Hi Mark, great video and excellent photography. That road looks tough, endless corrugations and then soft sand to end it, not to mention stiffling heat & flies. Good to find another Perth based RUclips vlogger and cyle tourer, cheers Guy
Thanks Guy 😄 Just watched your outback touring setup vid. Lots of great tips!! Will work my way through the rest of your videos as I gear up for more riding next year.
Great video of the tour. Very envious that you got to ride into Mornington Station Wilderness Sanctuary and Dimond Gorge. And to stay for 11 nights 😃 We rode the Gibb from Kununurra to Broome in 2017 by flying first to Darwin, bus to Kununurra, then return flight from Broome; just a 5 week travel for me. We could have done the whole dehydrating thing, but found that it was easier and not too expensive to buy stocks of dehydrated meals from Strive Foods in Tasmania. They were great meals and easy to carry. Because we found quite a few places for meals along the road, and we did not do the planned side trip to Mitchell Falls, we took some Strive meals home.
Thanks Peter. Yeah I thought if I was going to bother riding the GRR, then I'd make sure I had enough supplies to visit the sights along the way. I volunteered at the sanctuary in exchange for meals, which were much nicer than my own good of course!
I keep coming back to this video, it’s definitely one of my favourite bike touring vids in Australia since the Gibb road is on my bucket list. Love how chilled you are seeing a 🐊 😂
Thanks Tom! Really nice to hear it's providing some level of inspiring. Haha it was just a freshwater croc, *basically harmless. You should get out there soon - I hear half of it will be bituminised in the near future, which will remove a lot of the challenge from the ride (a positive for some people, a negative for others..).
@@BudgieEscapee they should keep it how it is 😭… the challenge seems like the fun of the Gibb road.. I will see if I can make it there, will be riding across Australia from the Gold Coast in November so hopefully I can get the best of out it!
@@psycheeunevsi Exactly! Hmmm...maybe look at your timing...the GRR gets closed over the wet season. Will be the hottest/most humid time of year too = can tip the balance into making a trip a bit miserable.
@@BudgieEscapee you’d know this pretty well considering you have the experience travelling the world in various climate changes! I always wanted to know, what’s the update on that? Yeah most of my trip will be south of Australia of Australia but I guess your right, it will just be too hot up there, can always come back in winter to see the true outback.
@@psycheeunevsi Ah good, yes the north is best done at another time of year, although camping in a tropical thunderstorm is quite a thrill! I'm home in Perth just biding my time until the world opens up a bit more, then I'll be off again. Would love to ride Africa top to bottom next. (I'm in the Pilbara right now with poor internet that doesn't load videos, but I'll check out your videos when I'm back in civilisation. Where is your end point?)
Thanks Jess!! (sorry for the late reply...thought I'd replied to this earlier). The Gibb was the ultimate package as far as challenge and reward goes! It's such a beautiful part of the world and makes for an epic ride. Good luck with your adventure there this year!!
Awesome video mate. I never leave comments, but your video inspired me. Beautifully filmed and edited. What camera did you use for those long zooms? I’m going to Gibb River Road (second trip) again in a few months and this video has got me so excited about it.
