Interesting to note, the Engineer is the only Mercenary in the main comics who's BLU instead of RED. And some of the characters seem to be looking suspiciously at him in the art at the top of the TF2 main page...
If Fred is the father of Dale, it is possible that the Spy new this and merely knocked him out. Although somewhat uncharacteristic, Spy is known to have a soft side, namely for his son, but perhaps it carries over. Or perhaps Fred isn’t even Engie’s father. For all we know, it could’ve been a rival.
I think it's worth noting Fred is the only TFC merc who we never see die in the comics, so it's entierly possible that he and Dell could meet in the final comic, if it ever comes out, that is.
Actually, Fred is shown about once or twice in the latest Tf2 comic. Especially in the Naked and the Dead. It is the TFC engineer named Fred. Not sure if it's the same Fred.
"Engineer's role on the comic was more of the 'behind the scenes.'" Ironic, cause the Engineer's role in the game is to be a backline's support role rather than the damage dealer
I have always wondered why the Administrator keeps Engi on the reject team when he's possibly one of the smartest people in the world. I would say it's to keep him from getting killed, but the other mercenaries are still a huge threat to him. He's also a priceless asset to her, assuming he's the only person other than Gray who can repair life-extending machines. It may be possible that while most people in the TF2niverse are of average intelligence, some may be just as intelligent - if not more intelligent - than the Engineer, and she simply "trusts" him (as much as she would trust anyone) because of her relationship with his grandfather. There's also the possibility of Radigan being alive, because Australium makes people into geniuses. As the Administrator rightly points out, Australium would make him much smarter than the Australians because he was a super-genius to begin with. It's quite possible that he's still out there somewhere, and even if he is dead, he could have played a much larger role in the story than anyone knows.
FreeToPlay Scout but in Loose Canon Engi says that the blueprints were buried with him. That confirms that Radigan is dead. But what I find strange is where is Red Engi during TF comics? he only shows up in the update comics. ( even though in Blood in the water Pauling Mentions that Engi is off the grid while still assembling the Merc’s )
@@ceceliaacaba2739 Radigan likely is dead, but I'm not discounting the possibility that he COULD be alive somewhere after faking his death. The whole universe doesn't make much sense and anything seems to be on the table (given the fact that zombies, magic, heal beams, near-immortality, and inhuman abilities are canon). As for RED Engi, he's the same guy as the BLU Engi. It's confirmed that in the actual TF2 lore outside of the game, there's only one of each of the mercenaries and they change teams. The "other" team is just an arbitrary group of individuals who are never really shown in any detail. In Expiration Date, we do see some enemy mercs that reuse TF2 models, but we never get a close look at their faces. Miss Pauling also only interviews RED team (in-game mercs) but does mention that there's a separate BLU team who we don't see the videos for. During and after the events of MvM, the mercs just all change their uniforms to red as Gray's army and the TFC mercs adopt the blue color-scheme. Engi still wears BLU, but there was actually a scene in the comics where they accidentally drew him RED then changed the clothes for consistency with the other panels in which he is talking to the Administrator about the life-extenders. The only reasoning I could see for this change is to connect the issue with "Loose Canon" in which he is working for BLU while studying the life-extender. Like I said, there is a ton of stuff that isn't explained and very little is confirmed. As far as I understand, the events that occur in-game, the Robotic Boogaloo trailer, and the comic "Death of a Salesbot" are the only things that are non-canon.
The thumbnails are quite interesting. Engie's the only one among the mercenaries who has an "important" label, then we have the others, who have "dangerous" labels, "insane" labels then we have demo's "drunk" label.
4:22 I had the same problem. I've looked all over for the source of that info. I eventually found it though. Turns out it's not the manual, it's the blueprints that show up before you place down a building. Each of them are dated 1965.
Great job. Seriously, I couldn't have this much patience to stick together all those hints in order to recreate a timeline of the life of all the mercenaries. Again, great job.
I just noticed one thing, the engineer with no legs on the comics is literally Dell's father, and he wasn't show to be dead at all, so maybe in the last comic we may got some family reunion kind of thing?

If you think about it Engie might be one of the crazier mercs in the team. He has lucrative contracts with the sentry gun patent, is the personal assistant to the Administrator(?), could apply for virtually any high-skill discipline on the planet (military contractor, cutting-edge technician etc.). . . and despite all of these sources of income, he STILL drives out to the desert to creatively kill people every day. What a guy.

My theory when it comes to the sentry is that Radigan actually created the original Mini Sentry alongside the Gunslinger, afterwards the blueprints were buried with him and probably only left a couple prototypes and early sketches around, which lead to the TFC Engineer designing his own, much bulkier Sentry Gun since he probably figured the Mini was too weak for serious defensive work, which lead to the TF2 Engie probably reverse engineering and modernizing Radigan's mini sentries, making them a much higher caliber, and giving them the ability to be upgraded like the TFC sentries, but never got around to doing the same with the original design, since he saw no point in it, since his design was much stronger and versatile than Radigan's original.
