Culber as Jinaal is way more compelling than Culber as Culber. Bad writing was the downfall of Disco, not the talent.

I thought so too. I feel like the Culber actor is usually playing a watered down version of himself. He was way more interesting as Jinaal.

Will we see Tzenketi related stuff next time? Tzenketi Ships? Tzenketi Colonies? Tzenketi themselves?....

The crew seeing Rayner struck me as a nod to the fans complaining none of the bridge crew have an arc. They still don't. And how can Tilly dress down the commander? That would land her in the brig.

To be fair she's not a crew member, she's an advisor from his new boss helping to get him acclimated. It's her job to do that. Plus he's a dick, but I think the point was that he does appreciate her advice

@@universaljointMy point was she has some authority over him in this scenario. And him being to the point or just rude I guess is kinda the point of the story. He feels he's being to the point, but I think the story is trying to imply that wasn't really successful. But I see how you could take it that way. Specifically he is focused on at the end when failure to connect is mentioned, so I think that was the idea they were trying to bring across.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about with the last thing, this doesn't have anything to do with me. It's just how I saw a character in a show we both watched.

I could watch a whole series of Saru/Tarina Federation politics

I skipped every Saru and Adira scene, so boring and unrelated to the plot

    Security teams? Starfleet cutbacks?

Is Mol somehow a Trill too? That was very confusing she infiltrated them so easily. Now she knows the puzzle piece is with Burnham, so there is no point in her doing that.

The weird obeisance to religion bit at the end was kind of ick, but otherwise I'm still liking this stuff. And I like Raynor as a better Jellico. But the potential to communicate with the bugs after starting a fight seemed like a pretty weak setup to test Burnham and Book. And it's funny how whenever anyone says "Moll" I just hear "Maul"

This show is soooo frustrating to watch. The writers don't seem to understand human connection, and only some of the actors can pull it off. (The actor for Grey is real bad) The enormous screen in the trill caves is so obvious. And of course there's like a hundred plot holes with the advanced technology. So much potential and it just never quite gets there. I agree with what you say about there being "no cherry on top". Everything is just serviceable, and I keep waiting for moments of brilliance or true tension and it never happens. The writers seem to think that throwing a scary monster in the middle of an episode is the "cherry".

After binge watching the Fallout Series I feel bad for Discovery airing at this time as Fallout has nailed it straight out of the gate, and hit the ground running in such a way that it immediately justifies a second season.
Going from Disco 5x3 to Fallout 1 through 8 the difference was night and day.

Discovery is leagues behind a lot of other modern scifi. I'm coming off Three Body Problem and this show feels so juvenile and poorly thought out in comparison.

    Is that a Selay alien?

The Stammetts and Culber relationship is a nod to Trek scribe David Gerrold (of the Trouble with Tribbles, and the fan film Blood and Fire) and his pitch for what Bryan Fuller and others made into Discovery, but they took it in a different direction. David did not appreciate the changes and had not seen the third or fourth season.
He bowed out with the one where they killed Culber. He knows they later brought him back, but would not discuss it further. He was at a Silicon Convention in San Jose in 2023 and discussed it with fans.
Even though Blood and Fire also 'buried the gay', he did that as a TNG story originally when it was the 1980s. It became "Symbiosis" and was radically changed, it's just Disco did it wrong.

Although Trek consultant scribe Larry Niven's Caitan MRes from TAS is correct, but tabby girl doctor T'Ana is not a Caitan. She's a Kzinti. They did mess that up on Lower Decks. Her personality is that of the other guys.

Isn't the Tal symbiote well over 700? One of their hosts, Javor Tal, his second host, is from the 2400s judging by his Picard era uniform.

I hope the saurian man is a Llithian in honor of Star Trek scribe James Blish from the novels, who wrote A Case of Conscience, about the Llithians. It would be neat, like them paying homage to Larry Niven and the Kzinti and Caitans.

Grey's new hairstyle is awesome. Hope they don't get dumb and kill Grey or Tal because they are the best breakout minor characters. They already tried to bury Colber and brought him back kinda godlike, and dropped that like a hot potato. And don't kill off Saru either.

Grey - Adira relation is a nonstarter since Grey is an android with the memories of a dead person.
it was Adira moment to move on and let go.

Neither are particularly compelling characters and the actor for Gray is not very good, in my opinion. There was potential with them but it has gone out the window.
