@otakugamer16 I didn't think about it like this but yes it's pretty similar to GOW, of course it's gonna be similar to other souls like, but since you can "become" other characters it's like playing a game where you have a party, like in RPGs. There are no difficulty options, but there are items around the BOSS that you can get to restrain him, such as the BOSS "White Wolf" in the first trailer, and you can get the "Fire Knife" before you reach the BOSS area.
This game makes me so happy. As a Chinese American who grew up on Journey to the West, I remember being made fun of and called ‘weird’ if I talked about Sun Wukong in elementary and middle school. Seeing how beautiful this game is, and people’s appreciation for the Chinese culture, makes me so emotional. This is representation done very very well.

I will NEVER agree with people argument on the difficulty choice. Some people do not want to struggle and fail over and over again maybe they are just not good or do not have the time or even slightly handicapped. People should have the choice how to play.
Agreed, about a month ago the game development approached players of different levels to try it out and collected their difficulty feedback. I am also curious about how would balance if there were no difficult choices. After all, they claim that this is not a soul like game.

I like to start on easy then work my way to max difficulty playing the story over again each time harder than before. Isn’t that another way to both challenge yourself and enjoy the game to the fullest?

It's an Action RPG that wants to Target ALL Audiences, casual and hardcore. That is why when you die, it's very forgiving and you only lose small amounts of EXP. That is why you gain another health bar when you transform, it's the same reason why magic is so strong. It's to cater to everyone. Despite only having One difficulty level, it's there to help players who are not used to action games get hits on the boss, learn, and have fun without feeling that it's hopeless. For hardcore players who crave a challenge, if you can beat the boss quick, they might have a secret phase 2 that is even harder so you are able to get that challenge or secret bosses that are much harder but in the same zone accessible through secrets. A casual player can ignore them til they get stronger but a hardcore player can tackle these bosses earlier. The method of story telling is also closer to God of War. With Cutscenes and focusing on dialogue, emotions, relationships between characters that might have nothing to do with combat.

I dropped $2,200 USD to build a gaming PC rig just for this game and it looks stunning and better than the original videos made in unreal engine 4.

It is hard. But you also can transform into bosses, 3 stance, and a dozen combat skills to choose from. It’s not souls you can only slash and block😅
