Something interesting I just noticed about this song is that you can see Sunset Shimmer’s progression in becoming part of the team. When the WonderColts sing, she’s the only person singing outside of the harmony, clearly showing how she’s not quite meshed into the group yet and is just trying to show her power to win against the ShadowBolts because of the imminent threat they seem to be. Yet by the end of the games, she’s the saving grace and truly becomes part of the team, which is much more human and showing an earned right to work with them through trust. Contrastingly, when the ShadowBolts sing, they’re fully harmonised the whole time, showing how they have almost been programmed into their own specific roles in the team, showing a togetherness that is only there to win. It seems to also be a showcase of power in that they are perfectly co-ordinated (too perfectly). The games are more like a work task that people have been assigned to rather than anything based on relations and compassion.
2:10 I m guessing this verse is a more early version before the finalized movie. which could explain why Sunset says “and before these games are over” in the finalized movie. This early verse was mostly like kept in before they finalized the movie.
