Tom, Brilliant vid mate, just found your site and it really is a breath of fresh air, this is stuff that is sadly getting forgotten, my Grandad would be smiling from ear to ear watching this.
Everyone NOW is so full of big carp, huge Barbel etc that this style of Fishing is DOOMED....I dont think so!!!!????.
Keep up the style of TRUE Fishing and lets all have a go at topping your 36+lbs of quality fish
    CHEERS IAN

tom tom tom well sir you was not joking when you said we are in for a treat!!! . what unbelievable fishing on punch and whip , nearly 27lb of roach and 3 lumps as well. I did 20lb once years ago on punch of a canal but it's a lot harder now I think . you show your versatility to adapt to all methods and the fact catching roach or carp you love it all . well done again pal cheers Andy Watts

Very well done Tom! Bread is a great bait but finding the fish is the first step and the most important in winter, I think.

Hello Mate! Yes, it can be devastatingly effective during the winter. I'm always surprised how quickly the fish find it! I might go back to this spot soon and see if I can get a few bigger ones with bigger bits of bread, or even try hemp and tares. I used to fish hemp a lot when I was younger and do very well, but since I moved south, I've not found it to be as effective, which is strange. I've been reading that people do well on the river Thames with it though, so I'll be giving that a go in the summer!

we used ta use these small landing nets when silver fishing... just about get 3lb bream in em...less disturbance on water etc.... great fishing i never come close to getting a catch like that on a lake...let alone a canal. . . i kinda dropped out of club and a few open match fishing mid 80's when me kids got bigger, didnt have the time etc... i think im kinda saving fishing for when i retire perhaps..... i cant still pass a river or lake without chekin swims out..... good one

Get on it. I might even see you down there! Next time, I'm thinking about fishing with really big bread punches, or even flake, see if I can sort out the bigger ones!

I said this on a previous video, but it's worth repeating, get 'em feeding on sweetcorn, it sorts out the better roach! 4mm expander pellet works too but you may find smaller fish take them.

Check it out: the canals can throw up the odd nice surprise, plus they're a great place to get a few bites when the going's tough. Where abouts are you?
