- This is another piece that isn't mine. This beautiful song is by Chartwell Dutiro and it is played on the Mbira. I met Chartwell at a talk/discussion at Dartington Hall at the MA festival and he was kind enough to give me one of his albums. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I have and if you enjoy it enough try and buy his album(s). It's worth it.
Only one photo in this video is mine and I do not take credit for the others.
I heard Chartwell when I was in my teens, 20 years ago. His music is a blessing. Love you Chartwell, RIP your music still reverbs here with us and in this cosmos and this life.
Chartwell taught mbira at the School of African & Asian Studies (SOAS) in London in the 90s...the most mellow teacher you could imagine. Lovely man. Used to play with Thomas Mapfumo and Blacks Unlimited back in the day.
Fly well sweet Chartwell, your music will live on.
Randomly discovered this as a teenager on Tumblr, so sad to hear of his passing - this song has given me a lot of comfort and peace
Sweet Jesus Lord of light ... I feel connected to the greater love with this music - thank all that is holy, thank you to this music and everyone and everything that has allowed me to listen to this now, and cry such beautiful tears - I feel st
very good song, deserves more view
Thank you Chartwell 🎶 RIP
This is awesome! I discovered Chartwell's music on Pandora Radio one day. (The song was Changamire: Africa Calling Mix) I remember checking out a few of his albums. I fell in love with Mbira. He is definitely one of the most nicest people I met.
Hey I saw you on dope or nope I'm sorry for both of your loses god shall bless you for all those you loss
@@Flexuring Thanks! You saw my comment about Chartwell's passing?
this is definitely fantastic music
I like this song
I've had a couple of workshops with chartwell and he's an utterly incredible man. Meeting with him tomorrow for a mbira class😁 absolutely love this track :) thanks for uploading!
Soul food nomnomnom
Love Chartwell, loved working with him, miss him
ha .. i just found myself here too Yvette. I think you put me in the quiet please baritone at the back area in voice! Gilbert
Hello Yvette do you know if any copies the CD "TaDenDa" still exist , or in fact whether people actually know they still hav it : it's a CD which is nearly 18 years old !
❤
@lobajii The musicians on the album are Chartwell Dutiro, Elmar Pohl, and Sebastian Pott :)
Thank you.
lobajii ... the answer is that it does not actually mention who playsd hosho. Elmar Pohl is a master of precise time hosho (& great spoons player), Chartwell Dutiro more rhythmic & deep. I can't tell which this might be ... maybe its neither? Album apparently recorded one afternoon at home. Superb mbira throughout. Totally recommended CD, the Marenje is a dense jungle!
Nice song my Bro!
Changamire (The Respected One) was also track 1 on Chartwell Dutiro "TaDenDa" : (Thankyou ... or ...Many Thanks ) : his self released CD with the distinctive yellow cover - not a comercially available CD from a record company. The CD is very difficult to find these days ; the track on that CD is similar to what this take sounds like , but Chartwell Dutiro was accompanied by Nicola Purtell (vocal backing) , and also by Christopher Morphitis on guitar. I did hav a copy in 2006 ; does anyone else possess one?
POV: you looking in the comments of the homework video
Rest peacefully
I've only just found out because of this comment. That's a real shame to the world!
@@Leprecaun123 He was definitely a great friend! Full of humor! We had a great share of laughs! I miss him so much!
@@gonzo4057 when did your paths cross?
Are you sure this is changamire? It sounds really different to the Chartwell Changamire I bought on iTunes :P
George Day This was from a CD I bought from him. Unless it's titled wrong on the CD?
George Day It could just be in a different tuning from the version you got on iTunes. This sounds like Changamire in Dindinyongwe village tuning to me.
Jeffrey Golay hmmmmm I went onto iTunes and bought 'Changamire, Africa Calling Mix' but that sounds like a totally different song to me... Joe do you know which CD it is? I'd really like to buy it!
George Day Sure! chartwelldutiro.com/music/ It's called Chivaraidze. I don't know how to buy it online though. I bought it from him personally.
Hi guys. This is Changamire. The song on Africa Calling mix is actually Kuzanga. I don't know why they used the title Changamire there.
