My oh my did things ever fill in! 😍Can hardly see any blue pots at all for all the lush plants & flowers. Yes, that new pathway sure makes it easier for you to get thru your garden & it looks pretty, too.
I had to do an early “Chelsea chop” on a couple of things in my garden that were taking over…one thing was my passion flower vine. It was growing up my tree & into a part of the garden I don’t want it in. My goodness I had no idea it was going to be this happy, I also chopped the buds off my dusty miller. They were getting so big.
I occasionally watch Jo’s Tx garden & have been so surprised at how far ahead her garden is over the AL coast.
I had to become a grown up to appreciate gardening but I must say I had more fun outside as a kid & into my 40’s on my bicycle heading out on adventures. I kept that up until we moved to an area that was just not interesting.lol I miss it. (Girl I know you’ve got a great area to ride your bike…you shared it with us once.)
Lightnin’ bugs! Yes! I remember seeing them everywhere when I was a kid & even when my kids were young. We live at a small lake with woods to the right of it & it’s just been in the last couple of years that I started noticing lightning’ bugs are back. So happy about that.
Rachel is that big fat pitcher plant one that I sent you that possibly made it? I remember I sent one just like it that I have. I’m so hoping😊
Enjoyed your video so much. You are truly an amazing gardener. Hugs ~ Linda in GA

Isn’t that crazy, Linda, that Jo’s garden in Houston is about 3 weeks ahead of us in growth?!? She most assuredly is in another gardening zone! They changed her to Zone 9b, and I can see why! - Oh! I don’t want all your playing outside as a kid to have been better than now! You should definitely move down here and bike in Gulf State Park. You will make so many discoveries! My daughter and I have seen so many bunnies and alligators and beach mice and blue herons eating snakes. You never know what you will see out there. Plus, it’s just so pretty, AND you can go to the beach while bike riding. We always ride over the bridge that goes across to the pavilion and walk out to the water. I forget everything out there. My daughter is the one who says that we have to be heading back most of the time. Haha! I hope you’ e been having a ton of fun this week!!! God bless you!!!!!

Rachel the way the light is coming through the trees and illuminating your garden is so magical!! I can’t wait to see those Mexican sunflowers come to life! I love you garden philosophy about not being to excited and hoping that allows the plants to live, that is literally how I mentally prepare myself for garden success, plan on failure and you will always be delighted 😂 I so agree about playing outside as an adult you never have to play pretend! You think it, do it, create it, and bring your dreams to life! Katana was so delighted with your butterflies and lizards 🦎

Rachel your garden is growing so quickly!!! We've had way too much rain! I worked outside yesterday and it was hot and humid! 🥵 More rain today. I've only seen a few hummingbirds at my feeders. Only a few butterflies have fluttered by. I have the same problem you have but with the Bluebirds. Five fledged and they always go to other yards!😢
I love fireflies! We usually see them in our yard starting in June.😊 I'm still searching for coral nymph salvia. Should I purchase seeds? Our trip to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens at the end of April was so wonderful. 😊
Have a wonderful week enjoying your gardens. 🙋‍♀️🌱🐦🐛🦋

Oh, Tammy! I hope that your garden hasn’t gotten waterlogged and been beaten down! We had terrible wind and I’m shocked that I only lost one salvia from the storm! - LOL about the bluebirds! It’s like everyone wants to grow up and move aa far away from home as they can get! - Oh, yeah! You can totally grow coral nymph saliva from seed if you can’t find it anywhere! Check your pinterest messages! - I’ve never been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I’m so glad to hear that it is worth it! I need to start doing field trips to more gardens! It makes me giddy to see them in person and to recognize old plant friends and be introduced to new ones! I hope that you are having a blessed week!!!!!

Happy Sunday! Such a gardening 👩‍🌾 inspirational video. I enjoy looking forward to Sunday because you have your weekly filming in your beautiful garden. Not sure how you seem to manage all your babies 🌸 🌹 and work and busy with life stuff. I find myself getting overwhelmed at times because it’s just not enough hours in a day to get it all in. This year I told myself that I was going to downsize on my plants but somehow it has not happened yet. I’m in zone 9b so my gardening season is similar to yours Rachel.
Keep up the good job Mrs Sunshine, may God continue to strengthen you as you bring some beauty into this corrupt 🌍 .

      So true.
Zone 9b in Louisiana is so hot and humid.

Hi Rachel 😀 I can't believe your garden. I looked back to the 30th March, and there is no comparison. I'm always amazed at how quickly plants grow over there, and you still have so much to look forward to, absolutely beautiful 😍 and such diversity. Nothing has changed in my garden since last week 😅 it's very slow at this time of the year, and then suddenly, when the temperatures are right, it will all take off. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. 🙋‍♀️

    • @gulfcoastbutterflygardening
      @gulfcoastbutterflygardening  6 месяцев назад +1

Thank you, Kim!!! I didn’t realize how much the temperatures affected the growth rate of the plants until this spring since it is usually warmer than I want it to be most of the time down here. But this spring has been consistently cooler, and that really showed in the way the roses loved it and all the other plants balked at it. LOL! One good thing about that is your garden doesn’t run wildly ahead of you like a dog off its leash! Haha! I’m so thankful that you have so many goodies to look forward to, especially the dahlias!!!

Now I know where the name Lamb's Ear come from - I never saw a blossom but it really looks like a sheep head with ears! That is so beautiful and sweet - as sweet as the woolly, soft leaves that I thought gave the plant a name. The view of the fountain is wonderful with those salvia celebrating behind it and the sweet border in front and the music it plays is hypnotic. LOVE that entrance view. You know that there are ultra violet colors that only birds or insects can see and your blue salvia (at 11.00) looks like it might have a bit of that in it. It is SOOO vibrant. I NEED some licorice plant - like a neon light to brighten some dark areas. WOW What kind of lavender is that at 19.10? The flowers are amazing!!!!! It's been too cool at night for them to hatch out much. Had a few for just a few nights but am waiting for the bi-annual show in May. We bought our acre lot in the city due to the fireflies when we were looking to build. It took our breath away - mostly uncut overgrown woods around and we built in the middle of one lot where we cleared only enough to build. Now I know why the 'show' isn't as big anymore as more people have moved into the neighborhood and built homes and raked leaves. We could watch them all in the lower story, then rise to the upper story and finally fly away with a partner into the sky. What a show! Once they all mate, the show is over. Isn't nature amazing.I'm going to come back and view again as I need to write down some of the names I didn't recognize but want. Thank you for the video!

      @gulfcoastbutterflygardening  6 месяцев назад

Oh, Mary! I didn’t see it myself in the lamb’s ear bloom until you pointed it out! They do have the cutest “faces” and darling little ears! - I hope that you will have a bumper crop of fireflies this year! I hope they are rebounding and making a super big comeback, never to be diminished again! Did you name your house Firefly Cottage? That would be appropriate! Every once in a while I try to come up with a name for our house. None of them ever stick. Toad Hall might be fun. LOL! - That lavender is aromatico. I hope you will have better results with it than I have. Maybe what I need is to put it in a terracotta pot?!?

  • @JosTXGarden

    Hi Rachel!!!
Where would our gardens be without salvia? I have so many kinds.
I’m so jealous of the clematis. Houston hates them.🤣
The hydrangeas are so lovely. And wow! Those dahlias!
My attempt at copying you with the millet fizzled out. They were like, “Thanks for getting me started in that little pot, and putting me out in the garden, but this is my last day. Peace out. ✌️ 😵”
It’s like the universe doesn’t want me to add anything tall and maroon to my garden! I keep trying different things!
lol I’ve got so many sunflowers planted by the squirrels, which we feed to entertain the indoor cats!
I love everything about that brick path. Very Secret Garden! And lots of pretty foliage makes the combinations flow together.
Oh, I just want to walk around an talk about it all! (As usual!)
Watching that hollyhock. Mine always succumb to rust. Ugh.
All your different “vistas” are so beautiful!
Ok, so I’ve already gone to the nursery looking for a licorice plant 🤣 (no luck)!
    The queen of propagation rides!
    🤠 🐎 🌱 🌸
Oh my goodness! I can’t believe you have to wait that long for gulf frits. I had no idea!
Cosmos ARE bratty! You hit the nail on the head right there, my gardening friend. SO. BRATTY. I feel like that gif of the ostrich chasing a baby giraffe and it says “let me love you!!!!” I’m the ostrich and cosmos it the baby giraffe. (I have gotten a FEW double click cranberry cosmos to grow where I put them. A VERY few. Like, maybe three. Meanwhile Monty Don just grows them like, “no big deal”. (Also his clematis, but I don’t want to talk about it. 🤣🤣😒)
Bonus: three butterflies host on frogfruit! phaon crescent, white peacock, and common buckeye! 🎉🎉🎉
So many fat cats! Such a pretty EBS! I swear half the butterflies I see in my garden are EBS!
Anoles are masters of the side-eye.
    Taunty-McTaunter 🤣🤣🤣#EveryButterflyInMyGarden
When they flap in, ignore all my flowers, and flap back over the fence…. I’m hollering, “you’ll be back! There are no flowers in that yard!! Just a swimming pool and some boxwood! You’ll be sorryyyyy!” 🤷🏼‍♀️
I love seeing your other garden! Thank for sharing it to us! You really inspired me to talk my way into Camp Allen letting me plant that parking lot garden.
    Oooo that froggggggg💕💕💕
Is that him croaking in the background?
We called them lightening bugs too!
Thank you for the amazing tour!❤️
