  • Olele, Moin-moin or moi-moi is a steamed or boiled bean pudding made from a mixture of washed and peeled beans and onions, fresh red peppers, spices, and often fish, eggs, and/or crayfish. It is a protein-rich Yoruba food that is commonly eaten across Yorubaland and close regions in West Africa. I'm in Gambia and they also have their special way of preparing the aazing snack

In Cameroon, we refer to it as "Koki." It's prepared without vegetables or proteins, using only salt, pepper, palm oil, and a special technique to achieve its fluffy texture. We steam it in banana leave to give it an amazing flavor. It's a fantastic dish, and I appreciate you sharing Olele the Gambia version, reinforcing the idea that we're all interconnected.

Garden eggs in moimoi, Lord have mercy. I guess that is the Gambian way, never in Nigeria.

MoinMoin originated from the Yorubas in Nigeria, we also call on Oole, which is similar to what you called it.

same principle, different ingredients in tamales in Latin America. Made of corn and steamed the same way in banana or corn leaves.
