There's an issue that has been building in the past 40 years with electronics and computers, which I like to call the compatibility event horizon. Basically, since each new itineration of technology has a chance of needing a new connector, over time you have to add more and more adaptors to make something work. Normally this isn't an issue, because single users swap out their components quite often. It only becomes an issue where large companies have to update their tech, or when someone like Michael is trying to meld different technologies. You reach a point where a component just DOESN'T have a single adaptor to fuse it with another component, so you need an adaptor for the adaptor, and so on. To get a really easy understanding of how this works, imagine you have a version of english from 4,000 years ago (It wouldn't happen, but imagine), now imagine the only person who can translate it speaks english from 1,000 years ago. Closer, but still way off. So you get someone who speaks english from 700 years ago to translate it to a form someone from 300 years ago can translate into a form you can read today.
it's definitely not a huge issue for companies, cuz this is the way to lock you out from using past accessories to the product or just any old cable with generic adapter ports and basically force your to buy a whole new set of cords/accessories whenever you get your newest phone/PC. That's why a lot of phones have different headset ports, and there's like 100 different adapters all on one shelf when you go to your nearest tech store. Compatibility isn't the issue, it's always been the manufacturers' evil master plan to squeeze money out of consumers.
@@wamhu It is DEFINITELY a problem for huge companies, even if the CEOs never see it. They literally let tech sit for decades without upgrading it because it costs a couple dollars, so suddenly when one piece goes bad, say a type of cctv they can't use anymore for legal reasons, instead of just replacing the cameras, they have to replace the entire security system OR add in a workaround. I had to help UDF replace their entire security setup in a lot of their stores back in 2014 for that exact reason. They were still using a VCR to record camera footage, when the newer stores had switched to recording to a hard drive almost 2 decades ago.
@@Necrobadger ah those companies are still the consumers, bad wording on my part. I'm referring to the companies making these systems like the outlets/cords, input/output ports, adapters. It's very much a realizable goal to unify or at least minimize the amount of port types that exist out there, but there's no motivation to achieve this goal because it doesn't generate profit or create monopolies.
You don’t need to be scared of the robots, we need to be scared of the coders. The robot won’t start taking over the world unless the person who coded the robot either coded it to do so, or if they did a poor job of coding the robot.

11:36 ok *_CAMERA_* so basically, the camera that he bought has 3 wires, one for power, one for Coaxial cable( or BNC plug whatever you want to call it), and I think the third one is for ethernet cables. The coaxial and ethernet plug is used for transferring the images of the camera (basically your camera is always active but you need to be able to see it, so you'd attach to coax to a monitor or something, maybe a recorder to record whatever the camera's looking at) *_COAX/HDMI_* What Michael did, is that he hooked up the camera using a coaxial cable with an RCA head on the other side. Then he plugged the RCA into a converter, so that instead of plugging your coaxial cable to a monitor, you can instead convert the coaxial head into a HDMI head. *_WIRELESS HDMI_* Now that you can hook up to the camera using HDMI, he used a wireless HDMI transmitter so that you wouldn't need a long ass cable attached to the dog for the camera to work. afterwards, he used the wireless HDMI receiver to output whatever the camera is seeing into his computer using another HDMI cable. extra info: incase you didn't know why, basically michael has a camera, he needs to send whatever the camera's looking at to his computer so that the computer can process the images (in this case, look for a red cup) and then send commands to the dog to move towards the cup.

i think the reason they gave adam savage a robo dog was because adam savage is the co-host/producer of mythbusters. They aren't a construction company, but they do a lot of construction when they build things for mythbusters. So that may be the reason he got one.
RCA was a old analog video conection for those cathode-ray tube type TVs that got staticky and weird whne you touched the screen. yeah, that security camera uses that as an output. then he needs to make it wireless? he converts it to the holly hdmi. and then the reciever is just a radio box that is conected to that wireless hdmi thingy. and he can conect it all to a computer that does the code processing and sending comands to the dogo. also idk how he attache a battery
he took the footage from camera, made it easy to us with computer, then made it so he can wirelessly transmit it to his computer. aka video goes from camera to laptop.
So to explain the security camera super simply he took a bunch of adapters and upgraded what the camera could be plugged into with each adapter until it became wireless for him to strap onto the dog
