Took this to list (slightly modified) my LGS tonight. First game of magic I played since the pandemic. I won, thanks Mons for the video. I never thought of Marwyn till I saw this video. thanks again!
Cool video, concise, to the point, nice over view of the deck. I have the big dino Ghalta for mono green but it doesn't work that well with 3 other players, might try this out. Elf city! 😀
Loved seeing how they as the players compare and contrast the differences between what on its face looks like very similar decks in Yisan,Selvala and Marwyn. Thanks again for the series mons!
I play in a meta of people winning in other's end steps with thrasios activations or ad naus so I've been liking Hermit of the Natternolls in my Marwyn deck to potentially draw into answers. Edit: I just thought I'd clarify, by answers I mean to draw into one of your many wincons or into Lifeforce (if ad naus) / bind (if thrasios/yisan/5c Sisay/ cap sisay/ etc...)
Marwyn is my newest deck and it is so much fun to play. There have been games where I just bait out all of my opponents' answers before I go for an infinite damage finish
So happy to see Marwyn getting some love! I've been playing her since she came out and was always shocked how fast it was, then I decided to start beefing the deck up and got gross. I sat down at a cEdh table someone casted silence on my third turn upkeep, I ended up casting my deck before I let silence resolve.
I love this. Marwyn gives you the potential speed of Selvala with the adaptability of Yisan. Mono green has a lot of depth and the ability to pivot really is the best part of this deck. You get to play selvala with a better card quality and Yisan that doesn't need to tutor. And the budget options!
I have been seeing Marwyn pretty regular now on the spell table games and it goes off, you can get rid of her but mono greens ramp is so crazy she can just be recast over and over.
I've been a consistent advocate of Marwyn since she came out. It's funny to say Marwyn might be one of my most competitive decks, even over stuff with oracle and other tier 1 win conditions. Sometimes you demonstrate a loop and someone says, "Okay, but do you have anything to _do_ with your mana?" Yeah, punch you in the face for 50. Or you just play a value ballista and keep fragile creatures off the board while attacking with it. And since there are 4 other elves (not counting selvala) that work like marwyn, you have great redundancy. Also with a single color, it's easier (ie: cheaper) to push to a higher power level over 5 color mana bases or anything blue.
@@cedhtv It's a dilemma for your opponents, because removing Marwyn is usually correct, but only temporary because of the redundancy available and the fact that as an elf deck, you can probably play her again. Therefore, is will seem correct to destroy the outlets (Staff of Domination, Temur Sabertooth, etc). But in that case, Marwyn just pivots to combat. Without something like Plague Engineer, you can't stop Marwyn.
I've been playing Marwyn Elfball in brawl (on Arena) before it rotated, and I fully believe that a tuned deck like that would reach competitive power level, even without watching the video. Though I feel like the lists you linked lack wincons. I think there should be some sort of repeatable, more reliable mana sink. Maybe a Walking Ballista or something that allows you to go for a direct kill with infinite mana.
Pretty fun deck! As feedback for you mons, you did this in the past, but something you should focus on more in these introductions/interviews is what the deck has issues with. What are hard pods, are there specific predators can you adapt to (in-game, flex cards?) To me, these are the much more interesting things, for the win cons I can read the primer or just look at the decklists :D It seems to me that turbo-naus is a neck breaker for this deck and needs an answer in the pod (which is likely) since this deck seems to play a bit like a ship in the night.
Yeah I did that in the past a bunch. They kinda meantion a lot of different weakness during the video here and there so I actually skipped the question this time.
That is a great thing to have. As I am playing a lot of Sisay. She never really gets left behind anymore. I think the biggest problem with sisay is that she becomes the target.
I play Marwyn since the day she came out and she's crazy, even if I'm not playing the most optimal build. 70-80€ is just a bit too much for a single Allosaurus Shepherd in my eyes. I can wait til they reprint it.
I been playing my own cedh version of marwyn for a few years now, it can consistently win by turn 3-4 and if I'm lucky it can win on turn 1-2. The deck never works at my lgs anymore because I get targeted so heavily now haha.
@@brandonluton6973 i don't recommend my version at all btw unless you like to mulligan a lot haha, but it's a good way to sneak in a quick win to the unknowing.
I personnaly only play casual commander with my friends. But i'm playing Magic for 17 years and we play with no mercy. And i really like elves ! I actually own 13 EDH deck and my marwin deck is my golden baby. Tribal focussed, very fast to play. If nobody try to stop you it's easy to win turn 4 or 5 on a regular, viable basis. If everything goes perfectly i can win on turn 3. Playing my whole deck and trampling for billions of damage. The thing is that i don't play Cedh Im only playing casual (but still nasty) commander with friend. And the deck cost me more than my average but it was not more than 600$. No mana crypt, no geass cradle, not one fetch lands, and it can win turn 3... Just imagine if i could add those crazy card into it how far it would go ... All you have to do is putting lots of "untap" abillities, lots of "draw card equal to the greatest power amongs creature you control" and stuff like that. And you can go off like crazy as soon as marwyn hit the table if you put a bit of haste enchantments, artifact and stuff like that in the deck. It is SOOO easy to go off and ending up playing your ntire deck that most of the times people will stop playing in the middle of your turn because they know you will just shit your entire deck on the table xD I play this deck regularly again Krenko, mob boss to do an interesting elves vs goblin edh fight and marwyn tends to win around 60% of the time from what i've seen but i have put less effort and dedication in the making of krenko so i dont know for the overall meta. What i can tell is that marwyn is indeep a VERY strong commander 100% as good as selvala is. They both have their goods and bads but i really like to play elves tribal so i went for marwyn and it works very well. Would recommand to anybody who would likes to play elvish tribal in commander.
Hi, would you have a decklist to share for your Elves Deck? I also only play casual and am really interested in how you have built the deck you described.
Hey Mons love all your content, I have been trying very hard to make a Kamahl Fist of Krosa as competitive as possible. I wanted to pick your brain if you feel he can reach a playable state in a CEDH setting ? I feel like the answer is probably no, but was hoping to hear from you on this manner.
for cEDH it is not really possible. He dose go into some decks tho. But it is posssible to make him really good. Like get his power level to lets say. High power.
@@cedhtv Thanks so much for the reply, I will continuing refining as much as I can, combat damage is a difficult way to win for sure. He's been my fav character since I got into the game.

this so called boardwipe protection of allo shepherd and ezuri counts on your opponents missing an on-board-trick. Not very convincing. It also sounds to me like marwyns biggest advantage over selvala is the long game through stax. However ashaya seems to be a better pick for these stages of the game, while fast wins are still archieveable through quirion ranger (which can be tutored easier than staff of domination) How to you compare favorably against ashaya ? How does the turn 2 win look like ?

@@harleym.3810 ok, let's agree on the board wipe protection bring fringe. As you say, it's a boardwipe-light meta. And how do you compare your deck to ashaya lists running around ? I am looking at picking up a mono green deck
I think ashaya is really cool list and completely viable as well. Think of mono green as like a triangle. You have the mana producer, the combo pieces and then the outlet on each piece of the triangle. So for marwyn she is the producer that uses multiple combos to then feed an outlet. Ashaya is the combo in the triangle so she operates from that point of view. My biggest deal against her is that she costs 5 and is harder to get out and is also a big target. It’s also easier to see the pieces that combo with her. So people are generally ready to interact before you go off. Marwyn skates by as just a mana dork until you drop the combo and win same turn. Hope that’s helpful. Ashaya has a great discord with great people in it. Should check it out if you haven’t!
Cards like invigorate are used to pump up marwyn’s power so she can be tapped to make more mana. So invigorate costs zero if you control a forest but let’s you tap for 4 more and if you have a draw spell based off of power it’ll let you draw 4 more (cards like soul’s majesty)
Ashaya is the new Mono-Green boss. Much more resilient and consistent. Marwyn has had her time in the spotlight. Shes still good, but Ashaya is better. Ashaya > Yeva > Yissan > Selvala > Marwyn
