As for the pulley check I used to use a stethoscope made with the car repair probe, not always accurate but I used it on wheel bearings etc, I would think you would have one and yes it’s easy to remove the belt but it could be used to check all the bearings when it’s off anyway, clearly I don’t want to tell you stuff that you know but I thought it was worth a suggestion.
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic I didn't mean to criticise rather mention how I used to work and most back them didn't have any computers and ways you could check, obviously they were much more basic so there was not much to go wrong. Sorry if you thought I was giving you criticism and I hope you didn't take offence. 👍
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic no worries. Keep up the great work you do. I've hung up my tool belt now but you have a great future especially with your new maybe partners. ✌️
I've been in the trade for 7 years I'm about to start a mobile business, I have a lot of tools but I don't want to be stuck at a job without the correct tools, any tips on special tools I'd need for outside jobs? Ones that you wouldn't necessarily need in a garage?
great video your lucky you dont have been stuck with parts love watching it as my sons car is in the drive waiting on exhaust as he hit a fire path ramp only a year old exhaust
I had this happen on my own 1.6tdi golf. New gates timing belt kit fitted and started getting a similar pulley noise around 50k km after the kit was fitted. I thought it was the auxillary belt tensioner also initially and swapped this along with new auxillary belt, but no change in sound. I left it go stupidly thinking it was the ac pulley. Turned out to be the timing belt tensioner and this caused the timing belt to shred (but luckily not break fully). Skipped a few teeth on the high pressure fuel pump and engine cut out and would not start. New skf kit fitted and the engine was fine luckily. Lucky escape for me, but I should not have ignored it. Apparently Gates kits are poor in recent times and the vw engines are known to susceptible. Maybe not the same issue for this customer, but one to keep an eye on. Loving the content btw. 👍
I tend to keep clean from anything that would transfer to a customers car to be honest, I’ve never in my career dirtied a customers car, if the off chance I did I’d simply pay for a full interior clean by a profesional I’m that confident
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic In my defence, the safety locks don't engage, so it's all resting on the hydraulics, and there is no trough in the floor, just saying 😉
It was good once upon a time, I wouldn’t recommend it for a family man, you won’t see your family and friends all that often, it’s offset by reasonably good pay though
Is the crankshaft or camshaft sensor on a VW Crafter a gearbox out job? What's the labour time roughly? Only asking as a garage has claimed it is a gearbox out job on a friend's pick up but i was very surprised......
Thanks. Copper grease definitely seems to have gone out of favour these days. That said, I still see old skool mechanics using it on the pad carriers and back of pads
Can you please check your emails? I have sent an e email to becoming a mobile mechanic around midland.appreciate for your all advice and opinions. Btw, I respect and love what you do but I would like to give a suggestion that would be good cleaning the wheels sitting surfaces before putting new pads (not after) in my opinion otherwise some dust might be between pads and disc.
Great Stuff Kerby!! as always mate We need more honest mobile mechanics like your good self. "Thank You"
Much appreciated 👍🏼
Liking the work from home extension bar setup to tackle the starter motor 👍

GOOD VIDEO KERBY THANKS FOR SHARING THAT INFORMATION DID YOU SELL YOUR GOLF
No still got it
That golf pulley noise sounds like the timing belt tensioner. These are known to sh*t the bed and shred timing belts
It had a new belt a couple of years ago and not many miles to be fair

Not 100% sure on the crafter but potentially the crankshaft sensor yes, not the camshaft sensor though

Is ceramic grease on the hub faces better than copper grease?
I’d say so yes, not a fan of copper grease
Thanks. Copper grease definitely seems to have gone out of favour these days. That said, I still see old skool mechanics using it on the pad carriers and back of pads
There’s deffo a place for it on certain places on cars but not on brakes, big old debate online about it
For Gods sake, use an axle stand or 2.
If I’m not going under the car I don’t use them tbh
