There are lots of reasons why this song is special. I first played this arrangement for a bridal procession at a wedding around 6-7 years ago, for a lovely couple called Hershil and Krupa. It was such a fun and original idea that I kept playing it at weddings after that, and it became a staple of my modern repertoire. Then last July I played this during the wedding ceremony of my friends Alice and Chance. I hadn't realised until later that evening that it was also their first dance, as this song is particularly special to Chance. It was a really beautiful moment and I was honoured to have made another connection with this timeless song.
I have arranged the upload of this video with Alice as a surprise for Chance, to mark their anniversary. Surprise dude!! :D
Adding the finger clicks to this arrangement seemed like the obvious way to get a sense of the great percussion backing from the original song into this version, and seems deceptively easy to do until you start trying to add in all of the vocal line to the right hand too! Playing this over the years has definitely helped me to improve my finger click tone and consistency, although the keen-eared may notice a difference in pitch between my right and left hands that I honestly can't explain to you. The bassline is equally simple sounding but fiddly to execute, and relies on a "clean up" method whereby each finger is replaced as the next plays in order to stop previous notes from ringing. This is a technique I've borrowed from my former Jazz Harp professor and general idol, the magnificent Park Stickney.
Thanks to:
Ben Turk - Director, audio, post-production
John Hoskison - Camera op, post-production
Alice & Chance - for your inspiring love story. x

I love the sass behind evey finger snap.
The fact that you can see the strings vibrate in waves is so cool!!!
Hannah L it's the rolling shutter effect
I dont seee a fucking thing just listening
It's due to the rolling shutter of her camera, it's just an optical illusion.
@@LoreSka , not really an illusion, strings do vibrate, but our eyes could not really see it in reality :)

Wow...I had no idea that snapping fingers can add so much to the music. A gorgeous performance that made me instantly become a fan of harp!!! Thank you! Oh, and the filming and the lighting are also great!
...and she gets such a great, crisp snap, from both hands!!!
You believe too easily!
Oh, to have young, agile fingers like yours again.
When somebody becomes a master of their instrument, then they can play and develop new things and arrangements of high quality, its wonderful... Amy puts her heart into her original pieces, and it can be felt.
Well done! I didn't realize the harp could get this far into jazz territory.
love the lighting on this one
I don't think people typically consider the harp as versatile but Amy keeps showing that it absolutely is! Also...1:54 - 2:27 - best part! :D
Amen... Creation is best music in this world!
Your style, skill, and grace never cease to amaze me.
GIRL...You done it !!! I'm from Detroit, 74 years old. Awesome ! Much Thanks.
For such an accomplished harpist, playing this simple melody must be a piece of cake.
It's cool how you're able to flick strings and snap your fingers at the same time! Keep up the good work!
I am an old man. The movie "Stand By Me" takes me back to when I was a kid. The events in the movie never occurred to me...not exactly. But it represents my childhood.
I danced to my husband the night of our wedding to this beautiful song. Thanks for bringing such fond memories back. You’re amazing!
Amy’s performances touch your soul. Bless her. ✊✊✊
I'm slowly melting...
This feels like poetry on strings🥰🥰🥰
I will never forget this particular arrangement. Absolutely beautiful!
Chapeau !! J'ai joué la harpe pendant quelques années quand j'étais enfant... il y a maintenant 60 ans (j'avais 5 ans quand j'ai commencé) et il me fait toujours plaisir quand je l'écoute. J'ai adoré votre jeu. Merci.
You even snap your fingers better than any mortal! Such impressive talent! Your covers are always so amazing!
Gilberto M. Morales De León Thanks! Not as well as MJ but I'm still practising!
Much love from south korea. Very good.
So amazing.
Woooww!! No words. Fantastic, wonderful!!🤩🥰 Thank you so much for this beautiful performance, Amy!!🙏👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Love and peace for you, from Brazil! ☮️💙💜💚💛🇧🇷
Great job, the whole project clearly took a lot of time.
信じられないほど、素晴らしいと思います!✨💗😊このフィンガースナップの美しさと、そしてそれを、ハープで弾いているのが、とても感動しました!!✨😊💫💗
Those haters who pushed thumbs down are only jealous because they have no talents such as this to share with the world... You have an amazing future ahead of you!!!
This is too beautiful for words. But here are some nonetheless.
Very cool is the combination of bass, melody and snapping with your fingers.
I think that this harp cover is better than original song. Really!!
Wouahhh Amy you are really incredible.... Personally I would never attended such a passion.... I am 2 years study the harp but really active... An whe I see you , your originality. . This is really what I dream of....
Thanks for watching! Just do you and your path will appear, originality is about being true to what you really enjoy about life. I studied classical music and hated it, there are so many things I owe that path of study, technique, work ethic, and I met great people, but playing a wider range of styles is really my passion. I had to be honest about that before I really found a path I wanted to walk.
snapping gives it a "time of the seasons" feel.
Beautiful and mesmerizing ❤
I stumbled across Amy doing a cover of Happy by Pharrell Williams ,and thought wow ! Brilliant, love the use of hand strikes to emulate the drum sounds ,that's unique as far as I'm aware ,but then tbf iv not really listened to Harp music much .
Hence why I'm here checking out the rest of her work .Bravo .
Being as I used to play drums many years ago (Although I haven't played for decades now ) I am a tapper ,I have a habit of tapping drum beats all the time lol .on my knees ,steering wheel of the car , kitchen counter ,you name it lol ..😂👍😁🎶
Beautiful shadowplay and interpretation! Thanks
Was für eine Begabung...Unglaublich und wunderschön 🌻
What I love about harps is that they combine all the defining features and range of all non bowed string instruments with that of a piano.
It's amazing what a single person can do with a harp.
No matter how long I studyed the Harp I'd never be able to play this. I can't snap 😭
Chresolaくれそら Atsusunoアツスノ you could always knock on the harp for a similar effect
I got the snapping down. I'm half way there!
If it makes you feel any better, I can't whistle!
*+Amy Turk* So I guess you just use Uber a lot instead then?
I also guess that means you won't be doing a version of _The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air_ any time soon either...
(...I whistled for a cab, and when it came near...)
Amy Turk nether can I 😭
Wow Amy. You are a Godsend. Beautiful. Just beautifully played. Ben E. King would be so proud!
I loved that song since I was young when the old film came out a long time ago, you did a great version of it, thanks for sharing all your music it's so relaxing, I'm Irish so harp music resonates in my blood,
This is gorgeous! The finger snapping is so engaging!!
Abso-frikkin-lutely amazing! Thank you! I love the way you did this in shadow! Also loved watching the lower strings vibrate against the light background!
If I close my eyes, you bring my mind to a time of huge temples and large columns and a calm pool of water, just a sense of heaven on Earth ❤️
Beautiful arrangement of a great, classic song. Thank you Amy.
That snapping is really impressive, both the consistency in how crisp the snaps are, and just... My palm would hurt very quickly if I did that myself I think haha! I was convinced you put two videos together in post until I heard the pitch changes!
This lady truly has a God given talent.
God didn't give her shit. She worked for it, she wasn't handed it by a mystic being in the sky.
I usually don't like this song. I find it maudlin and overplayed. When I saw the title I thought I would just skip it but as one of your internet fans I went ahead and gave it a chance.
I was pleasantly surprised how your tempo, phrasing and intensity brought something new to the piece that touched me.
That's a true artist who can take something common and make us hear it with new ears or see it with fresh eyes.
Thank-you so much for sharing your talent with us and producing these wonderfully visual videos that enhance the listening.
Totally get what you're saying - it is hard to put new life into something that's been played and played, and heard and heard. But I really think this song is timeless. So, if a song convinces you, it doesn't matter how many times it's been done before, because anyone can put themselves into it and make it new again. I never get tired of playing this. It's mine now.
Your ownership of it is what makes it work so well. You know there are wads of videos on here where people aren't doing that. Playing a heavy metal song on a ukulele, hip-hop on bagpipes, classical on a kazoo and so many more pairings of an instrument with a style it's not normally associated with. They are a vehicle for dexterity at best and a stunt for attention at worst. It would be so easy to look at your titles and say Oh, I've not heard that on a harp before, how clever. You aren't that. You aren't a harpist playing unusual pieces. You are an artist who's tool happens to be the harp and you use it to channel the passion and energy of the pieces you choose to the world. Again thank-you so much for sharing with us!
Thanks so much for watching
Big Smile ! Thank You Again !
I am pretty impressed with her ability to keep the rhythm and snapping going and still and and play so beautifully. Loved the cinematography as well.
You should watch her rendition of Toto's "Africa"
Cannot stop listening. Somehow this is something i sorely needed in my world right now. Thank you Amy. Truly beautiful.
So beautiful. As it was playing one of our cats almost entered a zen like state! XD really lovely, thank you.
This is the music for our soul! Love it!
I can't believe you snapped instead of adding a snap. That's dedication!
why anyone would watch the "satisfying video compilations" while this is so perfect that makes you fly by watching it already
Beautiful work/play - many decades ago I played organ in an R&B group - this was a staple of our songlist - in one particular club this song would be the whole set - 45 mins or more!! whenever we began to wind it down the dancers would hiss and groan and make it clear we were not stopping !! it is a wonderful feeling when your audience enjoys your performance as much as we enjoyed performing it - thanks for plucking the memories.
Thank you for your music, amy turk.
A woman and a harp. Pure sensuality.
so beautiful.....wowwww Love it!!
I like the effects

So nice I had to watch it twice. Thanks Amy.😻
My lovely Dog loves this song.
I can't even tell you how much I adore this song, Amy, specifically the way you play it. I am going to buy your arrangement, and even if it takes me years, I'm going to learn how to play it. As a beginner-level harpist, I am so happy and thankful to hear this type of music played so well on a harp. Thank you for the music you choose to play.
Videos are continually getting better. Props.
Thank you so much and please more. You my soul and spirirt just tickled

My 7yo loves this, and she has never even heard the original. When I start playing Amy Turk, she asks me to play Stand By Me.
This is wonderful! I cant even snap my fingers at all, and the left hand is amazing. So beautiful! Thanks for the great music.

HAS COME
Beautiful
Beautiful thank you for lifting my soul with your gift.
Well how much fun was that?! Brilliant indeed. The silhouette videography was equally as "snappy" (Sorry, I couldn't resist that).
Quite innovative I must say. A winner for sure. Thank you.
You love your instrument:-)
Kudos to the person behind the knobs (I can hear your fingers rub during the attack)
Brilliant
