Growing up in rural East Texas in the mid to late 1960’s fireflies were an every night occurrence on the warm summer nights and in mass quantities. In the same rural areas today to see them is a rarity and only a few at a time.
This is so good to see. It's such an awful thing to see how few insects there are left, and the lack of fireflies is as big a flag as the lack of bugs on the windshield.

Three years ago I saw the first firefly show in Garner State Park, it was a very magical moment!
