Why do you use two different colored guitars in the rhythm section? I legit want to know. And I also don't know if calling that the "rhythm" section is correct or not.
I use two different guitars because the Ernie Ball (blue) uses hum bucker pickups which are beefier, and the Strat (white) uses single coil pickups which are brighter. It's just another way to add some additional tonal variation to the sound sample.

While you're at it, could you also review the Maono PM320? It's usually on sale and the price are about the same with PD100. Great video as always, I was looking for review of these. It's hard to find one that actually "test" the mic.
Maono mic has impedance of 600 Ohm, my Berringer 8500 is 150 Ohm - does it mean that I will have to have way higher gain on moano to get the same level of signal? More impedance = lower signal = more gain needed? I noticed that out of my 3 dynamic mics from behringer: 8500 (150 Ohm) , SL75C (310 Ohm) and BA85A (300 Ohm) when I connect them directly to my Canon R8 (I am lazy to use audio interface and add it in post - I want good enough instant audio ) - audio level from 8500 was the loudest. Am I correct that if I get Maono PD100 mic which is 600 Ohm the audio will be even lower which means I can't use it without audio interface? Maono's impedance is 4x higher than Behringer 8500
My understanding is that impedance does not indicate a quieter output. To determine which microphone will require more gain you would need to look at the SENSITIVITY of the microphone. That will tell you what is quieter and what is louder. However, you want your preamp to have an input impedance 5-10x your microphones impedance and that may not be the case and then you'll start to hear the frequency response of the higher impedance mics start to be altered. Here's an article from JZ discussing this: intshop.jzmic.com/blogs/blog/microphone-impedance-how-does-it-matter
Great video as always! Can I ask why you do " " with fingers around "broadcast" when you are talking about these mics? I gather it's because they aren't true broadcast mics but I don't really know what that means, what's the difference?
That's the thing, I don't know if there is a real definition of broadcast mic. I've tried to understand it, and the only thing I have been able to come up with from a few discussions with other audio RUclipsrs is that they are versatile and work on a large number of people and they are designed to be used relatively close to the mouth. They should probably do well with handling noise rejection and plosive rejection too, but your guess on what a real "broadcast" mic is, is as good as mine.
Hey! I'm looking to get a condenser mic bundle and consider getting the maono PM320S Condenser Microphone Pack. I would really appreciate if you reviewed it.
I don't currently have that mic and haven't ordered it so it's not currently in the schedule of mics to be reviewed. Perhaps further down the road I'll get around to reviewing it though. Thanks for the suggestions.
I have to say, the reason why people like the v shape microphones is due to the fact they are using it in untreated rooms. I find most of the time sound bounces off around 400 and 700. I think this is why this mic sounds good in an untreated room.
I just used the mic directly with the interface. If you think this was acceptable, then you should be okay with the 2i2. If you're recording at a distance or recording really quiet sound sources then this may not be ideal, just like most dynamics would not be ideal.
I thought it did really well with rotation, in that it was very quiet from the back and sides. Unfortunately, I am very clumsy and a guitarist, so I'll probably go for a different option.
I don't know of any adapters for that. Some cold shoes have a 3/8" threading on them that would allow you to mount it to a microphone stand that has 3/8" threading on it.
I thought it had a bit of a vintage quality on the electric guitar. And by vintage I mean it sounded like it had no fucking tone at all. I have a use for that. Gonna pick this one up for my collection.
Bro full on pelts the box out of frame😂 I love it. After watching this and some other reviews I ordered one of these for my ghetto home studio and discord chat while gaming. I’m impressed thus far with the unit and what you get for the price but frankly I don’t know Jack about mics in the grand scheme of things.
Decent for the price... (especially if you're adding in Compression EQ etc..) its a better mic when used via XLR as the USB pre amps are a bit quiet IMO... also Plosive rejection isn't great. but for $70 its okay.. If you're buying it JUST for the XLR though... then a Rode Podmic would be a better Mic for like $30 more...
What did you think of the sound of the vocals and acoustic guitar in this video? It's not my favorite sound ever, but I think you can make it work for sure if this is what your budget allows.
@@Podcastage i have 0 knowledge about mic .. yes the video you make recording acoustic guitar is beyond my expected quality is it normal or you edited the sound quality..
Thanks for the review. I've been considering this mic but was wondering if it's the same capsule as the pd400x USB/XLR. I'm guessing it isn't, after hearing your review.
It is definitely serviceable, especially if you absolutely need that "podcast-mic" look. However, I do find it a bit thin and grading in sound and don't think I could listen to a very long podcast featuring it.

No this does not need 48v phantom power. This is a dynamic microphone and dynamic microphones do not require phantom power. Ribbon microphones also do not require phantom power. It is condenser microphones which require the +48v phantom power. side note: This doesn't really matter to your question but just sharing the information. Not all condensers require a full +48v phantom power. There are electret condenser mics that require as low as 11-15v of power, and then there are smaller mics like lavalier microphones which are condensers, but only require plug in power which is about 3-5v.
@@Podcastage yoooo this very helpful!! Thankyou very much! As of now im doing my own research about this kind of stuff. Having someone to tell/share this things is much more comfortable rather than doing the research to the internet.
If you're terribly concerned with hiss, something like the cloudlifter would likely be beneficial there (I haven't tried it with this mic). However, I recently did a podcast with the SM7b into the Podtrak P4 and although it was a little hissy, it wasn't the worst. Here's a link to that episode, and you be the judge: ruclips.net/video/8xbxiW2tUu4/видео.html If you're doing multiple mics simultaneously the noise floor will compound upon itself though if you do no mixing and run no gate/spectral denoise. If you already have the mics and interface, I'd just say try it without and determine what your level of acceptable noise is. Then if you feel like you need the lower the noise, try a little bit of spectral denoise, and if that's not good enough then go for a cloudlifter or a mic activator that is similar performance but lower cost.
Hi Bandrew ! Hope I spell it right 😅 Thanks for the amazing work you do and the humour you put in it ! Do you think this one could fit in one of the MXL shock mounts and do you have an idea of the diameter? I searched the interweb for the info but couldn't find it yet.. maybe I'm the only looney having the idea of using that with a shock mount that costs almost the same as the mic.. 😅 Btw, I really like your electric guitar sound !
I know opinions are plenty, but heres mine. As a broadcast mic for podcasts or a home-based internet radio dj, this mic is all you need. It gives a nice warm tone to your voice. As for capturing music, it was about as clear as the muddy Ohio river. Absolute garbage. I wish there was a usb version of this mic that would work with android devices. I have the Maono ao4 and it works well, but I prefer a dynamic for voice-overs.
I don't review headphones. Also, the selection of the microphone doesn't really have any direct impact on the headphones you should get. You should get headphones that are comfortable and that you enjoy the sound of. I suggest checking out The Headphone Show because they provide great coverage of the playback side of things.
Now. I increase the level in my non-linear video editor FINAL CUT PRO X. You don't need to do this in a video editor, you can do this in any DAW or Streaming software.
When he says “post boost” it’s referring to gain boost after recording - hence post, not pre (after, not before recording). Adjusting the 2i2 interface would be “pre” by definition. Post processing would be done in your daw or using outboard gear sent to from your recording device. Seemed like the terminology was partially confusing you so I figured I’d clear it up 👍 As for more Specifics, you’d usually use a plunging to boost a signal (gain, output level in an eq, a compressor or limiter, etc) or just use a tool that boosts the audio file amplitude itself.
I know this is an older video at 9months ago but i recently picking up this Microphone as my other was wasnt working anymore, disclaimer im a noob at all of this and didnt understand the difference between condenser mics and dynamic mic, i have this paired with my m-audio solo, the issue im running into using this for gaming / discord calls, my gain on the m-audio is almost at 10. I'm trying to figure out how to boost the mic input volume without having it peak and cutting out. I have installed equalizer apo and tried to play around with the gain inside of that but still having troubles of having to use the mic super close to my mouth im running windows 11 and the mic volume in the system settings it at 100 already. Discord is also set to 100% as well would anyone happen to have a solution for all of this

@@theragavelan I have bought it and its an ok sounding microphone, its got a nice tonality to it, not very mid forward like most cheapo mics nowadays, does not require too much gain, if this is ur first podcasting mic, it can be good enough, however I think the Zoom ZDM-1 is a better option by spending more in this segment. Glad the video was able to provide you insight in order to make a more informed decision. Happy recording Mr Goldfish.
pd100 or pd200x.which one is better for voice over
Solid review 🤍 can you do a review against fifine am8 using usb c and xlr
Hey. Sorry this is off topic for this video, but if I have a microphone with a cold shoe attached automatically, how do I put it on a boom arm?
I don't know of any adapters for that. Some cold shoes have a 3/8" threading on them that would allow you to mount it to a microphone stand that has 3/8" threading on it.
BRB gonna throw my SM7B into the lake
DON'T DO IT!
I thought it had a bit of a vintage quality on the electric guitar. And by vintage I mean it sounded like it had no fucking tone at all. I have a use for that. Gonna pick this one up for my collection.
Hahaha. I wonder if the Maono team thought "this will be a great effect microphone" when they were designing it.
Hello, I use the pd100 with zoom F3, should I use phantom power? Thank you
Bro full on pelts the box out of frame😂 I love it. After watching this and some other reviews I ordered one of these for my ghetto home studio and discord chat while gaming. I’m impressed thus far with the unit and what you get for the price but frankly I don’t know Jack about mics in the grand scheme of things.
Glad that it's working well for you.
Any thoughts on the Fifine k688?
Decent for the price... (especially if you're adding in Compression EQ etc..)
its a better mic when used via XLR as the USB pre amps are a bit quiet IMO...
also Plosive rejection isn't great.
but for $70 its okay..
If you're buying it JUST for the XLR though... then a Rode Podmic would be a better Mic for like $30 more...
Did a full review a few weeks ago.
Can you do a review of the Fduce SL40?
Perhaps I will check it out in the future.
Can i use this for recording vocals and acoustic guitar .. not professional just amateur use only..
What did you think of the sound of the vocals and acoustic guitar in this video? It's not my favorite sound ever, but I think you can make it work for sure if this is what your budget allows.
@@Podcastage i have 0 knowledge about mic .. yes the video you make recording acoustic guitar is beyond my expected quality is it normal or you edited the sound quality..
sounded better than the zoom thats crazy
Pretty wild how affordable audio gear has become.
Thanks so much for your sharing
1vs1 mic compare. Great one. Thanks for the review
Awesome review
I use these for my podcast. Build quality is great!
That's great that it's working for your show. All of this gear is about making content. Well done Bryant on finding what works for you.
Thanks for the review. I've been considering this mic but was wondering if it's the same capsule as the pd400x USB/XLR. I'm guessing it isn't, after hearing your review.
It is not.
I haven't tried the 400x so I can't verify, but as the other person said, they don't think it is.
will you do the maono pd400x review?
I don't have one and haven't bought one so it's not on my schedule yet.
It is definitely serviceable, especially if you absolutely need that "podcast-mic" look. However, I do find it a bit thin and grading in sound and don't think I could listen to a very long podcast featuring it.
Yeah not the best sounding mic but it's cheap and it actually functions without any complete deal breakers.
IMO this microphone is decent a little on the dry sounding side the mids and highs are 25% low.
Thank you very much for the comment.
do u recommend dis for recording audio? like singing? tnx in advance
I share my thoughts on the overall sound and brief thoughts on different applications in the review. Then the section after that I discuss my recommendation of it. Check the timestamp starting at 10:57
But why are we dropping the mouse😂
revisit behringer c-1 plz
I may have to do that eventually. Thanks for the suggestion.
IDK why but i like this one o.0 I usually go for "flat" or reference neutral mics, with no, or as little as possible coloration... Someone explain pls
I can't explain. You like what you like.
Review the new Rode podmic USB and At2040USb and compare them please!!!
I will review the podmec usb. I was unaware that there was an AT2040USB version so that's not even ordered yet.
Just asking, i am new to this audio things and im looking for a mic like this. Does this need 48v phantom power? Do all dynamic mics need it? Thanks
I loved the design... and sounds pretty good
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Some people are definitely going to love that V shape.
Thank you for your review. Do you think a cloudlifter or similar is needed to use this microphone with Zoom Podtrak P4? Thanks.
If you're terribly concerned with hiss, something like the cloudlifter would likely be beneficial there (I haven't tried it with this mic). However, I recently did a podcast with the SM7b into the Podtrak P4 and although it was a little hissy, it wasn't the worst. Here's a link to that episode, and you be the judge: ruclips.net/video/8xbxiW2tUu4/видео.html
If you're doing multiple mics simultaneously the noise floor will compound upon itself though if you do no mixing and run no gate/spectral denoise. If you already have the mics and interface, I'd just say try it without and determine what your level of acceptable noise is. Then if you feel like you need the lower the noise, try a little bit of spectral denoise, and if that's not good enough then go for a cloudlifter or a mic activator that is similar performance but lower cost.
@@Podcastagethanks for your comprehensive reply, you are the best. Keep uploading!
Hi Bandrew ! Hope I spell it right 😅
Thanks for the amazing work you do and the humour you put in it !
Do you think this one could fit in one of the MXL shock mounts and do you have an idea of the diameter?
I searched the interweb for the info but couldn't find it yet.. maybe I'm the only looney having the idea of using that with a shock mount that costs almost the same as the mic.. 😅
Btw, I really like your electric guitar sound !
is this mic need 48V phantom power?
not need. just an audio interface can work for it
I know opinions are plenty, but heres mine.
What is the best headset you recommend to use together with this microphone, please?
I don't review headphones. Also, the selection of the microphone doesn't really have any direct impact on the headphones you should get. You should get headphones that are comfortable and that you enjoy the sound of. I suggest checking out The Headphone Show because they provide great coverage of the playback side of things.
How do you adjust the post boost? Do you do it on the 2i2?
Seemed like the terminology was partially confusing you so I figured I’d clear it up 👍 As for more
Specifics, you’d usually use a plunging to boost a signal (gain, output level in an eq, a compressor or limiter, etc) or just use a tool that boosts the audio file amplitude itself.
Wow😮 this one is a shocker tho 😂i didn't expect it to sound this good
Nice review sur ✅🙏🔊
Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it.
I know this is an older video at 9months ago but i recently picking up this Microphone as my other was wasnt working anymore, disclaimer im a noob at all of this and didnt understand the difference between condenser mics and dynamic mic,
i have this paired with my m-audio solo, the issue im running into using this for gaming / discord calls, my gain on the m-audio is almost at 10. I'm trying to figure out how to boost the mic input volume without having it peak and cutting out.
I have installed equalizer apo and tried to play around with the gain inside of that but still having troubles of having to use the mic super close to my mouth
im running windows 11 and the mic volume in the system settings it at 100 already.
Discord is also set to 100% as well
would anyone happen to have a solution for all of this
please try a maono condenser
Maybe a little bit further in the future I'll check them out.
Do u gonnaa make test with pd200 or pd400?
pd200 more plastic and rgb light like a kid😂
A great microphone for 50 bucks brother!! I am waiting for this one to be launched in India soon! But the SM7B is if not 8 times better, its still maybe 4 or 5 times better, it justifies its price and reputation. I hope you are doing alright🙏🏻
AB - Glad to hear from you. I'm doing well here, and I hope everything is going fantastic for you.
@@Podcastage Your well wishes and videos keep me motivated & alive, I am doing just fine, thankyou for taking out the time to reply to my comment, god bless you always🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@agambhasin Have you bought it? I'm asking since it's available here in Amzn IND. I wanted to know your experience with it.
This one is a no nonsense mic and can work very well until you hear better sounding mics in this segment. The XM-8500 is still a better microphone, e835 from sennheiser, Shure SV200 & their own Maono AU HD 300 sound way better than this one, but they are all handheld style mics, usually people are buying mics based on looks these days, which is not something I personally prefer, all in all this is an ok mic for the price
Is this better than Maono HD300T?
The HD300t is an XLR and USB mic...this is an XLR mic. It's going to come down to your use case and which sound profile you prefer the sound of. If you're just looking for an XLR mic the 300t is likely paying for features you don't need.
