- Starting the year off with bravery, returning to my percussive style with some tentative improvisation.
I'm trying to learn to improvise with more confidence via my sketches on Patreon each week, because it's just not something I have had much experience of - my classical training simply didn't cover this area of music making at all and I know it can be quite a scary prospect to do something new and different, when your conditioning has always given you the message, "be perfect."
I felt like returning to acoustic percussion this week as I haven't been doing so much of it online recently, and I hadn't planned for this to be improvisatory, but as I fleshed out the groove and the chords it just seemed to happen naturally in the second half. It was still scary recording this and having no idea how it was going to turn out - but I'm learning that's a good reason to do it anyway.

Do you have a click track on the headset? The rhythm feels so locked on. Of course, it could just be talent!
I wear the headphones so I can hear the reverb through the monitor, it helps me to get in the zone and feel more comfortable recording these clips! And there's nothing wrong with a click track on a project that needs it, but that's not really necessary here.
