Right now it just pisses me off he knows what's in the briefcase the actors know but I'm suppose to guess fuck that. I’ve heard theories saying they’re the diamonds from the heist in Reservoir Dogs, since Marcellus’ name was mentioned in Reservoir Dogs as essentially their normal boss but he was in prison at the time.
The earliest theory I ever heard in like '96 was that it is the gold suit that was worn by the imaginary Elvis from True Romance. And fwiw, Marcellus has a different last name in each film, Spivey and Wallace. And Joe had no boss, and diamonds are not gold.
@@ItsAllBallBearings A lot believe the difference is Marcellus wanted to change his last name after getting out of prison to not alert certain entities to his existence & to still exist. Joe mentions about Marcellus usually moving his diamonds but Mr. White tells him he’s in jail in Susanville.
The shining seems to be more meant to be a “this is valuable” thing, than a “look it’s gold” way, since if you’re being realistic there would also be a light inside the case set to turn on every time someone opens it, which Roger Avary (who has a “story by” credit) said “somebody had the bright idea of putting an orange lightbulb in there, which I feel is a mistake, given they could think it’s supernatural or something else.” Avary also confirmed that throughout most of the stages of writing the screenplay, they were the diamonds. However they took the mention of diamonds out before the final draft to make the watcher wonder what it is.
Maybe it could be True Romance’s Elvis suit given the way Vincent responds to looking at it, given he’s an admitted Elvis fan.
I know a LOT of people thought it was Marcellus’ soul given the “666” needed to open the case, that it glowed, the thought that Marcellus made a deal with the devil for his soul in exchange for riches, & the cut on his head being where his soul was taken. Those are all huge leaps though.
That's interesting never heard that I always thought it's Marcellus w soul and that band aid on his neck is 666 or some kind of mark of beast
@@Trymr I like the Reservoir Dogs tie in. I like to believe it’s the Diamonds. There’s just a lot of tie ins to both movies like unofficial spin-offs to each other. I like the Vic and Vincent were brothers, to bad we never got a scene with the both of them even if it had to be a flashback or something. Would’ve loved to see a flashback of Vincent talking to Vic in prison and we just see Marcellus walk by in the background, ultimately tying the movies together even more.
@@Yo-uk1wb I've heard that too, which I thought was pretty cool. Interestingly enough, that band aid wasn't a specific choice by Tarantino.... Ving Rhames has a bad scar on the back of his neck and wanted to cover it up once he realized how Tarantino would be shooting that scene, so he slapped the band aid on there.
This is why I think that video games are art. Your experience playing the game will never be the same as another’s experience; that makes it your game.

Tarantino taught me that as long as I know the character, I don't need to write his life story introducing him. His introduction and later actions are what do that.

Maybe simplistic but I think the briefcase was filled w/a shipment of polished stones from Israel.
@@CintekzCollectiblesinteresting theory from me about it being the diamonds from RD- Quentin originally wanted Michael madsen to reprise his role as Vic Vega but he couldn’t because of scheduling, so he made travolta his brother. So I’ve always wondered if it really was the diamonds because everyone else is mesmerized but Vincent’s reaction really does seem like a sociopath looking at the diamonds that basically got his brother killed. He’s in shock at first then subtly excited. Because yes whatever the contents are they’re very valuable & I remember in RD they said the stones were worth over 2 million just for a small briefcase worth
Dammit he is such a brilliant filmmaker, I love how much he cares about his audience having a good time.

Yeah, they were pretty good. Even though, I would always just mark my place, flip back, and read both.
What I like about this approach to it is it mimics the effect a reader has when the conceptualize how something looks in their heads. It’s that way to activate the imagination enough to fill in for what’s missing and makes the audience part of the creation. He understands that idea really well.
He summed up what I love and champion about film to people who take them for granted. Everyone walks away from a film with a unique psychological experience
This is what art should be. Many directors want to push a specific agenda and put certain ideas into the audience’s heads. Quentin knows that his job as a creator isn’t to tell people what to think but to ask questions that viewers will consider and come to their own conclusions.
Crazy how much thought is put into something that’s never mentioned or a big part of a film. Absolute GOAT

My brother told me that he hates Nirvana because Nirvana just sings about random stuff that doesn't make any sense and I told him that it's not supposed to make sense because it's your job to determine what it's about and add your own value to it and that's what makes it valuable art.
When I paint something I never tell people what it is because I want them to come to their own conclusion because I feel like it gives my painting more value and when I compare myself to other artists I often look for that same trait in them and that's why I think so highly of this director.
That's why I like art. Each artwork I see has its own meaning to me. Same with books. No one else will imagine the same thing I did when I read it.
wait a minute, if people don't have a general idea of what you have painted, HOW is that "art"? if i put a blob of red paint on a blank white canvass, that doesn't make it some transcendent statement about "humanity", it just means I'm talentless AND pompous. or do you mean you paint 4 people in a car, and its up to the viewer to decide what they're up to?
My cousin told me the same thing once. He said Kurt’s lyrics are all gibberish to him. I couldn’t believe what he said because to me the words from the songs meant something and told a story to me. I guess some people interpret things differently in their own way and that’s fine.
Aldo’s rope burn happened during an impromptu limbo competition at a carnival. Aldo, fueled by an inexplicable burst of enthusiasm, attempted an audacious backflip under the limbo stick. Unbeknownst to him, a clown decided to replace the limbo stick with a hastily tied rope. Aldo's ambitious acrobatics resulted in an unexpected neck-high encounter with the disguised rope, leaving him with a hilarious rope burn that became the talk of the carnival for years to come.
This is one of the reasons why I like Cinema so much. You can interpret and make your own stories. I have such conversations with my father on our interpretation of a certain film, its really fun and also let's us be the writer in some way
So great! I love that! He is one of my favorites of all time. Also bringing out the best in his actors and having a specific vision for each character is one of his underrated brilliances. The depth of this guy is endless. Those details and the intent behind them is just so cool. Truly in a league of his own.
This is why he is a Film Genius and churns out Masterpieces like they are nothing. Such a brilliant mind. Love Tarantino's works.
I always assumed it was the movie itself that’s in the briefcase.
Tarantino is a post modernist filmmaker;
he’s deconstructing genres and reusing tropes in different ways. So much so that the writer’s hand calls attention to itself, or in other words, the movie knows it’s a movie.
Before Jules and Vincent enter the apartment in the beginning, they walk away and have a side bar at the end of the hallway because they’re ahead of schedule - almost as if they know they aren’t ahead of their character’s schedule, but the movie’s schedule.
When they finish up their discussion about the meaning of a foot massage, Jules says, “Ok let’s get into character.” When he says that, it’s like the characters had stepped out of the movie for a moment to just have a normal conversation between themselves- it’s like as viewers we weren’t even supposed to see it, the movie should have cut away, but didn’t.
So with all of that being said, the briefcase is just a representation of a trope: the thing Tarantino is playing around with, and the thing the main characters have to recover in order to kick start the movie.
Therefore, it’s the film itself that’s in the briefcase, because without the motivation of going after the briefcase, there would cease to be a an inciting incident to kick off Jules and Vincent’s story, and therefore no movie.
It’s the inciting incident, the thing that’s holding the movie together, that’s in the briefcase. That’s why the characters care about it so much, because without it they wouldn’t exist.
