Thanks for posting this update, life continues to throw curveballs as you get older that experience only just keeps you ahead of the game. I find such relief in being around the mountains and special places like Iona, and am aware that I need to get on with it and not waste any time. I would recommend a book called ‘in the land of Giants’ by Max Adams. In his book he explores the connection between Ireland and Scotland and how this Celtic religion has shaped the English Kings through places like Iona. Can’t wait for the series to start. Yesterday i walked Cùl Mòr from Knochan Crags where we stayed the night. The view when it opens West to Lewis over Lochinver and of Suilven was just so breathtaking, the finest I can recall, and perfect conditions. I am now so grateful every time I walk and get back without foot pain or other issues, and say a little prayer of thanks that I might look forward to another hill. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all you do.
Living Legend Cameron Glad to see you back on the hills, I know recently will have been tough for you, its no fun getting older. I've recognised this at a younger age and taken the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while I can. I lived out my car for 5 weeks and hiked 74 munros, it was an incredible experience and I've never felt more alive. I bagged the 9 Fannichs in one day and numerous other massive hikes. its given me memories for life and also made sure I have no regrets. Live life to the full, you never know whats round the corner.
Wonderful to see you back in the Scottish landscape sharing your plans for the up coming adventure. Pleased to see a definite improvement in your mobility too . Good luck and best wishes.
Great to see you back on our screens and on the hills again. Exciting times ahead 😊. It’s also great that you’ve shared news about your injuries. As we get old we all get our aches and pains so it’s reassuring to know that help is always there and that the hills are not about elite athletes getting up and down a Munro without and aches or being breathless as some RUclips clips would have us believe 👍
Good stuff Cameron. Wonderful views there. The project travelling around Ireland sounds excellent. A country I know very little off so will be fascinating to learn more from your travels. Its a shame no one could sponsor you to travel to Banff National Park to tell the story of John Muir. This is why we need a proper Scottish television channel. Atb.
Great to see you back Cameron. I remember years back your “Wilderness Walks” TV series, one programme of which featured Donnie Munro ex Runrig (surely one of Scotland’s finest ever folk / rock bands). Another in the series featured Chris Brasher. I used to work for Chris at the Brasher Boot Co. in the early / mid 1990s and remember meeting you when we used you for PR etc. Happy days indeed.
Hi Cameron, glad to see you back on your feet. I went to a podiatrist on Friday, as I've had big toe joint pain for years. She told me I have extra bone growth in there and arthritis setting in. Annoying, as I'm just in my 40's. She recommend walking shoes with rocking motion, to take the pressure off the metatarsals. She said inserts might aggravate the pain. I found The northface are having a sale. I got some of their vectiv hypnum walking shoes, as they are the right shape. They arrived today. So far so good. I feel no pressure on the metatarsals. You lucky man, I love Ireland. Cork and Kerry are just braw.
I've been wearing Hokas. They're really good shoes with a rocker sole and lots of cushioning. I think I was in my mid-forties when I first experienced pain in my toe. It's been a long haul but if you can treat the symptoms without surgery that's great.
They sound like good shoes. I'll keep an eye out for them too. The podiatrist recommended I get an x-ray to see what's going on in there properly. Fingers crossed for no surgery. I'm itching to get out walking in the better weather.
Hi Cameron, It's good to see you back out and about, despite the other issue causing you some pain and discomfort. I can imagine how this may affect you, as I've been experiencing something similar. I met with a NHS consultant who thinks I may have developed a condition they call Morton's Neuroma and I think it may be a bit like the condition you've just described. I know a guy who developed similar issues while he was training with the Royal Marines. He told me he was given special orthotic insoles which have really helped him. Good luck on your travels and with the new project. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you on your channel. All the best.
I'm glad that you're on the mend and getting back our walking. I hope to have my own op in the next couple of months and look forward to being able to walk in places other than dead flat canal tow paths (as interesting as they are, now they have been losing their appeal after more than 12 months). The proposed book sounds interesting and I'll be watching out for the videos.
Hi Cameron - I simply echo all the comments below. May the force be with you on your west coast adventures thsi year. BTW where is this video shot? Somwhere in the Monadhliath perhaps?
Hello Cameron, i found your videos on this Big Toe issue! I was searching for someone that had gone through the fusing op. Sounds like it has been a success for you, but not without hiccups, such as the other pains.. but over all would you say it was a good move to do it? I am considering it... finally! too much ongoing pain. I am not a walker - but i train in pilates. so a bit worried about that side of things! But im sure I will somehow be able to accommodate the new version of foot... eventually! I look forward to hearing your thoughts 1 year on Thanks J

Great to see you back on the hill. Sounds like a great adventure you have planned. Good luck with it - look forward to the videos and both books👍
looking forward to some uploads on youre journey cameron.
Great to see you back in your element Cameron It reminds me of what my ex-partner (who likened me to a bird) said to me - "The bird must fly."

A wee hill in Glen Banchor, just outside Newtonmore.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors Thanks Cameron. I've 'done' Glen Banchor, but didn't recognise the layout and features. I must go back again!!
