
I didn't think 🧐 that Hustle and Flow all that great. But 3 6 Mafia definitely deserved the Oscar
Big facts right there mane!
shit that was the only good thing about the movie was the music lol
The best part of I got the hookup was the endung credits
Naw it was funny u ain't gone lie like that
@@nardomobley307 facts...it was definitely funny. It was a low budget flick.
“He still cracked that ass!” LMAOOOO BOY YOU GOOFY AS HELL! Got me dying laughing bro you deserve my subscription! 😂
I agree with all this; Except......New Jack. Also you nailed Hustle and Flow.
😂understandable and thank you
Took me a long time to realize how trash new jack is
Hustle & flow is Hustle & Slow....
I also agree excluding New Jack City. Very entertaining classic. But the thing about NJC to me is...its a fairy tale cops vs drug dealer movie. I doubt it goes down in the "real world" like depicted in this movie. Even though there are probably real life Ninos in every major city in America as the movie claims, I doubt they behave in the same manner as Wesley Snipes version. Just too comic book for me. lol
@@ddconwaysnostalgiclounge bruh i agree . these movies were trash, especially poetic justice . that should of been number 1 on the list
IMO I think black ppl love Poetic Justice because of Janet and 2Pac
I got to hook up with sorry ass movie but aj Johnson and Master p in the movie together was kind of funny. It was just something to laugh at because it was so silly
The hood movie that most people like & i dislike is Baby Boy. Because Jody was sorry as hell, he didn’t wanna grow up, drove Yvette’s car while she was at work, he didn’t wanna move out of his mom’s house & didn’t want her to be happy & was cheating on Yvette. I agree with disliking Poetic Justice & Love & Basketball. They’re both overrated AF. Fun Fact: Ice Cube was supposed to Lucky in Poetic Justice & Martin Lawrence was supposed to play Pookie in New Jack City. I Got The Hook Up was like a dollar general Friday because majority of the cast were in Friday as well.
That's DEFINITELY on my next list😂I don't see one lie my boy. Dollar general Friday is insane but true af😂
Wasn't Jody like 20 years old though? So I can't blame him for being childish at that still, especially since most people at that age don't have their life figured out yet and are still trying to find their purpose in life.
@@ddconwaysnostalgicloungeexactly
I actually enjoyed you bringing up all these hate hate moments but new jack!!!!! Ima watch it tonight. Keep em coming
@@Grubdissimo that's why I said some are probably good, I just didn't like them lol. Thank you for watching🙏🏾!
Chris Rock was the best crackhead ever to be on film after Samuel Jackson in jungle fever
Yup.
Heres a fun fact: Martin Lawrence was supposed to play Pookie.
😂😂😂😂
Facts
Got my vote brother New jack city is the best out of all of them
New Jack City, Boyz N The Hood, Juice & Menace II Society is the Mount Rushmore of hood classics.
Appreciate the entertainment. Hope you get big out here.
Thank you!!!!!!!! Appreciate the love 💯🙏🏾
I don’t completely agree but I completely find this video hilarious😂😂😂
I'm glad you were entertained 🙏🏾
You're right about Poetic Justice it is boring has hell I only watch it because of Tupac
Facts😂😊
Hard disagree with Hustle & Flow. One of my favorite movies of all time. All the other entries, I agree like shit lmaooo
NIGGA IS THIS REAL????!
and bro ain't no way you believe hustle and flow was good mane😂
Damn Primm really that nigga mane 😂😂😂😂😂 he a all star 😂😂😂
Ok
Primm in other people's comment sections spitting facts, he an all star ⭐
What about the player's club
Trash
I disagree with your opinion, change it. Just love the videos. After this one I had to subscribe. ❤
Thanks for subbing!
@ddconwaysnostalgiclounge I meant to say just kidding about your opinions. Your opinions are cool by me.
After the first Friday, the rest of then was too gimmickie
Martin Lawrence was supposed to be in new Jack city but because Robin Harris died and he was his mentor he opted out. He was also supposed to be the interrogator cop in Menace To Sociey but because of the schedule of his show he couldn’t.
I Got the Hook Up aka "DIET Friday".
Definitely dollar store friday
I agree with all movie on this list except New Jack City. That’s one of my favorite Wesley Snipes joints
You’d only like ‘I got the hookup’ if you were a No Limit fan.
Loved your take on these movies
Your mic is low but the clips are loud AF
Gotta readjust the volume on my end from when you talk and when the clips play
Who ever said "I Got The Hook Up" was a good movie anyway
I halfway did I kinda rocks woth that movie when he pulled them cops mask off that slow motion what the hell scene that leads to master p best friend being confused and wondering around saying shit like black cops white cops lmao you crazy that dumb movie was good I can't speak for the second that's wet trash
Ikr, where is the executives saying "we need a rewrite, this is trash."
No bullshit! The first one was waaaay better than the second. Why tf they wait to make a sequel like 20 years later 🤦🏾♂️
Only insane people!
😒facts
I’ve always felt like this about Hustle & Flow and The Player’s Club.
@@bigmona2741 lol totally understandable
I'm from Memphis too and I'm with you on Hustle n Flow. The accents were terrible and the way we were depicted as being country and behind the times was completely false. Memphis is full of trendsetters and has always been since the 50's and 60's. And the hair... I haven't seen a ninja wear that kind of hairdo since those 70's exploitation films. Also, nobody in Memphis would be crazy enough to put on a leather coat on the 4th of July. You would probably die of a heat stroke before you make it out of the driveway. Another thing, I haven't seen anyone with household furniture in the front yard since my grandma lived in Orange Mound in the 80's. I also didn't like how they were living in that dark hot house, without AC and everybody looked all sweaty. Then he had the nerve to pull out a cassette tape. I have not seen a cassette tape since the late 90's. You wouldn't have even been able to find a cassette tape in Memphis, during the time this movie was made. And the fact that DJ Paul and Juicy J were involved was very disappointing because they shoulda known better. IMO Greenleaf was a much better representation of Memphis and the people here.
What I didn't like about Love & Basketball was the fact that their relationship seemed one sided to me. Monica was basically chasing Q the whole movie but he didn't seem to be half as interested in her. I didn't even see what the infatuation was from her side. He wasn't that cute; he was arrogant and cocky for no good reason and the way he broke up with her was lame as hell...all because she wouldn't sacrifice her own future on the basketball team to stay out late and comfort him with his family issues, eventhough she tried to compromise with him. He didn't give her any good reason to be so infatuated or even give him a second thought after their college breakup and he damn sure didn't deserve for her to get manhandled and pushed around on the basketball court, trying to win his heart.
THANK YOU!!!!! That was my whole point! They depicted us so crazy
Yea I didn't Love and Basketball cause Hella one sided a day Omar was Uber trash at Basketball and Lathan wad slightly better but still garbage
@@ddconwaysnostalgiclounge I never liked love and basketball period because i couldn't understand the hype about the film because I never saw it, I was just a hateful summabish but now I have a reason....
Just found you enjoying your videos but it's funny how you were talking about the hustle and flow accent while using the same accent "mane"😂😂😂😂 no shade
Lmao thank you 😂
5:45 😂 just so calm with the roast tho 😂
Lmao had to be 😂
My nigga u get subbed cuz u had me dying at love n basketball 😂😂😂😂😂
My nigga💯🙏🏾 preciate the love mane 😂
Hustle and Flow's only redeeming scene is when DJ is finding the beat... I rewatch that scene all the time, but I don't even know how the movie ends🤣🤣
Friday After Next is absolute anus.
Lmao a fucking classic tho😂
I always found the movie "Juwana Man"...i thought to myself "Here We Go...They Got Another King In Drag Dress As A Woman Playing Basketball"....
C'mon Hellyweird USA...that movie is pig poop in already dirty pampers...!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I saw 3 strikes in the movies 😂
Say what you will about master p as a rapper filmmaker etc he had a couple decent and pretty good movies like lockdown, no tomorrow, hot boyz and Foolish with Eddie Griffin
Bruh ik a nigga who said he watched hustle and flow and really thought that’s how we was out here. Also you should check out them three six mafia movies foo. What part of Memphis u from
Memphis Memphis Memphis Memphis is sending me 😂😂😂😂 very musty indeed
😂😂😂😂
you hit the nail right on the head with love and basketball it was so poorly written when it had so much potential. 😭
So much potential down the drain lol
Pootie Tang, Love n Basketball, Set it Off, Precious, and
Whole list on point. Except NJC. I'd swap that out for the first Friday movie. Ninjas luuuuuuv that movie. But I could only watch it one time before never seeing it again. The next Friday movie is actually more entertaining to me (Pinky stole the show). Yet I think Chris Tucker was a funnier side kick to Cube then Mike Epps was.
Sheeeshh just now seeing this😂but I know some people who use to hate Friday too until they started smoking
ur voice shouldnt be lower than the clips .. i like the video tho .. the clips are soo loud work on ur audio ..ill sub
Will do
Oh yeah baby boy and any movie master Percy made 😂😂
Poetic Justice was loved because of Janet and 2Pac. It wasn’t boring to me though. It just probably just didn’t have enough action for you.
I've never seen New Jack City but I want to.
Love & Basketball; wasn't bad. plus Quincy ain't start doggin' Monica til he got mad at his father . Even though he was rotating girls, he was faithful when he was with Monica until he wasn’t. (Daddy issues)
I actually liked Hustle & Flow 😂😂😂 Damn 😭😭😭 Man was a poor pimp 😂😂 cut him some slack 😭😭😭
Never seen the #1 and thanks to you and some of these comments, I won’t be watching 😂😂😂
New jack city soundtrack A1
This video funny as hell 🤣. I agree with Hustle and Flow, the movie was alright but i didn’t see the hype fr.
Thank you😂
These are classics you must be very young because you are missing the point
I definitely understood the point, and I think that's always been my thing about hood movies...always have good storylines but sometimes the execution in acting isn't always the best. Like I said in the video, some of those movies I listed aren't actually that bad but in my opinion I didn't like them🙏🏾
Their just voicing their opinion on a film they didn't like, using aging to determine someone's understanding, that's pretty juvenile if you ask me, I mean old fools do exist and your just a reminder of that
@@everettsims1928 Hold up, mature one. Younger folks might miss the cultural weight of certain films because they're focused on the storyline-- just like the @ddconwaysnostalgiclounge stated above. Films from the '80s didn't really capture the true vibe of black neighborhoods, and '70s blaxploitation movies were too over-the-top. Then in the early '90s, "conscious" films and gangster movies put young black talent on the map. The young man may not realize or care that these films were "bad" because the creators had limited resources-broke filmmakers and actors hustling. This age gap means different takes on what these films really mean and how they hit. So yes, he's entitled to his opinion but he is either missing or disregarding the point of the films-- which is cool! We're here for his take.
3 strikes is an underrated classic. I love the flick
I saw Poetic Justice once, that was enough. Disagree on Love and Hip-Hop though.. Hustle and Flow, saw it once, that was enough. Never saw I Got The Hook Up.
Do people honestly like i got the hookup like that?
@@toddpace4588 I SWEAR TO YOU THEY DO!😂 just go through the comments (I know it's a lot) but you'll see a couple people saying it was actually good
It's aight a wish version of friday
3:20 caught me off guard but is definitely facts when you rewatch the movie 😂
THANK YOU!! Folks be ready to take your card if you say anything derogatory about these movies, but so many of them are straight booty
Whole reason I started the series 😂😂😂🙏🏾people are scared to admit some of these are just good bad movies at best
My goodness why do I agree with everything you said about these movies. Like, I can't say nothing cuz you said everything I think about these movies, and yes...'Hustle n Flow' was hot garbage. I want to add 'Boyz N The Hood'. Not that I didn't like it. I just felt like Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character was so out of place there.
@@me0on0utube Cause we all know the truth about a lot of these movies, but we just don't say anything lol. I thought I was the only that felt like he was out of place 😂
I may not agree on your choices. However you make some good points about they can be horrible.
This change has become my new guilty pleasure 😆
Hot Boyz was a horrible movie 😮
BEYOND HORRIBLE!
Master P production 😂😂😂😂
I hated hustle and flo and I got the hook up!
5:07 - it's actually happens quite a bit in real life. That's why they now have some people where them vests.
I remember when my mom rented I got the hook up, she was like, it’s so corny😂
Tupac was confused as hell even the look on his face was the fuck. In love and basketball he quit and went to medical school worked with house. Oh pookie, Wesley Snipes is a pretty good actor bad at taxes but a good actor I’ve never finished hustle and flow but Terrence Howard is pretty much the same character in all his movies.
Only two movies I reflect the same exact sentiments are I Got The Hookup and Poetic Injustice…. Shit was beyond boring
Mane BEYOND boring as hell bruh😂💯
I agree about both films, but,Poetic Justice is vastly over-rated. LOL. Janet's acting was-TRASH-straight garbage,I didn't believe for a second Janet was a hood chick,at all. Boring script means boring movie. LOL. Tupac was wasted in this film, especially seeing how he performed in-JUICE-not his fault tho. You made the most out of that bull&&&& dialog and script.
I like all these movies but I like to look at things from a different person perspective too
I never liked Love amd Baaketball so I didnt realize Omar had the same name Q as in one of my favorite hood movies Juice.
Good point
I totally agree about Hustle & Flow. Only watched it once in theaters and never watched it again. Just wasn't my cup of tea. I don't even remember the plot of I Got the Hookup. I remember Foolish, but can't remember anything about I Got the Hookup. I respect Master P as a businessman though and he helped put Louisiana hip hop on the map.
Love and Basketball could keep people out of Chernobyl for the next few centuries with that level of toxicity
Colors is the worst movie of all times, because it literally destroyed my childhood.
That's tough 😂
That gangster lifestyle crap needs to be done away with.

I haven’t seen most of these, I think New Jack City was alright though. But the real stinker that I’ve seen would be “Baby Boy” and “Belly”. One is so incredibly illogical that it’s not believeable whatsoever, the other one just simply lacks a clear plot and feels like an overlong music video.

A girl I use to FW left the DVD player on with the Hustle And Flow menu music playing (Hard Out Here For A Pimp) while we were sleep I woke up took the movie out and smashed it into a million pieces felt like some Twilight Zone shit and those accents were worse than Jason's Lyric
Wait, hey fellow Memphis native
How could you leave out Juice now I know you a baby but I like your swagger
New Jack city is a classic…and I got the hook up…eh nah you right on that one lol
New jack city is my favorite and hilarious but also is a lesson on watch who you trust and keep in your circle . The soundtrack was lit only actor I didn’t care for was Ice T his acting seemed sooooooo forced
Dude cheated because he was just like his dad but didn't realize it like many youngsters, Hustle n Flow Was good imo
Hustle and Flow was ass. Terrible representation of Memphis
You must be very young? You're rating these movies off today production standards. Not understanding that budgets were at a minimal for black movies during that time. Unlike today's hood movies lack substance and only show women twerking. I do agree with you about Poetic Justice, it was too long and didn't carry me. New Jack was a first of it's kind and many movies and videos use something from it or production style. But, like you said, that's your opinion. I just ask you to consider the time when they were made.
What's very young? I'm rating these not simply off "today's production standards" because that's always been a given with black movies. I always understood budgets for black movies being very low. However, in this very video most are of my ratings are because I simply didn't like it or the acting was beyond garbage and every movie on here has multiple actors with trash performances.
I was old enough to understand each of these movies when they came out or when I first got around to seeing them.
I ask that you put nostalgia aside and consider the performance of characters in each of these movies.
@@ddconwaysnostalgiclounge Poetic Justice was hyped because it was the first hood love story.
He never said anything abt production values with any of these movies....where did you get that idea from?
They didn't live through it... they have no way of fathoming the type of cultural experience we had when these movies were released. The young folks look at the things we cherish most as complete useless garbage. We were taught to appreciate the things our parents loved -- They were taught to mock them. That's the world we live in 🤷🏾♂
@@deshaunx776 you can’t be mad at his opinions on these movies it really has nothing to do with age it’s his own opinion. A lot of black kids young or old most definitely can relate to hood classics but some of these movies do a horrible job of showing the experience that’s why I like “Don’t be a menace “ because they made fun of those movies. The chi is a good example of representation of current Chicago and they do a good job showing current Chicago without trying to hard
