Thank you for watching! If you want to skip to the information part of the video, it starts at 5:30.
Welcome back! The one thing I would add regarding bus travel between PP & SR is finding out where the bus trip terminates. I have taken bus trips that ended right by the Central Market but, on my last trip between SR & PP, the last stop was in a very remote part of the city (like Street 528). A tuk driver charged $5 for the 30+ min trip into the center. Since I had no idea exactly where I was, I wasn't in a good position to bargain! So, it pays to ask before buying the ticket & not assume.
Yes, that's very true and we have had the same. If you arrive at night time or need to depart early in the morning, it's even worse. Factoring in the tuk tuk at both ends, a cheaper bus company can end up costing nearly as much as Giant Ibis. Thanks so much for watching.
@@ForRiel I have my own car now, but I wound up at that depo at the edge of Siem Reap too. Do the giant ibis bus lines go right in near the night market?
I look forward to new videos from SR...thanks for the video
Thank you Stitch! We're looking forward to exploring - the place has changed so much it's like a whole new town.
Thank you, I’m so happy for you that you are back in Cambodia 😊
Thank you! We are very happy to be back. 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Glad to see that you two are back in SR. Maybe I will run into you while out and about! Keep the videos coming.
Thanks David! Give us a shout if you see us. Jeremy is quite unmissable :)
I am so glad you are back in Cambodia; I love all of your videos & I love Angkor Wat temple--such a magnificent and mystical place🇰🇭🎅💯
Wonderful to have you here, Artemis! We are very pleased to be back. ✈️🇰🇭🙏🍺😊🛵
Congratulations on making it all the way to Siem Reap. The over heating of the car is definitely common if the.driver doesn't maintain it properly
Thank you! I don't think sitting with the engine idling in traffic for two hours helped the car much either, but at least it got us to Siem Reap. 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Beautiful home! Good price too 👍😀☕
Yeah, it's a real bargain! 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Very helpful to many, thanks
Thanks Laurence! All the best.
I'm homesick! I saw my apartment in the opening shot of you showing your room..
Just around the corner.
Hope to be back soon.
Have fun.
Oh yeah, I will see if I can pick out your building. The riverside is so nice now! Really impressed with how it's looking. See you soon! 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
wow cool apartment. glad to see you back in cambodia. cheers
Thank you so much! It's great to be back. 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
The gold Highlander chariot, LOL. It makes me wonder how many of the speeders in the rain have bald tires...scary. Anyways, I am glad you made it to Siem Reap safely. I appreciate the info on the bus rides one can take to go from PP to SR. Awesome video!
Thank you Richard! Yes, I bet a lot of those cars have bald tyres and there is definitely a culture of speeding up to get out of the rain. Luckily for us it only rained for the last 90 minutes, and the rest was great. The things you see along that highway are just great. It's such an interesting drive! 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Thanks guys. I always enjoy your posts. Miss srok Khmer!!
Thank you so much for watching.
Good info as always - Many Thanks 🙏
Thank you so much! Appreciate you watching.
Thanks for the info. I'm making the same journey next month and used the postal van last time. Maybe I'll treat myself with the bus.
Oh yeah, I've heard about the postal van but never been quite sure of the details. The big bus is fun and being higher than the other traffic gives an interesting perspective.
Thanks for sharing your video nice weather in Cambodia but not in Toronto today 5 degrees below zero it's cold and windy but down to the south an hour from where I live in Buffalo new York state big snow storm is around 60 CM of snow ❄ well Claire enjoy your weather in Cambodia 🇰🇭 take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 it's cold 🥶
Oh wow, it's cold there already! I hope this winter is a mild one for you. We had some rain again yesterday, and that might be the last of the wet season. I just love how healthy and lush all the plants and trees are looking here right now.
I once had to teach a manager at a place I worked at that you could flush toilets by putting a large enough volume of water into them to flush them, it always amazes me when people don't understand this, but it looks like Cambodia knows how these work better then the average American.
Yeah isn't it strange that people don't understand basic things like this? You could actually bucket the water into the toilet's cistern and then use the button on the cistern to flush. Maybe they would understand that.... baby steps! 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Glad you guys made it to SR safe and sound. Thanks for sharing as always!
Yeah, it's great to be here. Thank you for watching and coming along for the ride with us.
I am so happy for you guys, I hope you have an amazing time, love from UK
Thank you so much! It's great to be back here in the Kingdom.
Hi Claire, that's some nice background music. U got great taste for it.
Thanks so much! :)
We used Ibis bus ( coach) service from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh last month, very comfortable. Recently restarted after a Covid pause. Donuts are definitely hit or miss in Cambodia. Keep well
It's a great service and the seats are much more comfortable than a minivan. I think it's a lot safer, too. Thanks for watching!
I was spoilt in Kampot with pastries.
Was happy to spend a bit of cash in a local store.
Welcome home guys .. it must feel nice to be back .. if you want to wipeout any bad memories of bad bakery try out The Muffin Man he never disappoints or The really nice Cafista cafe
with it large fresh cream stawberry croissants .. they do wonders for my belly ..
Yeah it's great to be here. We've been past the Muffin Man a few times in recent days but never been in. We looked at the apartments above Cafista and noted how good the cafe looked, and all that lovely air con! The apartments above are very nicely finished and the pool on the roof must be the cleanest I have ever seen. Really nice property all round. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. Very informative as usual.
Great to see you're in Siem Reap. Chartreuse with envy here in Australia.
In May I took the Giant Ibis bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Luxurious and about one third occupied. Good trip, just over 6 hours.
In late October I used Seila Angkor Khmer Express for the same journey. A fifteen seat mini bus that had 5 people aboard.
A fairly rapid drive that took around five and a half hours.
Both trips had one food and comfort break of around twenty minutes.
Travelled to Battambang with Virak Buntham bus company. Also a good trip of around three hours.
Hope you're settling back in ok and having a wonderful time.
I look forward to your next video.
Lynn.
Hi Lynn, sounds like you got a good overview of the land transport situation! I think the buses and vans are a lot more full these days - the number of tourists around is crazy! We're not used to seeing it like this, and it's slightly confronting. I think we used VB when we went to Battambang back in July 2019. We are really enjoying being in Siem Reap, and it was very smooth finding and moving into an apartment, although we have to move again in a month (long story!). I hope you can get back for another visit soon - I know what it's like to watch other people enjoying themselves in Cambodia on RUclips. Making Cambodia videos while we were back in Australia was a special kind of torture. Take care and thank you for being here!
Thanks guys.
Thanks for being here!
Just the info I was looking for, thanks !
Great! Thanks for watching
Great video, I love the bread sticks with pork floss, try and get them straight out the oven where possible, they are Awsome when still hot 🥰
Thanks Darren! I'm not a floss fan myself, but I do like the baguettes. Dipping them into the soup of a mama noodle bowl is my guilty pleasure. 🛵🐒🏩🌴🛵
I hope that we cam meet you next time I'm in cambodia.
For sure!
Okay, at 9:40 I said "I got it! I'm gonna open a gay bar in Siem Reap and call it 'The Angkor Muscle Market! ' " Thanks Claire!
That does look like a beautiful homestay, though. When I went to Phnom Penh I ended up living in a $400 monthly rental within a rather dodgy bar called the "Red Fox II" This place looks a world away from that dump, and at a better price.
Haha yeah, definitely a good name for a gay bar! Secret Garden is a bargain for the month and it's so quiet. Really enjoyed our time there. 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
A Donut 🍩 from hell along with a broken down car, a cracked suitcase & a broken zip on the suitcase really sums off the kind of day you had dealing with bad luck. I hope 🙏 you guys do some videos soon. Best wishes. Mike 🍻 😊
Thank you Mike! They were all small things, really, and we were just happy to make it to Siem Reap. At one point when we were sitting in the traffic I wondered if we would be able to get out of Phnom Penh that day! 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
Sh$t happens, not a huge deal. Over our years of travel we have had so many crazy things happen to us. We have learnt to breathe and make a different plan.
Nice video , with good info Thanks !
Glad it was helpful! 😇
That Taxi ride was expensive! I went with my 5 family members to Sihanoukville On the new express way only costed us 50 dollars....
Was that while the expressway was free? Siem Reap seems to be minimum $70 these days.
@@ForRiel Yes the expressway was free.
Thank you for the info
Thank you for watching 😌
Was there any thumping bass music coming through the walls there or was it a nice, quiet place? Good price.
Very quiet place, slept well.
Not at all - no street noise and no dogs, either. Very peaceful.
Love your channel! Thanks for all the great info! I’m planning to retire to SE Asia in 3 years time and am giving strong consideration to Siem Reap. :) Take Care :)
Thanks so much. There are a lot of good things about Siem Reap, but it isn't for everyone. We love it here, and if it's the right fit for you, you'll love it too. Visit first if you can.
@@ForRiel yes I have been to Siem once; right before the pandemic hit. I have also been to Kampot and Phnom Penh. My initial plan was to get a retirement visa in Thailand (I’m 51 years old) but with rumors swirling about that they are going to increase the financial requirements I am getting annoyed and am looking at other options. Take care!
I notice your driver had to stop and cool off the engine. Our mini van driver did the same when we stopped for food and restroom breaks. I didn't ask, I wonder now why do they do that? don't they have coolant liquid like Prestone or something like it?
Yeah they seem to do that all the time. All the vans will be lined up at the lunch stops with their hoods up. I think the heat in Cambodia is the issue, along with driving for several hours straight. 🛵🙏🌴🏠🙂🙏
the ibis bus sounds like the best option , maybe tous la jours for baked goods ? thanks for the video
Yeah the Ibis bus is great. We like the baked goods at Aeon supermarket, but there isn't one of those in SR. Never been to tours la jours - might have to give it a go! Thanks for watching :)
I went to a local bakery in Ayala Mall in Cebu City, Philippines years ago and bought a tasty-looking donut like Jeremy’s here in this video. It was awful… no taste at all. Just baked flour and water, with no flavor. I was excited when a Krispy Kreme finally opened up in Ayala Mall. They have always known how to make the mosr delicious donuts on the planet!
Local donuts are not good, had the same thing in Laos.
In the process of selling up see you next year
Excellent work, Thomas. The beers will be cold for your arrival.
Thanks for sharing. I have been searching for GRAB taxi for Siem Reap and it does not have any videos about GRABS in Siem Reap. Do you know if Grabs are available and reasonably priced? Thanks.
Yes Grab is active in Cambodia. You'll find tuktuks more than cars, though.
thank you
@@ForRiel
Claire Love your blogs . God willing if it is the will of almighty Living God I should be visiting Cambodia 🇰🇭 this winter 🥶 and I would really love to have. Beer with the two of you Aussies.
I hope you can make it over here soon! Thanks so much for watching.
Why didn’t you guys just fly to Siem reap?
We had too much stuff by that stage because we had bought the monitor. Would have had to pay for excess baggage and those flights are still not as cheap as they used to be. I really enjoy the drive as there's so much to see.
Hello, i want to take a private shuttle (auto with driver) from Siem Rap to Phnom Penh, are there any places to visit along that route?
There's a group of ancient ruins about 30km east of Kampong Thom. The main one is Prasat Sambor Prei Kuk. These ruins are from the Chenla period which is before the Angkorian period, so much older than Angkor Wat. I haven't been, but they would be great to see.
Why didn’t you take the minivan for 10-13 usd , sorry if i missed your answer
We had all of our luggage with us and wanted the easiest option possible. Normally we would choose the Giant Ibis option!
Great apartment… not typical car trip without bad engine and wrong snack selection…
Yes, the apartment is lovely! The car had no chance after idling for 2 hours waiting for the traffic jam to clear.
$200 @ that temporary place might be permanent for a while as I search relentlessly for an ideal very long term lease (perhaps until I die) negotiated with the right landlord ? Unusual but doable.
The gems are out there. Take your time and you will find it.
🇦🇺🍺🤙🙏🍻
✈️🇰🇭🚜🚛🚙🏍🍺
You bought a car in cambodia?
No, its just a private car with a driver. But you can buy a car if you want too.
Aussie English word, garage sounds more like American than UK!!
Haha yeah, I think you are right! :)
Should rent Biden’s Beast… you can get to SR within 3 hours with the Beast for sure…
Yes! He's not very generous with it though. We really just need an expressway like the Sihanoukville one. Wouldn't that be great?
The poor people of Cambodia have suffered for decades and now they must endure a visit by Joe Biden. Sad
Well, he thought he was in Columbia, so... 🤣
🤣🤣😭
I'll be definitely taking a private taxi from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, more comfortable, and it's reasonably priced as well.. I still haven't been to Siem Reap yet, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys there 🤠🛵🚜🚲🇰🇭
Wonderful! You will love Siem Reap for sure - we will have the beer on ice for your arrival.
@@ForRiel 😂😂😂 I would like that.. Thanks
You can share a private car if you like. Just join the Share Taxi Cambodia Facebook group and post your dates on there.
